Loved my old Matiz, V reg and tatty as hell. The best laugh I had was at Heathrow. I travel to Ukraine a lot and used to bomb up and down the M3 in it. Because it was an old ratty car it didn't matter if it got damaged in the car park. One time, after returning to the long stay car park in the bus from the terminal, I got off the bus at the same stop as a 'suit', you know the type, considerably better than most, all expensive luggage and new Audi. My old Matiz was parked a few cars down from his Q7, having been there just over a fortnight. While trying to juggle my cases into the back of the Matiz, there was the unmistakeable click click click of flat battery......coming from the Q7....my old Matiz fired right up, and with a cheeky beep beep as we passed the stricken Audi, roared off in 3 cylinder heaven....
Is 15,617 views and counting a record for a man popping to the shops in a Daewoo Matiz? Seriously I love these vlog style videos with your random mouth noises!!! More videos of popping to the shops please Ian :)
Used Lancaster Insurance to insure my Austin 1300. £93.20 fully comprehensive. And took her for a drive today too, made me feel like growing my hair, and growing a beard. Lol thanks Ian for all your brilliant videos 👍
The reason I love your videos so much is because of the lack of scripting and glamorous editing. It's real everyday life, as I know it. No made up bullshit with false jeopardy and cliffhangers. 'OMG, my Lambo(that I heavily financed dependent on my CZcams views) just spat it's dummy out,,,,,,,Find out why in the next episode'. It put a light on because the pads are getting low. Etc etc. You are just you. No bullshit. Take it or leave it.

Sometimes the cars that shouldn’t be endearing or characterful just end up being loved even more. My base model fiesta (rest in peace) was set out to be the most boring sensible car known to mankind but it was properly fun and punched above its weight in terms of performance. Obviously a few choice mods helped it to be a bit more unique, but I did really love that car just as I love my motorcycle. Btw if you want a decent action camera I’d suggest an akaso ek7000. I got one recently and it comes with loads of accessories and fits all GoPro accessories too. Love the matiz, excellent video.
Interesting as always. The Matiz can be a scary but fun car. I had a garage loaner while my mx5 got sorted. And without thinking took a long corner at my usual speed and got a serious wtf adrenaline buzz.
This is my car's Grandfather! I have a 2013 Chevrolet Spark which is sold as a Daewoo Matiz in some markets. I like watching your videos because I really like seeing the English countryside and all the little villages.
Classic HubNut content again...... Dont change a thing Ian...... Love the way you stroked the Matiz along at a good 50-60mph.......probably more legal fun than in a modern 300bhp hot hatchback.
My daughters first car was a Matiz and I loved driving it around town. Yes it was noisy, cramped and had rust issues but it was FUN! The daughter lives in Norwich and she made the journey to Yorkshire where I live, several times a year with no problems until the fateful night when a boy racer smashed into her and wrote 'Bugsy' off...rip Bugsy.
Glad to hear that Hubnut isn't going to sell the Matiz! I mean he was so lucky to find it once more after he foolishly sold it previously. Myrtle really needs to be part of the Hubnut permanent fleet. Unlike the Mazda which is so unloved it just sits there leaking itself to death from the inside out 😋
The people demanded more Myrtle and HubNut delivered! 😁😁Great to see the old girl and glad that you are still enjoying owning her. I agree that the original Matiz is a great looking car and massively underrated too. I’ve actually been looking for one as a project for a while but finding one with solid sills is proving surprisingly tricky! Anyway, excellent “random mouth noise”! More please! 😜👍🏻
This makes me miss my (facelifted) 2001 Matiz. I agree the M100 looked way better, but I found my M150's derpy face oddly endearing. I also loved the 3 cylinder's throaty tenor, and the sloth face in the steering wheel. Huge fan of the channel! Keep doing what you're doing :-)
Passed my driving test in a Matiz in 2014, it was perfect for the job. The bigger Corsa that belonged to my driving instructor was a bit of a pain from a visibility standpoint. Big a pillars and a swoopy belt line just wasn't going to be helpful, but the Matiz was miles better, so easy to place on the road and so friendly to a new driver.
I like this little car. The last time I was in Yorkshire, I saw a Matiz wearing a Chevrolet badge. We never got that one in Canada, but we got the Spark instead, which I understand was a Matiz elsewhere. It has a 1275cc four cylinder engine, and for a while, in Oregon and California, there was an EV version available. That would have been interesting. Thanks for producing these videos, Ian. Your love of cars and enthusiasm is always welcome.
Gotta love the mini-V6 sound of that engine. I’ve always liked these. Suspension fettle and slightly bigger/wider wheels would probably really stabilise the ride no end. Please don’t get rid of her again!
Another classic Hubnut video. Seemingly nothing much, but in reality quite a lot. Was the train the Aberystwyth to Devil’s Bridge Vale of Rheidol railway? PS More random mouth noise. No teams, one-man. Keep it HubNut!
Gimble, gimble, gimble,I've heard you use that word a hundred times and this is me just learning what it is. I thought it was an affliction you were cursed with. You know,"the camera's a bit wobbly,my gimble's playing up".
Hi Hub Nut.I too love the sound of the Matiz engine I think they are great and put a smile on your face. To me they are the modern A 35 small but room for four, cute with a happy face and bags of character. 👍
Love, love, love that 3 cylinder sound. The Matiz seems to be one of those cars that is so close yet just misses out on the cigar. Just a few design tweeks and it could be great. I suppose that's why it qualifies for the fleet. Oh, and keep randomly rambling, it's a skill!
Great little Video. Something we both have in Common Hubnut is we Both own a Daewoo. Both from the 1990s as well. Mine just happens to be a Nexia. I can relate to the steering too and the unstableness well I lost the back end of my Nexia on some snow once. Quite an exciting experience.
I definitely understand why you wouldn’t want to sell Mertal, the off the cuff videos are what CZcams is all about in my opinion and why I love watching your videos. Cheers.
Hi Ian,nice to see Myrtle in its form, its a tidy little motor, youre a lucky man living by a railway track I wouldn't be in the house just train spotting LOL,i do enjoy these videos with a sort of front seat view.
I prefer the original matiz too, and the colour of mercle. I just got my Hub Nut merch delivery today and very happy with it. I loved the way you used the tshirt to protect the mugs in the box, very Hub Nut that, but thanks Ian very happy with them.
Yes, on our Easter BH holiday to Wales we noticed how “Tourists drive at sensible speeds, while locals don’t” and also that locals drive in the middle of the road at speed towards us tourists and don’t like giving way 😃
I was just repairing the rear heated screen on the Ford (spit spit), and looked at my tatty external HubNut sticker and thought i'll order a new one. Get on the computer and what's the first thing i see a HubNut vid to watch , life is good. Apart from the rain. Stickers ordered, please deliver them to the post office in TWC.
My late Grandad owned 3 or 4 of these from when the Matiz first came out till he died about 11 years ago. He would have a new one and trade it in every 3 years when the MOT was due for another new one. I always remember how fast the car sounded, that little engine sounded like a right beast to me as a youngster who didn't know much about cars.
we are in South Wales. Going home back to Wigan today. Weather is about to turn horrible tonight so thought it mite be a good idea to get home while we can. Some lovely driving roads down here near Carmarthen. Well they are when you don't have numpty's up your arse.
fond memories...or maybe just memories. I had a Matiz as my first car. Managed to repeatedly snap the clutch cable which my dad put down to me driving like an idiot but I was later told by RAC its a common problem with these cars. Was very cheap to run though! Great vid :)
THe Daewoo MAtiz, owned mostly by elderly little ladies in my experience. Very reliable little car, hardly ever goes wrong. Cheap as chips to run and service. Its the ultimate city car. Check your underseat wiring loom for broken wire, likely to be the cause of the airbag light on..
Great weather for Easter. Look forward to a summer of pouring rain and gale force winds. Love the sound of three cylinders. Nice to see Wales in the sun
There's a three cylinder Corsa which drives round my area. The owner has put a loud exhaust on it. I'm not usually into that sort of thing but I have to admit that car sounds amazing!
Great video. Love that hard working 3 cyl sound. I have heard from 2-3 you tuber that have had DjI asmo stabilizers that they are problematic. Only in Japan had one and had nothing but problems with battery related issues and conking our despite full charges, non-existent warranty service. In a pinch he ordered a zhiyun smooth-Q which was notably and that worked well for over a year of constant use, but then slowly started wearing out and tilting. Unfortunately New was out of stock, so he bought a new DJI model only to have some different problems. No great. Drones work well apparently tho.
Right-angled jack adaptor for the external mic. would bring the phone back more into the centre of the mount - it looked like the plug was fouling the gimbal body which wouldn't help. The three-cup mount looks to be the junior version of what I've seen used to mount broadcast cameras on the bonnets of cars. Edit - noticed someone else has mentioned the right-angle adaptor. The other good thing is that in the gimbal, an adaptor would place less strain on the socket and the PCB in the phone.
What a great sound she makes. Sorry I missed you at Scotoshite on Wednesday. You might have liked my 3 cyl Corsa B that I was going to bring. It has rudimentary silencing apparatus, sporty suspension, good tyres and light controls and is a lot of fun for 55bhp. Firm ride from the hard suspension though!
Your videos come together really well - maybe minimal cheapish equipment, but the end result is excellent and very watchable. It looks like you need to invest a little capital to find a solution to your gimble woes. You say you've lost money on Myrtle, but I don't think many people make a profit on old cars, apart from a few specialist companies - it's more a labour of love.
I agree with your comments on the looks of the car. Didn't know you live next to the railway. I will have passed your house then! That's before I knew you existed!
Always interesting and entertaining, even if you sometimes don't have much to say - it doesn't matter. I always have some reaction to them. And today's reaction is how clean and tidy inside the Matiz is. You must be very fond of that little car, quirks and all. And why not? If I could find my first car (Viva 1600 HB) again after all these years, I'd look after it too.
I had the same issue with my phone and the DJI Gimbal. I bought a low profile 90 degree adapter for the mic lead and all was well as I could get the phone pretty much fully across. Ebay - couple of quid :)
Random drive and chat why not I envy your location I take my wife for a leisure drive 99% Of the time we end up in traffic jams wonder why we bother so I enjoy the run when watching your mystery drives in the countryside more to come I hope drive safely enjoy. 🚗
These pre facelift Matizes (?) look really adorable. You definitely should save it, firstly because of the sentimental value and also partly because there won’t be many of these left soon :( Oh, and having a steam train go right past your house is so cool.
On the gimbal front there are a couple of things you could try. Have a look at getting a 90 degree 3.5mm mic adapter to clear the motor housing. Also you may possibly have it set up to some kind of pitch follow mode rather than keeping it level.
The Matiz growl reminds me of the Peugeot 107 I used to drive through Motability. I switched to a 208 as I didn't like the 108 that replaced the 107. That was a fun car to drive. Keep up the random musings.
Love the unscripted rambling and relaxed style Ian :) It's just like you're chatting to a friend and I guess that is what we all love :) Much better than the over produced fake nonsense on tv these days!!! Plus I met you at the HubNut social at the Yew Tree and you're the same guy in real life too :) HubNuts just real. Please keep the crazy gimbal too, it's part of HubNut now!!!
To be honest all Daewoos of this era were not sharp handlers to put it mildly. I had a Nubira, whose steering was ridiculously over-assisted. The whole car felt as if it weighed next to nothing as a result, and there was no feedback at all. Add that to the leaning into bends, poor grip, wooden brake feel and the most obstructive gearbox I've used in any modern car (it always went into gear but it was as clunky as hell, and wasn't helped by the very slow return to idle). It also managed to be both bouncy and crashy at the same time, quite the feat. And this is coming from someone who has also owned a Hyundai Accent, that was superb by comparison... Reliable cars though and not rust-prone.
i watched a "rogue cowboy something or other" TV programme a few years back where a dodgy dealer had sold a woman a rotten Matiz... it was scrapped and a generous local Hyundai dealer agreed to give her a free brand new i10 (via the production company).
People make videos that aren't planned so much or scripted and that's why people who do the same thing enjoy them,if it's too slick it can put people off doing it themselves
I first learned to drive in a Seicento they are so much fun but in the end had to sell as the car rusted to bits, the fuel tank rusted, the coil springs rusted the under body rusted lol typical italian car
@@christineayres7094 Yes although it passed it came with a list of advisories - including future welding, however it has only done 61,000 miles, 40,000 of which I have done myself. Had a clutch replaced a few years back, tyre changes, always serviced and wiper blades and that is it. I will be sad when she has to go 😟
@@andyfield7397 Yeah shame the Italians make Fiats to fall apart as they are such fun little cars, ive owned a Punto in the past too , fun car ruined by poor build quality again
Try a 90 degree mike plug instead of the straight one you have. It will give you more clearence to move your phone nearer the centre. It might help. Good vids Ian.
You do right to keep Myrtle. I parted with my 1998 Matiz and miss it a great deal. Brilliant little cars. And yes, the facelift did nothing for the looks!
The Gimbal Bimble, where even popping to the shops is entertaining. Now I’m noticing cars like yours elsewhere... I saw a cream coloured Reliant Fox in Sudbury earlier.
Beg to differ in that having had Mk1 and Mk2 I do prefer the restyle - not that the Mk1 is in any way offensive on the eye. All of these are good - having driven 800cc ones I think they are the nearest I ever got to my '72 Dyane - 5 doors - seats for all - off beat warble and mucho fun

There’s nothing wrong at all with your video style or production. I’m sure I speak for most of your fans that we like the HubNut style 👍🏼😎
You are a lucky man to live in what looks like such a beautiful place👍🏼
Love, love, love that 3 cylinder sound. The Matiz seems to be one of those cars that is so close yet just misses out on the cigar. Just a few design tweeks and it could be great. I suppose that's why it qualifies for the fleet. Oh, and keep randomly rambling, it's a skill!

The Matiz growl reminds me of the Peugeot 107 I used to drive through Motability. I switched to a 208 as I didn't like the 108 that replaced the 107. That was a fun car to drive. Keep up the random musings.
I love a top tint windscreen
Love the unscripted rambling and relaxed style Ian :) It's just like you're chatting to a friend and I guess that is what we all love :) Much better than the over produced fake nonsense on tv these days!!! Plus I met you at the HubNut social at the Yew Tree and you're the same guy in real life too :) HubNuts just real. Please keep the crazy gimbal too, it's part of HubNut now!!!
The 3 cylinder growl definatley makes up for the lack of Ptchoo
It's a sweet sound.
I like Myrtle. My car is a 2009 Chevy Aveo, which is a Daewoo something-or-other.
Nice to see the matiz out and about, and glad to report my HubNut stickers turned up today😁👍
Your car switching is contagious. Tomorrow I'll get my new 20 year old car. Of course I ordered a new HubNut sticker!
Hub Nut, you make me laugh, I look forward to your vids, don't ever stop.
Hey, look I drive a Seicento (new MOT, passed again - yay !)
Matiz sounds like luxury although the little Fiat has the fun of driving a go-kart !
I've got a 3.0l V6 Vectra Estate - love the sound of that engine!!! Manage to get >44 MPG from that, for a diesel.
That Suzuki.... blimey indeed !
Use an angled 3.5mm audio jack to bring the phone further to the right
Hi Ian - The Matiz reminds me of my sons more "modern" VW Fox, which was a pretty nice little 3 cylinder car. Well made and reliable.
You do right to keep Myrtle. I parted with my 1998 Matiz and miss it a great deal. Brilliant little cars. And yes, the facelift did nothing for the looks!
Great little car, looks fun to thrash through those bends. 👍
I like the Matiz 😀
An extra like for the rolling shutter!
Almost want to make a "popping to the shops" video in my mum's 2005 1200 Micra of death!
14k views already for a man driving a daewoo matiz. Excellent work!
Great video. As always. I enjoy the simple videos. The best. And its good to see the older cars In use
Always enjoy rambling unscripted videos, btw the scenery and your area in Wales looks absolutely delightful.
The least clickbaity title on CZcams.
Watching this on the ipad - you mention your hair drying - the Mrs says “ has he got wet hair again”? Duh......
.
very nice simple and enjoyable
ps I hope George appreciates how far you have to go to get him his snacks
Lovely countryside views.
Apparently it has Jatco JF405E - 4-speed ultra-light compact (formerly JF402E)
