Hi, I’m new to curly hair. I’ve never had curly hair in my life but two years ago I was diagnosed with cancer. After chemotherapy I was completely bald and my hair grew back curly. They call it chemo curls. I honestly hated it but watching your videos and using your techniques I have come to love my curls. Thank you so much for sharing!

I went full time curly a year ago and about 8 months in I thought it was fully returned and then suddenly it went even curlier.
There will be some not so cute stages but it’s worth the wait!

BTW, being a 3A or 3B doesn’t only involve the size of your curl pattern, it’s also texture. They say 3A has “street chalk-sized curls” but that is not always true, the curl sizes vary and, as you know, many people are not only one curl type throughout their entire head. The fact that when you comb your hair soaking wet and it looks straight tells you, you’re a 3A. Look at Mell from Manes By Mell. She is a 3B and her hair, soaking wet, still holds a curl pattern. Every 3B I know has this, and when their hair is dry, there is a coarser texture to it. Our 3A hair dries to a soft texture. That’s because the majority of 3As have fine individual strands. 3A is a very wide range of curl patterns. I suppose it was easier to make 3 levels for each of the 4 types, but there should be 3 levels of 3A alone! If you look at 1A, 1B and 1C, they have no curl, and are separated by texture and density. This is actually mostly true of the other 3 types, as well. Of course, this doesn’t mean there aren’t 3As with very thick hair, Mell’s sister, for example. They say curl pattern is as different as a fingerprint, so when André Walker developed the system he did the very best he could to classify it all and it is extremely helpful, but it’s only a guide. Many other things affect your hair including diet, stress levels, health, hormones, environmental issues, products, medication, etc. ♥️
Wow, this was super helpful! I thought 3A always had to be those big, wide curls, and was confused as my hair texture is 3A but the ringlets are nowhere near that size. Thank you, this cleared some stuff up (I’m a begginer at this!:😊
What always confused me, with my 3A hair is that everytime I cut my hair they take months even to restore a pattern or even hold the styling. I'm struggling so much rn

I’m not sure if it happens to everyone with curly hair, but whenever I cut my curly hair, it takes about 3-4 weeks for my curl pattern to get back to normal. I was curious to know if it happens to anyone else and surprisingly, it does and it’s called curl shock. Who would’ve thought 🙈 your hair looks beautiful as always and the curly pattern will return ☺️😍 lovely video as always 💖

Yess!! I completely agree with dry cutting. I prefer a wet cut but now all the hairdressers want to do a dry cut. Definitely agree with what you said and if your stylist is experienced in dry cutting then go for it. I had the worst experience last year getting a curly dry cut 🥴

Why is this so relatable?!! I’m looking into salons around me because I’m nearly 30 and have only been to a stylist once in my life lol and it resulted in my crying for a couple of days at home and at work over my hair 😂

This very helpful. I have 2c-3a curls and my hairstylist told me that i don’t have the right curly hair for a curly cut. (I talked to an actual curly hair stylist and she said otherwise 🙃 second opinions are awesome)

I just wanted to say why I now only get dry cuts. The hair all around the edges and primarily underneath my hair is way curlier than the hair on top at the crown. Imagine how much a 3B curl springs up when dry. Now imagine that same length of hair but it only springs up how much a 2C or 2B would spring up. If I let the stylist wet cut my hair, the curls on the bottom will spring up way more than the hair on top of them, creating a layer that, dry, is 3 to 5 inches shorter than the hair laying over it. No bueno! It absolutely must be cut dry and styled so that the next time I dry it, all the layers sit where they need to.

I was a hairdresser and it is a lot of work and pain in my arms but i can do it😆
Since covid they are over my bra strap so someone has to cut the ends below first😂 When i went to the salon they would first blow dry and straighten my hair before cutting it😣 i don’t like that and not needed imo, sure i have a lot and thick hair but if i can do it myself without than they can too
i had my big chop not so long ago so once i get my length back i’m so doing this (my hair is a triangle rn unfortunately 😭)
Heyyyy it's okay! I did my big chop by myself last May (quarantine haircut hahaha) and cut it straight across💀 but it wasn't that bad, my hair got really healthy over time and I got my layered cut in December :) I'm sure your curls will look gorgeous!!

Help please!!!!! Growing my curls has been a serious challenge. They bounce up so much my hair looks shoulder length when it’s actually at my mid back. I have fine 3a/b hair, I just don’t know how to get my curls to be as long as my hair is when straight. Any curl growth or hair loss help you can give would be great. I know food and internal health and stress is a big part of it, but how do you get your curls so long and healthy?
If you do watch Manes by Mell, then you know she does suggest cutting your hair both wet and/or dry.

Diffuse upside down :) this is how my hair started curling at the top. It's really difficult if you air dry your hair.

hey! ive been having trouble keeping my hair curly. ive got waves mixed in with my curly hair and that has confused me. im not sure if I have wavy hair or curly hair because it takes so much effort each morning to keep my hair curly. its curly in the front but not the back, does this mean I have wavy hair that im forcing into curls on accident?
My hair was completely curly when it was shorter than it is now, the longer it gets the more wavy its getting I also have mixed curls and wavy hair idk what it is lol

I wish I had her aunty as my hairdresser I got a cut recently and tried the dry cut. The worst experience ever!!! They messed up so bad that I am thinking not doing curly any more and just doing straight hair, I'm so embarrassed with how it looks😭😭just when I was embrassing my curls and had it so long
What I learned: Don't take out too much from the sides when cutting your own hair. This will kill your volume.
