To the unaware: The Mercedes S-Class (W221) rear seats do not fold down exposing access to the rear trunk. It can only be popped open with by the remote. There is no button inside the car.
That is definitely a major flaw in design. There should be an interior trunk release button and not be reliant on remote control. And at least one of the back seats should be able to fold down . If this luxy car manufacturer is trying to separate themselves from lower priced sedans this is not the way to do it!
What’s wild to me is that all vehicles have a manual trunk release somewhere. My 2005 sc430 is in the center console under the bottom tray incase the car batteries dead

That Lishi tool is $44 to $54, and $15 on sale. It's specific to the model of the car. It also decodes the lock so a key can be made without the original.
16 is +12v, 8 is +12v when the ignition is on, it will enable trunk release without the, but only if trunk isn't locked with the key, ie lock turned all the way to the right, wich rarely is, in wich case button release doesn't work. Good call.
@@joshroi8610 I know that this car only has electronic release, i never said it was nanual release, electronic release button will work when you bridge 2 pins on obd port, but only if the trunk/car is not locked, wich in this case it wasn't, he closed the keys inside the trunk, in order to open the trunk you need to push the button, wich will only work if the ignition is on, wich can be simulated with bridging 2 pins on obd port.
For everyone commenting about the trunk release or the seats coming down, it doesn’t work. Many seats in Mercedes are bolted on and can’t be taken off. And the trunk release only works when the car is turned on (keys needed) I’ve had this happen to me so I can say from experience that the trunk was the only way to retrieve the keys
Or, some cars have them but it doesn't work if the physical key lock is engaged. So someone can't break out your window and open your trunk. The cars with locking trunks usually don't have access when you fold down the back seats either.
I just found out yesterday about the VIN numbers after my keys were stolen! If it starts with a 1, it's made in American. If it starts with a 2, it's made in Canada, and if it starts with a 3, it's made in Mexico and so on! Had a key stolen and had to pay and have it programmed. 315.00 for new key and programming. What a bummer that was!
Had the same happened to me a few years ago!between the back seats there is a pass through for skis it is heals by a little screw on the inside of the trunk!you just give the pass through a punch and it opens up!
I bought an Accord Coupe that was almost new but only had one key. At a shooting match I attached the keys to my competition pistol bag and later tossed the gun bag into the trunk to go register for the match. Went back to retrieve the gun bag and remembered that the keys were attached to it. The car has an inside trunk release but it's lockable with the ignition key. I kept it locked because I transported that very expensive gun frequently. EXPENSIVE mistake. The car had to be taken to the dealer on a flatbed wrecker where they cut a new key off of the VIN. While it was there I had a spare key made and programmed along with a valet key and a key with no chip that will open all of the locks.
I used to do locksmithing and a few times I'd get a call for keys in the trunk , run the cc , and then I'd push the trunk release and pop there are your keys. People would be kinda pissed .
I once accidentally seized the trunk lock on my Mercedes, when my son pulled the trunk release while the car was at high speed. I took it to three different locksmiths and none could open the trunk. Eventually Mercedes charged me £1000 to open the trunk and replace the lock. This guy has some real skills.
Meanwhile my 2003 mercedes clk has both the button on driver door and also the manual release of back seats.. 🤷♂️ Edit: For those who don't know, mercedes keys, as i'm sure a lot of other brand are the same, can be pulled apart into a regular key and key fob, keep the key at home or always with you and you'll never have problems like this as the key can open all doors, can't start car without fob though so keep that in mind.
My focus and my step moms mustang dont have a button inside but mine has a keyhole on the truck. My step brother's focus that is 2 years newer has a button Insides but keyhole on the truck..
Most Mercedes-Benz have the rear seat fold release located in the trunk so if this does have them he couldn't fold them without opening the trunk anyway. And yes, the battery is in the trunk too. That looks like a CL-Class so its 2 door and most likely doesnt have folding seats. I could talk all day about cars. I bleed oil. I know them all. Okay bye now.
My Cadillac CTS was the same if the battery was dead you could not open the trunk, but you could fold down a middle arm rest and there was a trunk latch release in case of emergency. Im surprised this expensive car doesn't have something similar

In my S class, the gas tank is behind the seat, and I don’t know of any manual trunk release besides the button so if the battery is dead your out of luck without the key

Secondly, yes, we have a boot release button in the door, but it can be deactivated, and put in different modes that don't allow it to be opened with anything except the key, which is useless if its locked in the boot/trunk. I own a w209 and unfortunately you cannot get into the trunk through the rear seats but there is a button on the driver side door to open the trunk. Some electronic must be broken since it seems to only open with the key.

Y'all never owned a mercedes and it shows. Many models dont have folding seats, if they do typically the release button is in the trunk. There's a release, but it needs the key fob so Valet doesn't steal anything from the trunk.
Thats very strange, because my dad had a mercedes and if you forgot the key in the trunk it will never close as a safety feature, and when you remove the key in the trunk only then you can close it

My 2017 c300 w/ amg package has backseats that can be folded all the way down in order to fit large items like golf bags.
U have to connect pin 16 amd 8 on obd port. Then u can open it with the trunk button on the driver door

My Ford truck will not lock the doors if the fob is inside. Even it does, it has a keypad.
But you'll have to replace the transmission on the dodge at 120k miles.

My ex wife locked the keys to our Toyota in the trunk. I beat the deck lid with a hammer until the lock popped out. Couldn’t afford a locksmith.

No, the trunk release is on the remote. If you give the car to Valet parking you can disable trunk opening altogether.
