I guess it's what we all do, who's is best etc, think we can say after these two tests they are both loved by their respective owners, and that all cars have their plusses and minuses, but all the life experiences good and bad have to be factored into the particular car ownership equation too 😉

FINALLY!!! Someone understands the cheap and cheerful JOY of dirt-cheap tiny, barebones cars!! Joe's overflowing joy for this stripped down run-about is AWESOME!! I own a 2017 Chevrolet Spark (essentially a Vauxhall Viva with a 4th cylinder) with a manual transmission and it's a BLAST!! I own the base model...crank-down windows and manual door locks and I LOVE it. No pretense, no flim-flam, just an honest little car that's a street legal go-kart. Puts a smile on my face every time I drive it. Long live stripped out tin cans with motors!!

First time I drove a Toyota Aygo a few years ago this is exactly what I thought. I used to own a 1982 Audi Coupe GT with a 1.9l 5 cylinder engine - that also sounded amazing when throttled up., a reall offbeat rasp and also a nice burble at idle too. Not exactly the full rally Audi Quattro, but it put a smile on your face for sure.

I found you through HubNut and have only been a subscriber of HubNut for about a week. I must say your videos are excellent, and your dedication to your SS is quite admirable. I binge-watched the repair progress of your SS after that unfortunate accident you had on the way back from Poland. You are well spoken and a joy to listen to. The very same can be said for HubNut too. I didn't expect to find both of these channels, but I'm glad I did. Please keep the great content up! • @peter7624
    @peter7624 Před 4 lety +5

The 3 cylinder growl is addictive and the Matiz ain't that slow. If you give it time it will cruise easily at motorway speeds and max out at about 90-95. It doesn't sound as if it's straining at that speed either. Not bad for 800ccs and 3 cylinders..I'm on my second Matiz. I've now got the 1000, but it hasn't got the same soundtrack as my old 800..

I always wanted the Fiat Seicento, but you can't even find them in South Africa on the second hand market.
The Daewoo Matiz. Well got one after looking for an Opel Kadett/ Vauxhall Astra and couldn't find a 1.4i. All the cars had problems I couldn't live with, and there in 2005 a burnt orange 0.8iS 2000 model was standing. Originally when it came out. Thought that would be cool to own, bought it before discussing with my family. As my brother always had the last say, according to them. Pulled up, and served me well. Best full tank range I got was 900km (562miles) before filling up, or the fuel light came on (with the light I normally got another 100km (62miles)). I moved house in one, got the futon double bed in (folded obviously), with an automatic top loader that was big for then in with half my wardrobe. Two trips and the move was done, for the items that could fit in. With the seats down, it gobbles up everything.
Reason I didn't go for the Seicento was already in trouble for not buying a Toyota, and didn't need the hassle of being shouted at for a 3 door car.
Drove long distances in the Matiz. With one way road trips being between 600 and 1000miles. My normal weekend trips of 200miles, were quick easy, no stress. Did everything my friends did with cars twice the size.
    Who said, bigger is better

Maybe you could both work on some light mods for Myrtle.

I did say light mods 😉
Discrete: new air intake, better tyres, brakes and shocks.
Chromies and thumping stereo ? Er no really not the man's style at all. Alternatively you could garage Myrtle while he's off globe trotting, work on it while he's away and then do a "pimp my Matiz" on him by pickng him up at the airport in it when he gets back 😁

A nice review of this cheerful little car - the car is rather better than I thought it might be. I reckon Fiat missed a trick rejecting this body design. It seems way more practical than the Seicento.

    • @MillerCorner

More practical, more top heavy though 😬

I suppose it’s not too far off the panda though that came after the Seicento shape wise
So it wasn’t a permanent rejection by any means 😉

i knew a guy out in Portland, Or. who bought one of those terrible little Fiat 850 spyders, he blew up the engine and then swapped a Mazda rotary into it. goes like stink. he does carry tools and extra axles. little cars are fun.

If you get the Chevrolet Matiz it comes with a rev counter - you can drive it for fun on the rev counter rather than the speedo
