- In this Czech history documentary, we'll be taking a look at the Hussite Wars, which were a series of conflicts fought between the religiously reformed Bohemians and the buzz-kill Catholics. Learn all about Jan Zizka, Sigismund of Hungary and a time period that would've been more interesting in Kingdom Come Deliverance.

Quick note on the borders of Bohemia: At the time of the Hussite Wars, Bohemia controlled a fair amount of territory to the north in Silesia, but this never really fell under Hussite control, thus I grouped it into the borders of the HRE (which it was part of) and only included Bohemia and Moravia in the borders of Hussite Bohemia.

Do I detect sincere praise for a competent and innovative military strategy? Talk about off-brand!
(Wagon forts are pretty cool though)
Oops. I’ll have to go back and edit some sarcasm into that part. Good catch. ;)
Wagon forts bring me back to playing Germany in Age of Empire 3.
I forgot about that! My little brother and I used to play that all the time!
As somebody who has fought from within a wagon fort, I agree.
That bit of asmr will forever haunt me Connor... Great video though! And a great visual representation of defenestration. Loved taking part in this collab with you.

I’ve been to Prague. It was amazing to see such a pivotal piece of history where a guy got yeeted out of a window and landed in a pile of dung. Simply glorious.
That was the second one actually, for the a bit larger Thirty Years War
That was the other other defenestration caused by religious unrest and happened ~200 years after this, the people thrown out by Hussites landed in an angry mob
And it was three times actually. Well 2 times they through living people, at the second case attackers first killed the town council and then trough their bodies out of windows. 3rd time, in 1618, noble people through kings officers out of windows in Prague castle, but they survived. So I guess only 1st really counts. :D

jokes aside, this is a very informative and educative, yet not too overbearing, simple and humorous video, a really nicely balanced one from such a small creator.

Thank you! I certainly plan to keep this gig up for the foreseeable future.
Sparked a new movement of religious revolutionaries favoring Hus' ideas who called themselves -the hussites- THE WINGED HUSSARS
I’m sure I’ll do a video on those guys at some point.
That´s Poland.
Winged hussars sounds better than boxed Hussites.
Enjoyed this. Good work! Eastern European medieval history is so interesting. Bohemia itself is arguably an older state than Germany.
Thanks! :) I know! I think it’s interesting how it’s a bit of a mixture between Slavic and Germanic.

I got so many flashbacks from Kingdom Come Deliverance. Death to Sigismund! Hahha
I actually haven’t gotten around to playing that game yet? Would you recommend?
@@HistoryHouseProductions Definitely! It takes place after HRE Charles dies and how it introduces a problem that which his son Wenceslaus as an incompitant ruler who would rather hunt, drink, and be around women. The story comes from the perspective of a peasant with high ambition who was raided by Sigismund, the son of Charles by a different mother. The main characters town, Skallitz, has a silver mine, and the hired troops of Sigismund were the savage-like Cumans who plundered villages in order to be compensated. The game overall is fun and as a History major in college, I felled in love with it and it was a great introduction to 15th century Bohemia. The video you recorded could potentially be the storyline of a potential sequel to the game, haha. Juat be prepared to devote some 150 hours of gameplay, though it could be addictive so time flies by.
Sounds fun!

You forgot in 1403 some important dialogue in a tavern in Uzhits with the emissary of Radzig Kobyla (Wenceslaus's trusted Lord) and a parish priest.
Inn-keeper:Hey Henry's come to see us!
Goodwin: You will preach about Jan Huss in my stead.

Nice video. There are some simplifications, but I cannot believe you forgot to mention that in the battle of Vítkov Hill stood about 80 old men, women and children against several thousand professional knights on horses and won. Most badass battle of that war.
Yeah, I had a whole section on that in the original script, but I mentioned something similar in the previous battle, so I cut it from the final script.
Worth to mention that Jan Zizka participated in the battle of Grunwald with Teutonic Order on the Polish side.
Great vid, thanks for producing this. Ill be waiting for more.

Fun fact, during a lull in the hundred years war, Joan of Arc apparently got bored and wrote a threatening letter to the Hussites promising to "remove your madness and foul superstition, taking away either your heresy or your lives." She even tried to get the British to join forces with her to fight them, they never got back to her.
Huh. That’s wild
Not surprising really she was obviously a religious fanatic of course she hates people who stand against the Church.

I love this type of humor 🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂
I’m glad you find it amusing. XD
As a Czech, I found all those Tahborritheh and Utrrakitheh very funny. Othervise, great video. As for the borders: you used borders of Bohemia proper and Moravia, which is OK. While the Lands of the Bohemian crown included other parts, like Egerland, Silesia and Lusitania, those were in a sort of personal union and were governed by the same guy (i.e. Bohemian king) under different title. And in those part of the "miniempire", maybe due to the significant number of German inhabitants, the whole Husitte never catched up, so those countries were usually treated as enemy territory. Even most parts of Moravia. Altough later a significant number of Silesian rulers (suzerains of the King of Bohemia) aligned themselves with the Hussite movement. Under threat of being destroyed, obviously.
Good information. You know a lot!
very cool
Nice. This is my favorite. If you don´t know there is old movie trilogy: Jan Hus, Jan Žiška, Proti všem (againts all) First one is about whole thing about burning Jan Hus, second is from Prague defenestration to Battle of Sudomer. And final is little later with battle of Vitkov hill being final fight. Also there is upcoming film Medieval which is sad to be about hussites. However footage of film doesn´t look hopefool at all since it seem to be authentic like Battlefield 5. For example bikers pants are very popular amongs Czech and Slovak people.
You have spoiled the sequel to Kingdom come: Deliverance.
Kirby has found your sin unforgivable.

Perfect pronunciation of "Jan Hus", good effort on the rest. "Utrakvisté" and "Táborité" could be transformed into "Utraquists" (as from "sub utraque", "under both", since they took both bread AND wine during masses) and "Taborites" (or even Campers, since "tábor" means "camp").
