Despite the clickbaity appearance, this video doesn't rely on sensationalism. It's nicely done & tells the story without the tabloid style that surrounded the trial & is still popular on social media.
The young man telling the story, I think I recognize his voice from a totally difference kind of videos regarding famous graves. Which I enjoy very much.
Such a terrible mother. Wow.
She wasn't a terrible mother at all. She did what all Socialites including the Vanderbilts did. Laura was also an absentee mother, I mean she let her twins live in New York alone at 17, the only reason she sided with the Vanderbilts was because she wanted the trust fund. Later on she threatened to do the same thing with Thelma's kid. I feel sorry for Gloria Morgan. She didn't have the money the vanderbilt's did, so she had worse lawyers and came off looking terrible. And what happened to little Gloria after the trial? She was sent to boarding school, and was not allowed to see Dodo anymore. So what exactly did the little girl win?
The Biltmore house is really something to see. If you ever get a chance to visit. 🎉
Reginald Claypoole Vanderbilt was 42 years old when he married 18 year old Gloria Morgan. He looks about 57 years old by today's standards. Most people look better than their pictures so Gloria was probably very beautiful in person. Men were mesmerized by her and her twin.
Yuck!
I still buy the Gloria Vanderbilt jeans, they're a perfect fit for me and the price is right too.
Very true.
Apparently all that glitters isn’t necessarily gold, is it? 🤷🏻♂️
Gloria was also grand high priestess. I don't know who was more intimidating Marina Abramovic or Gloria. Anderson's brother jumped out of a window to his death.
Hollyweird 👁️
Gloria (jr) said the love of her life was...gulp...her mother. She was also wanted to bear her son's designer baby in her womb when she was in her 70s/80s...what a twisted family
The super-rich have nothing to do with Hollywood. What are you on about?
@@LabriniToukas
Satanic sacrifice….not a real suicide! Wake up time. NOW.
Yup Luciferian. Generational evil af
The story of Gloria Sr. is sad. A great beauty, groomed by her family to be sold to a rich drunk so she could support them. That's how they raised her. Everyone seems to have wanted to punish her. Age-old "female guilt" by people jealous of her. And she was punished . This was bound to exact a toll on any child. Gloria Sr. was not the arch-villain. The money-hungry people around her were. I'm glad Little Gloria turned out to be such an accomplished woman.
You assume money gives you morals.
My Dad had told me about this story - it was BIG news at that time. Gloria was exploited by everyone who knew her, but she turned out ok. She still had LOTS of money & tried her hand at acting & other artistic areas. She had TWO sons & tragically one committed suicide. She survived it all until she died in her old age, lived a luxurious life and had her son Anderson by her side.
Her son is Kathy Griffith
Gloria four sons. The two oldest were by symphony conductor Leopold Stokowsky. He was old enough to be her father. Then she had two sons by Wyatt Cooper. One of Coopers' son committed suicide by jumping from a window as his mother pleaded with him not to jump.
@@mariecait🙄
Turned out okay? 😂😂😂😂
Gloria was a sicko
Her sons are too
Her son didn’t suicide. He pretends he’s a woman now. Anderson likes men only.
I've read a lot about the Vanderbilt family, but this video compressed & DELIVERED all the smutt very nicely! Thank You 👍🤗✌️
Glad you enjoyed it!
I agree with one exception. I've read that Gertrude Whitney was allegedly known in her artists circle of friends for being a lesbian which is what she accused Gloria of in court.
🤔 How was New York "nearly destroyed" by a socialite? You left that part out.
Click bait. There was some rivalry/competition between, Alva Vanderbilt and Caroline Astor who was the "Queen" of the "400" wealthy aristocratic families back in the "Gilded Age" of the mid 19th century in NYC. Alva toppled Caroline from her "Queen" status. No real "destruction" per say, just a big change in the high society of the time. Interesting story in it's self. Alva was pretty interesting too.
@zsigzsag Thanks, I've heard that story about how the "undesirable" Vanderbilts gate crashed the social scene much to the Astors horror. I guess that meant something to the social set, but New York City as an entity remained in tact. 🙄 Socialites and their fans think a bit too much of their importance!
Even after losing custody of her daughter, Morgan Vanderbilt was given an allowance of $20,000 a month. That's $358,000 today. And she wanted more. What an atrocious mother.
Gloria was left nothing by her late husband! Little Gloria's trust was all that was left of Reginald Vanderbilt's $25 million fortune, he gambled it away.
He had his reasons for not leaving her anything.
@@williamegler8771 Yeah, she would have spent it all in a year!
It sounds as though she lived a pretty good life. Is it just me, or was she not the best dresser? Some of those outfits. Yikes. And marrying Royalty was often expensive. They were generally looking for a bankroll...not offering one.
No, her clothes are quite chic for the time.
That was absolutely the style back then.
The marriages usually didn't last long between Wealthy American Society Elites and Poor European Royalty. Royalty was looking for easy living and easy money that would translate into being on the payroll for the rest of their lives after they were married for a short time. They may have been well-educated but they didn't want to have to work for a living. These were Trust Fund People.
Nearly destroyed New York?? 🙄🙄
Many people don't realize that Gloria's son is news anchor Anderson Cooper. Gloria was a great clothing designer.
Many people also don't realize that after she made millions from her designer jeans in the 70's she lost her fashion empire in the 80's and in the 90's sued her lawyer and psychiatrist claiming they stole millions of dollars from her and had sold off her business interests without her permission. She won the case but only got $1.7M.
Thanks again ❤😊
So many inaccuracies, it's hard to count them all. Gloria Jr.'s money came from her grandfather in a trust for both of Reggie's kids. She would receive half of the trust when she turned 21. The trust was 5 million, her older sister got 2.5 when she turned 21 and Gloria would receive her half 20 years later. Gloria Morgan received a small portion of Little Gloria's trust which would grow to 4 Million when she was 21. This is just one of the inaccuracies in this hit piece.
Thank you. That was interesting.
Thank You.
I'm a distant cousin of her's. You can pick your friends . . .
They owe you money.
@@bcsurvivor4713 Na, they spent it all
@@justanamerican9024sounds about right
That $4k a month in 1924 would be close to $75k per MONTH in 2024!!! Before you feel too sorry for the wayward mother, in the 1920's $21,000 per year would be equal to over $385,000 a year now. Not exactly dirt poor either!
hello , great share ..........thank you , for sharing🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰............
I just found it confusing. 😕
The name Mercedes was undoubtedly given in honor of the Virgin Mary, derived from Our Lady of Mercy. Also, Thelma pronounced her name in the Spanish fashion as Telma, with a slight long a sound to the e. Both sisters had some Latin American ancestry through their mother
I liked Gloria Vanderbilt, used to like Anderson, but not a big fan of him now. However, he did seem to love and respect his mother.
Nice story…..where’s my favourite narrator
I, personally, can do without expensive jeans and Anderson Cooper. Especially Anderson Cooper. Yes. I admit it. I am biased when it comes to anyone on CNN. I'm not a fan. Despite my biases, I did enjoy this video.
I liked Gloria's jeans, they always fit well on me and were never that expensive, compared to JAG and some of the other top brands. Can't stand CNN tho, and some of the other false news channels. Not impressed with Cooper either.
Anderson is disgusting. His brother is also, pretending he’s a woman (he pretends he died also)
Mercedes is "Our Lady of Mercy."
the word vandervilt is mentioned 473 times in the video
I liked her jeans they also weren't as expensive as others.
Why referring to Mrs. Vanderbilt as Morgan Vanderbilt? Very strange.
To differentiate between the mother, Gloria Morgan (maiden name) Vanderbilt, and her daughter, Gloria Vanderbilt.
Miss Nightingale’s School was not a “college.” There was no college education at that institution.😊
I've always assumed "finishing schools" meant how to marry well.
that kid hd a fancy, spoiled life and that was not good enough ??? she has to conspire against her own mother. greedy little thing. and that intriguing nanny !!! $$$ signs in her eyes for sure !!!
Question (unrelated to this video): in 1981 Romy Schneider’s son David died through a tragic accident. Some photographer took (or payed someone to take) pictures of the deceased boy in the hospital. No french outlet bought the pics but Bild (germany) did and placed the pics in their next issue. I want to know if the name of the person that took/ sold the pics is known. Mybe a topic for a video?
More interesting would be finding those photos taken of Princess Diana as she was dying in that automobile. Somebody has them.
@@marionmarino1616 I don’t want to see the pics. Iwanna know who took them and sold them. I sure as h don’t needto see Diana dying.
@@noeraldinkabam Like everything else appearing in print, it’s up to the viewer to decide what he finds interesting. Right at the beginning it was known photos were taken, wherever they are they will probably be released eventually.
Moragan's allowance from her daughter adds up to $376,000 in 2024. That seems like quite a bit of money, especially for doing nothing!
Count how many times the narrator says, "Morgan Vanderbilt!" I had to stop at six minutes
Please.
"Permission" is not how I'd describe her father handing his teenage daughter to a rich old drunken man.
Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney scarcely led a 'staid' life. Do your research!
Her name is Gloria Morgan Vanderbilt
Only if u use maiden name as middle name
Chauvinist and archaic
I can do without Anderson Vanderbilt. He’s such a crab.
Gloria Vanderbilt the child, certainly didn’t look like she would be a fashionista model.
Why the repeated references to Morgan Vanderbilt when recounting her life before marriage?? Very irritating. She was Gloria Morgan until 1923. Following her marriage, she became Gloria Vanderbilt ffs.
😁
I really wanted to watch this but hearing Gloria Morgan Vanderbilt over and over was too annoying.
Use better narrators!😢
The endless and unnecessary repetition of her full name at every given opportunity was grating. And ultimately too distracting. I could not finish.
So Many factual inaccuracies. Gloria had no problem with her daughter marrying 'the gangster'. She even held a reception for them. Her problem and their relationship broke down when she wanted to marry Stokowski. But anyway, you are trying so fair enough, and you do produce a lot of videos. So it seems you want quantity over quality. I suggest though that people don't look at these as real history but a bit of fun.
This story is absolute bullshit… Nothing in it is true and Gloria Vanderbilt middle name is Laura not Morgan
Surely the narrator’s writer could do a better job…the amount of times he repetitively said “Gloria Vanderbilt” was incredibly annoying. It’s uninspired and shoddy writing and detracts greatly from the story being told.
They repeat her name to differentiate between the mother Gloria Morgan Vanderbilt (Sr) and the daughter Gloria Vanderbilt (Jr).
@@Colorbrush21 yes, I know this but I still think they could have done it differently so it wasn’t so repetitive - there are ways.
Okay, I understand. Maybe they could have said Gloria Sr (mom) and Gloria Jr. (Daughter).
@@Colorbrush21 that would have been better, yes
Great great aunt ..sad but remember parents talking about ..shes a decenent of Bond and Aster ...Anderson is my fourth and third cousin ..😮he looks like my youngest brother same eyes 😮
Gloria had a crush on my dad they hung out during college days..dad attended Princeton. .I had an aunt and uncle teach there as well..
Basically her inheritance is a nice house or farm these days...
Merci bueo qu ..tribien ...je te ador ..thank you ..enjoyed
Don’t think Gloria Vanderbilt was a very nice person either. She kind of really screwed over a lot of people on her way up climbing over them even with all her money.
Satanist dear.
