Expert Taqueros Hit Downtown LA's Best Restaurants - Chef's Night Out

- It’s not often that the father-son team behind some of LA’s favorite tacos gets a night out together for good ol’ family bonding. So when Armando De La Torre-Senior and Junior-take us on a food tour of Downtown LA and Boyle Heights, they hit all their favorites, new and old.
We start the night at Bestia with rhum agricole daiquiris and dry Szamorodni bone marrow luges before heading to an old-school Mexican diner in Boyle Heights called Manuel’s Original El Tepeyac Café. The crew puts down a five-pound burrito filled with chile verde, rice, beans, guacamole, and oodles of cheese. We close out the night with cervezas and Morrissey karaoke at Eastside Luv before heading back to Guisados’ Downtown LA location for a mountain of carnitas ropa vieja tacos and chorizo quesadillas. Órale.

Justin Hollis Yes...just the right balance of funny and douche
There's something beautiful about a kid willingly taking on their parent's profession and seeking to improve it as well. Good ep
+Dom's Sketch Cast Yeah love it
They look and sound so Anglo and White. They blend in.
Arrrr Anglo not to bad but maybe another 10 years quick trip to stratford upon avon then sort of anglo

And no fucking hipsters!

Yea, but like insecure semi-hipsters on the brink of full hipsterism.
+AE OE hahahaha
+AE OE yeah anyone who sits down at a bar and orders octopus and bone marrow is way too fucking hipster for me
"Round is a shape." Lol I like these guys.
dude kept banging out the dad jokes
It is!!!! :D :)
"It just coats your mouth with this gelatinous, bone marrow-beef butter-flavor. It's just so good for you. It keeps me in shape...round is a shape!
When they left the first restaurant and the dad pretended the sports car was his I was dying
The father is fricken hilarious and so jolly ! Lost my mind when he told those people to move out of the way, as if it were his nice car , loved this episode
Haha "Alright guys get out of the way... just kidding that's not my car" so funny! Great episode!
haha i love the dad..."out of the way......n/m, we're in the minivan"
+j burggg total dad-style.. ;)
Uh they are American
Something so heartwarming about the relationship between them two. The banter, the mutual respect for each other but also the pedestal the son puts his father on and the pride and love the father has for his son.
His reaction at 6:10 after tasting the marrow is so primal. I love it.
This was a really cool episode. Interesting to see the father/son dynamic. Finally some real people and not them phony ass hipsters.
The son looks like a Mexican Steve-o. Cool dudes.
Dude just cracking dad jokes the whole video. Love it.
one of the best chef nights out... good job film and editing crew!!
It gets me in shape. Round is a shape!
Went to the downtown location. Got 3 steak tacos and 3 chicken ones. Delicious. Highly recommend
Living in LA is a blessing. Fucking thankful 🙌🏼
I imagine, everyone I've met that visited/lived has great things to say about it. I hope to visit one day :)
cristian jimenez where you from?

+dotPanem you'd be surprised. My friend goes fishing with his uncles often and says pretty much every lake is dried up like crazy
+dotPanem thanks my dude
this ep is really nice. dad-son duo and they are very polite and not at all as douchy as some chefs are in these episodes. just wholesome content. lovely.
What a pair of likeable guys doing what they love together and making customers happy in the process.
The dad looks like a mobster from the sopranos
BillyPilgrim 😂
LOL!!!!!!
It all looked so good. I absolutely love true authentic slow cooked mexican cuisine.
The coolest hipsters ever!
Loved this episode, family style
Awe...thank you for this video...Boyle heights..Manuela special ...etc...great memories from my younger days ...
RIP Manny, we miss you. When ever I fly home to LA, this is the first place I go to eat straight from LAX. Then Tommy's Original for a double and then Philippe's for beef French doubled dipped. LA Original's I grew up on. Nothing beats the originals. LA has changed so much in the past 55 yrs this is all that is still the exact same for the most part "food places". Must mention a few others like El Cholo, Fat Burger, and way to many old great places are long gone.
I love these two, best wishes!
i lived in boyle heights almost my entire life and havent seen it before but soooo ready to try it! owners son is a cutie
You say that cuz you saw him on CZcams, but if he was trying to hit you up on your DM's I bet you wouldnt even say anything 😂
As a hungry and poor college kid I think I'd down that 5 pound burrito in a minute flat.
Same page on that
I'd order two, and eat until my stomach was the size of a tractor tire...
You'd eat ramen and be full shut up.
+Tacos Varios omg hahahaha
+Lauren G. I'm reading this as I am slowly, slowly, slowly... eating my ramen noodles :'(
ze struggle.
lmaoooo the corny Spanish dad jokes >>>>>>> man I miss my pops
My dad does the same, lol! His name is Efrain Sr....I’m Jr. 😳
juniors concords are pretty fresh. they were the first thing i noticed lol
Same
Was waiting for that comment
+Queen Elizabeth II what about shorties white air maxes at the end?
"your girlfriend is coming. is she your girlfriend?"
"SO.."
see that guy chug a beer, while working? thats how real men work...
Yep, the father/son vibe was real and cool. Nice guys. Thanks!
Jonathan Gold changed the lives of so many people by writing about what he loved and knew it was something special. That alone tells me these men are doing something special and unique. RIP
First heard about El Tepeyac from an episode of Man vs Food. Kinda sad to find out that the owner passed away recently.
+valdeaunia the first thing I thought when I saw the burrito , this would be a good Man vs Food episode
+BlackTop i dont know men its kinda small adam would have eaten that fast
American Sniper I agree... its kinda a bit small compared to any of his average take ons....but still tho...thats rice in there... im far from mexican but im south east asian so i know how rice can fill u up... hahaha
BlackTop yea rice does fill you up quick. Remember the grilled cheese one. I thinks thats how this one would end if he doesn't eat it quick
+BlackTop Actually, he lost that challenge, he couldn't do it.
I'm not even Mexican but... Mexican food is the best food.
larry89 southern food is the best
Yung Shad Beatz lmao to who only the south? Mexican food is world wide dumbo
Straight Left sensitive ass nigga.. to everybody
Yung Shad Beatz south food is only good once in a blue moon puss ass nigga

Father & son duo..awesome
great looking food plus retro 11s. thumps up
"It keeps me in shape." - "Round is a shape." Lmao
i really enjoyed this episode. what a good father-son relationship goals..
I wanted to say this a long time ago but for some reason i'm starting to notice that most most if not all the restaurants that have a munchies segment pretty much cover the same food culture/mentality with a little personal influences. New York munchies you got italian, asian & italian fusions, California - Latino, mexican and asian either standalone or mixed. South part of the USA is mostly BBQ or deep fried, North part of the USA is mostly fish and sea fruit. European munchies is pretty much influences from what is hot in the USA and sometimes genuine traditional food with a modern twist from the chef's country.
+IW4TCH True dat
+IW4TCH "European munchies is pretty much influences from what is hot in the USA"... r u kidding me now!!!!?
+IW4TCH so much more than that but not wrong lol
+IW4TCH it's called bomb ass food. try it you'll like it.
What else you gon eat nigga
I love guisados so much and I loved seeing the guys behind it have a great night out

I love Guisados! Nice to see these two out of the restaurant.
love the fact its father and son, they both have passion
I love this episode like I'll actually watch it more than once
Im ashamed to go to taco bell now...
u should be a shame for going to fast food places
+American Sniper but do you quickscope
+Obi Wan Cannoli You should be! I stopped going almost a year ago. There's are so many good taco places.. You just have to seek them out!
+Obi Wan Cannoli Unless its 1 am or later and you're drunk there's no reason to ever go to Taco Bell. Especially if you live in So Cal.
Bro, I'm Mexican and Taco Bell is fucking dope. Don't be ashamed, you don't go to Taco Bell for "authentic Mexican food" you go cause your hungry and the shit is cheap. You don't go to mcdonalds for grade a quality hamburgers, it's just cheap and good.
"Keeps me in shape, round is a shape"
This man is a blessing
i love the personalities of both these guys! wish i lived in the states so i could visit..
I wish I had that relationship with my dad.
Guisados is amazing. I'm from Southern California and have always lived in or very near Mexican neighborhoods with great taquerias. I first tried Guisados when I was living in East LA about 8 years ago. It had a kind of taqueria vibe but it was kicked up a notch. They weren't just trying to feed you, they were trying to do it at a different level where it was a taqueria but also offering interesting Mexican flavors you might not find at other places, something a bit different than your everyday taqueria. Don't get me wrong, the regular taquerias around LA can be amazing, this one though was a unique thing. 100% recommend it to locals and tourists alike.
I'm glad to say I have my own El Tepayac memories and stories.
Very impressed. I live in san diego, and HAVE to hit this place next time i go to LA. Congratulations to the father and son team.
Mouth watering magic! Amazing chef-work!
loving these guys
This is one of the best Munchies videos.
So I watched this video years ago. Then while i LA a local recommended “guisados” and now seeing this video again I’ve just realised its the place i went to. The tacos were brilliant

When he walked in the direction of the sports cars like that was his car. omg that’s such a Mexican dad thing to do. It reminded me of my dad jaja

love this show!
That Cheers reference made it that much better.
A man of few words but great quotes "What stays in Bestia stays there", "Yes round is a shape", "I'm the luge master", "It makes me look cool"
This was deliciously heartwarming ☺️
I'm from Australia and we don't have anything like this, but when I went to LA I went to their location in West Hollywood and bloody hell it was good!
Probably the coolest dad and an awesome owner in the world.
Father and son goals.
