- COPS SHOWED UP after I noticed Break in during FREE Overgrown Lawn mowing at abandoned FUNERAL HOME
I was driving through the neighborhood and noticed an overgrown lawn from a distance so figured I'd check it out. After pulling in, I noticed this was an old funeral home. I approached the door and knocked but no one was there so quickly realized this was an Abandoned Funeral home. As I walked around the property, I noticed tree's were down, trash was everywhere but what I noticed next wass really strange. It looks like someone left some type of luggage cart underneath a tree and moments later, I noticed the side door to the funeral home was cracked open. I called the non emergency number and reported it and moment later several cop cars came flying in to investigate was what going on.

How sad the place is abandoned. The building is a beautiful Victorian style house and deserves to at least not look abandoned. Keeping it cleaned up may discourage people from breaking in so much as well as less trash being thrown on the property. I'd check with the city about the downed line and check into what it would take to remove that tree laying partially in the drive. You got it right about at least coming back and re-mowing what you just did to make it look even nicer. Good job and nice to see your little helper with you. Keep safe and blessed for what you do. This is the funeral home that did my dad's and father in-laws. Did not realize that they went out of business.

Oh I love this Eric, an absolutely gorgeous old home, historic I'm sure, as the church across the road. I want to see it all cleaned up, right down to the grass in the cracks on the driveway. I'd give your son a trash bag if he's looking for something to do, and pick up all the paper trash as you go over it with the mower. A gorgeous piece of property you picked to clean here.

This is interesting whereby in my state, Oklahoma, our city takes care of overgrown lots, and BILL the owner's if they can, but its taken care of! I wonder if your state allows this and perhaps you can get PAID! ( - ; In addition, abandoned properties like these are SOLD off for back taxes!
My small city in TX does that too, but it's a long process. They give a warning notice first and allow like 14-30 days for the owner to fix the issue. If still not done, the property is put on the list to cut the lawn at the property owner's expense and the property is issued a citation and/or lien placed.

There's a guy that does this in Tulsa & sometimes his wife helps him. One time there was a dead body in one of the houses where he & his wife were mowing & cleaning up the yard.
Sounds very sensible of Oklahoma to have such a realistic and respectful attitude to the unattended areas and caring to keep things moving forward.

What a tough job! You need a huge vacuum cleaner to pick up all the grass clippings! I'm surprised the city didn't get after that place for neglect! You are a very hard worker. Wish you had some kind of mask protection from all that dust. Protect your lungs!

Yes something to not breathe the dust. But even the "covid" masks are hard to breathe with in air conditioning while doing a busy job. I heard of some type of helmet with a fan...read a story years ago of a farmer that had one on when he fell into a silo of corn. They found him.. somehow as he sank. The device saved him. Charity is awesome, but begin "at home" by protecting you and your son first from damaging dustand noise. I don't think you and others like you need to be heroic particularly if the place is absndoned. The front was huge and helps out the community so much. Doing the back with trees and power lines and bicycles and who knows what else is there on a hot day could be dangerous. Take care of yourselves please.

I know the state shutdown the funeral home in 2019 from not putting prepaid funeral expenses in a authorized escrow account in 30 day's (law) 83 year's of service and boom new Lara law's gets so many Funeral homes shut down in seconds

Just some Info on The Funeral Home. The funeral home was established in 1936
Royal Funeral Home in Battle Creek has license revoked by state
Michigan regulators have revoked the license of Battle Creek's Royal Funeral Home.
The Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs said in a statement the funeral home and owner, Rick Royal, failed to reimburse holders of prepaid funeral services.
LARA said in May the funeral home had not placed money for prepaid services with an authorized escrow agent. While the funeral home had provided services for 20 of 92 contracts. A total of $192,204 had not been placed in escrow or refunded, officials said.
In the statement Thursday LARA said $78,000 of more than $194,000 in ordered restitution had not been repaid.
As a result the state said fines have been increased and any application for reinstatement of a license will be denied.
The state had said that all the money must be repaid by Feb. 28 but that was extended. The license was revoked on April 16.
The funeral home closed on May 28, 2019.

Fort Custer National Cemetary and I’ve been in that area many times. I try to pay it forward also.

Weeds and tall gras are almost impossible to cut with only one pass. He’s also semi mulching with each pass.

The whole lawn needs to be done, including removing the tree, the lines that are down may be phone co. See if others can help pay it forward with tree mulching, trimming, excess grass removal etc. great job

I'm pretty sure I've seen this place in a video of an "urban explorer." The guy didn't force his way in, it was already open, nor did he damage or take anything while he was there. Nice property. The place was in business for 83 years (Est. 1936), before it was shut down by the state pulled it's operating license on May 28th 2019, for prepaid contract "irregularities". Five charges are outstanding. With so many homeless, you can't blame them for squatting there, if that's the case.

This Battle Creek, MI property looks well cared in the "Google Streetview" image from 2019. Wonder what happened to the owner(s)?
The state of Michigan closed it down in may of 2019. They were stealing money from prepaid funeral service. Families weren't getting everything that was prepaid for. So those that are saying it's sad they went out of business can reconsider.
