    Maybe with time I’ll come to appreciate the nicks and scuffs , perhaps it’s part of the journey.
    Also not a fan of the looks of loose grain. That likely could change.
    I like the more reddish Indy boots. The vibergs also look extra special in my eyes.
    Own no boots with that leather yet. You convinced me to find a pair soon

      Daniel James that’s awesome!! Yessir Chromexcel in general is known for taking on a lot of character really quickly. That’s what some people love about it! And yes a lot of people are not fans of the loose grain. It’s not something I would have even noticed had people not pointed it out to me lol

      Chromexcel has a very tight grain. It is polished down at the tannery.

    Essex is a vegetable tannage where as Chromexcel is a combination tannage. It has barely any pull up compared to Chromexcel.

    • @nathandkreosote9917
      @nathandkreosote9917 Před 2 lety

      Essex has no pull up, it isn't hot stuffed or glazed. I'm not sure how he describes himself as a "horween freak" if he doesn't know essex and chromexcel are different tannages.

    Q: how does that the Viberg 2030 last compare to the Grant Stone Leo last in terms of width, height and overall volume?

    • @DalesLeatherworks
      @DalesLeatherworks  Před 7 měsíci +1

      I think technically they are the same, but I find the Grantstone’s fitting a hair smaller than the 2030

    Is it that the browns come out different or company’s call their different shades of brown Chromexcel “brown”. I have swatches of Chromexcel and Cavalier from Horween and there are multiple colors that could pass as brown...Questions only boot collectors colors think about lol

    • @DalesLeatherworks
      @DalesLeatherworks  Před 4 lety +1

      Francisco Rogel good question! Sometimes companies decide to give the leather a unique name. I know Grantstone calls this color “crimson.” I think J Crew refers to brown CXL as “dark raisin” and they call tan calfskin “tobacco” even though other companies just use the traditional name for the leather

    Oh wow! I just looked up the vibergs & now I know I'll probably never be owning a pair of those lol
    $1200+ Australian $s
    But on a good note I've decided I'm buying a pair of Grant Stone Diesels and I really like the colour of the ones you show on this video. Can I ask what is the exact colour as on their website atm the only Browns are burgundy and #8 chomexcel which I think are a bit different to the ones shown here & are they limited edition or will they likely pop up again soon?
    Thanks so much for your videos, of all the CZcamsrs I've watched so far I find yours both informative and also showing boots that are close to my taste esp the fact you have many Truman and Grant Stone which are the 2 companies I've found myself leaning towards most even if the Truman are a little more expensive I find them more fashionable rather than being mostly about durability than Nick's/Whites which I see as similar brands. Cheers :)

    • @DalesLeatherworks
      @DalesLeatherworks  Před 2 lety

      Grant Stone refers to their brown Chromexcel as “Crimson” Chromexcel which I feel is a far better name for it than brown! They have plenty of options of those on their website! And thanks so much for your kind words we are kindred spirits🙏🙏🙏

    Essex is not close to chromexcel. Essex is a full veg tan leather. Chromexcel is chrome tan then re tanned in veg formula. Essex is the same as dublin but dublin has wax added.

    • @DalesLeatherworks
      @DalesLeatherworks  Před 3 lety

      this is true! i guess i meant they're similar in that they can both be bovine hides and they're both from horween and undergo similar but not exact tannage processes
