Me an intellectual uses the polyline and paintbucket tool
How does one learn this power?
8:52 kai falls for his own art ;)
Hahahaha! Welp, ya caught me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ What can I say? I'm in love.
Oh lord I actually did that before where I redrew anime characters in my style and I died when it came to redrawing Sebastian michaelis 😂
"I never use reference"
You will regret that, trust me
I always used the "Selection" tool to color, and It keeps having these little jittery white pixels, because For SOME reason, even after your tips, my lines dont look smooth, so I wanna ask
What resolutions would you recommend??
I never regret things! :D Using references aren't 100% necessary, unless you're drawing someone who exists. If I wanna draw a random girl, you don't really need to look at a picture of some random girl :D It may help, if you're not comfortable with proportions, or angles yet... but it's not necessary.
Even after all my smooth line videos? I didn't really talk about line smoothness in this one... since it wasn't about lines, but color... so if you haven't yet - try checking out my smooth lines video (or any of my other smooth lines videos) that I recently posted! That should clear things up :) If you're on Windows, you may wanna fiddle with your pen settings there.. instead of in Krita. Windows is silly... and messes stuff up too easily.
As for which resolutions to draw in... high ones. If I'm drawing in a 16:9 aspect, I usually draw in 2560x1440. If I'm making a logo, I usually create it in 3000x3000, if I'm drawing something where I don't particularly have a aspect in mind... I draw at, at least 3000x3500 :)
Select something, then go to select in the top bar and choose to make the selection bigger, how much is up to you to choose
@@TutsByKai You don't use references to draw the actual girl you use them to see what happens to anatomy and lighting in general. Using a few references to give you necessary information is a good thing and will improve your art.

also! for the bucket tool a way to remove those damn blank pixels is increasing the grow selection to 1 px in the bucket tool options
Thank you for making this video, I'm coming from pencil and paper so watching how people actually use the new resources available helps a lot.
Loved your intro, I needed to hear something dorky (in a fun way!) after all my frustration with my failed attempts at coloring lol. Thank you for the tutorial.
I've watched so many videos on clip on layers and all sort of crazy techniques, this is a lot simpler and much better for a beginner like me, thank you so much
Glad to help!
*Enjoys coloring by hand*
me : *looks at my mouse cuz im broke af*
same
@@gwenvictoriamata3194 but hey, i got a new mouse
Yay! I was the same for a long time, I had to save up :)
Me broke too but i got a tablet for like $30.
I'm a little late to the party but man, thanks a looooot for this tut. I just got into krita a few days ago and coloring line art has been so hectic!
Stay blessed 🤗
Thank you so much for this video. I’m learning to do digital art and this was really helpful
This is such a good tutorial dude I'm subscribing
Thank you very much pal :)
@@TutsByKai :D
I'm really new to the program n stuff and I've been watching ur tutorials, and they've been helping improve and getting used to so, thanks 4 t tutorials my dude, thayve been helping me understand
thanks, I'm just getting started working with krita, these tutorials are helping a lot✨
Glad to help out
Thank you so much for this tutorial!!! Really needed this....this just cleared my mind!!! Thanks again:))
I just started using Krita and this is so good and so clear. Thank you, Kai!
You're so welcome!
At first, I didn't really how to fill shapes so I just colored it by hand in the traditional way
Very wonderful sketch.. Thank you for presenting!
Thank you so much.
Thank you because I didn't know what I was doing for base coloring
I know this is 7 months later but this is an amazing tutorial definitely deserves a sub
He is giving terrible advice and doesn't know what he's doing.
Thank you! I'd love to see your tutorial, so I can learn how to draw properly :)
@@juiceski30 what do you mean by that?
Using krita now. I can finally utilize you tutorials afte years of following your videos.
I've been experimenting with Krita's Bristle Brush Engine lately, and the end result of my line art coloring with said brush engine looks as though the line art had been traditionally painted on a transparent sheet of celluloid. If I'm going to get back into 2D animation, I might consider putting Krita's Bristle Brush Engine to good use in the coloring process.
This really helped me !
Thanks Bro, I literally didn't know where to find the color tool button!!
It really helping me thank you
This was a great tutorial, I always had really bright colours which I didn't really want because it looked horrible. However after your tutorial it makes sense. Less is more
Thank you very very much :) Yes! Less is always more, even in large scale "hyper realistic" paintings, you've gotta know when to say "that's enough of that color", or "I could nitpick this all day, but... this piece is finished" :)
@@TutsByKai Very true! Great tutorial man, hopefully it helps me in the future. Keep the videos coming! 😀
Awesome! Love to help :)
Awe you have green eyes cute btw thanks for this great free class you save my life
I have an advanced color wheel, and a tablet with a pen that has this sensitivity, meaning if I press hard it appears darker, and if I press lightly the color becomes lighter, do you know a way where it's much simpler? cuz I want to draw cartoons lol
really usefull tutorial man! i use krita but i dont know how to use it very well
Aww thanks! Well, I have a lot more Krita videos on my channel. Head to my Krita playlist for more tips and stuff! You may see something you've been wondering about :)
super helpful
I know I most likely won't get a response, but for shading, do you use the same layer or a different one?
Different one. Always best to do an much as you can separate - in case you wanna change something later :) (unless you want a more painterly style... then one layer might feel more natural)
What is the pen settings or how to make it to where it won't touch the black?
Hi! How do you color under your line art? I was used to photoshop that I can just paint either under or over without messing with the layers. I tried doing sketch, then locked that layer. I created new blank layer under it to color but it doesn't fill in colors at all 😂 i'm basically new to Krita, any tips?
Check this out czcams.com/video/sO6PQjlsues/video.html
there is a video for the palette you use ? it show the actual colour , how it look ( on the wheel )
Probably this will seem a stupid question, but i just can't figure out: how do you color without hide the black lines that you already draw?
With fill tool,go to tool setings and changed Threshold on 99.
Hey Kai!I'm really late to this video but quick question.in this video while you were coloring, when you were coloring i noticed that you would go on other details (like eyebrows, lips) but that color wouldn't cover the details.I really wanna know how you did that because I have been struggling to. Awesome video, by the way!
Hi! All the stuff I want to be solid black, is drawn on the line art layer - which is above my color layer :)
When i add a new layer and place it under neath i cant see anything i draw
How are you lowering the brush size as your painting? Like, for example, when you're shading the shadow under the chin around 4:40 - 4:50, or when shading the lips around 7:09?
I do believe it's Ctrl (or shift) + clicking and holding the bottom most button on your digital art pen (can't recall if I'm not actually doing it :D )
@@TutsByKai Thanks! It looks like the command is shift + touch stylus onto tablet (or click w/ mouse) and move up/down to adjust =)
YASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS THANK YOU LORD! And Kai
YOU are ALWAYS welcome
when I try to color on the color layer nothing shows up and thats the same for the line art layer most of the time pls help
Thank you
Nice work
What pencil in krita in this video you used?
Did I watch a video with a topic I already knew? yes
Did I enjoy it? hell yeah!
How u colour without getting over the lines just with ur hands that amazing how u do that
Use layers. Line art above the color and shading.
Your the best ❤❤😊
So if you put the layer under the line art it won’t color over your line art? Like you can see the color and the lines of your line art without the lines getting ruined? C:
Yeah, that's why I do it on a second layer, underneath the lines. If you do it above the lines layer, then - you'll be able to the all the places you went outside the lines. And I'd be a pain to draw the color on the same lines. Almost impossible! :)
TutsByKai thank you! I tried it and it worked I’m so glad! Because I’ve been using color masking and that can be a pain to use
(Hey pal! I see you left this same comment on three videos :D from what I can gather, it sounds fine. I believe you're talking about the move tool? And if so, it's suppose to bring up a small grey plus in the center of the layer. Once you hit enter, it should go away.)
Hmmmm.thanks man, I got tired of not having a clue of drawing on tablet so I decided to see some art this helped a bit thanks man. Maybe u could do a video explaining all the tools for krita cuz I'm confused with eareasinv pencil and pen but on digital it's all the same thing and then I end up eareasinv the whole thing.it also frustrates me when I try colouring in but I have no clue how others do it when it automatically goes a colour on the t shirt and nothing else like what. It would take me like an actual month to colour in a fat stick.man or something simple like that with shading. I got a tablet formy birthday and parents r complaining I'm.noy using it as often.so I'm looking at how I could not get annoyed at the damn thing.
What brush did you use to make the line art? looks great
czcams.com/video/2PMlGumC10o/video.html :)
can someone please explain to me why I shouldn't just use the fill tool on the same layer as the sketch?
Because then the dirty sketch is in the way.
So when I post my art on social media such as Twitter, the colors look completely different on my phone than on my laptop, is there a way to fix that?
Sounds like the colors on your laptop are off (or your they're off on your phone - but it's unlikely). Try heading to your laptops settings and fixing them :)
1:19 how does he color over his black lines without it getting covered? can somebody please explain it to me.😭😭
The only issue I'm facing with coloring is that even if my coloring layer is below my lineart, the coloring affects the lineart. It doesn't color over the lineart, but rather changes the color of the lineart where it touches it.
How does coloring effect the lineart if it's under it? Is your lineart slightly transparent?
Can you tell me the brush that you use for the sketch?
czcams.com/video/2PMlGumC10o/video.html :)
you deserve my like sensei

@@TutsByKai well... Gotta translate that
NICE
Maybe I SHOULD try out layers. I've literally just been drawing lines and filling them in with the paintbucket tool.
YES. Layers are your friend :)
@@TutsByKai By the way, how do you do that thing where you use the brush tool to colour without ruining any of the lines? I've tried recreating your setup but it wont work for me.
@@lukevankleef4245 same, I don’t know how to do that but I have a tip for you
If your sketch seems too dark, you could increase the brush size and use the eraser tool and just go through it, it works for me I hope it does for you too! :)
hello! I was wondering, when you were coloring, ur lineart didnt get colored as well. I wanna know how you did that.
Add another layer under your lineart layer, like I did in the video :)
@@TutsByKai ooooohhh, thank you!!!
I’ve been watching so much of your videos cuz damn this stuff helpful but how do color your art without colouring the lines
Simple. Use layers :)
I’m a special kind of dum
How do u that in 1:20?
How'd you get both the pallette ant the color selector in one window :S
Top right, there should be a button that has different Workspace presets :)
How come Krita doesn't allow you to color only within the lines while Photoshop does????
Photoshop lets you color only inside raster lines without selecting anything?
How your line is not coloring?
W tut
Krita noob here, how do you make it so that you paint under the line art
Layers. Add a layer under the line art layer.
How did you paint by not going over the lineart?????
Create a layer under the lineart and color on that.
The undo button in Krita disappeared how do I get it back ?? It’s super annoying
Not sure, that's never happened - since I don't use the undo button - I only use Ctrl+Z :) You could try resetting your workspace on the top right.
wow this was one of the best, most to the point tutorials i have ever seen
WHERE 👏 DO 👏 YOU 👏 GET 👏 THE 👏 ART 👏TRIANGLE👏
Top right should be a square button to change workspaces. Hit that until you have the setup you like.
TutsByKai ohhhh thanks lol ☀︎︎
good stuff
Can anyone please tell how to convert your image into sketch like Kai did
czcams.com/video/4nEA7-wtQxo/video.html :)
how do you color under the lineart?
Add a new layer under the line art, like I did in this video.
@@TutsByKai Ok thanks!
Anytime :)
How did you color it without covering the lines
He created a new layer below the sketch just to color it.
^^^^^
@@mariapaulaurbinaalvarado2744 thanks man
When I try coloring why does it always overwrite my lineart?
Because you're drawing on the same layer.
Try coloring on a layer under your lineart
For a second there i heard Aztecross at the beginning :'D
wait why do people color the whole drawing one color
7:12 "hello everybody, my name is markiplier"
Why are my colors inverted!?!?!?!
You can FILL????
czcams.com/video/sO6PQjlsues/video.html
How do you rotate the canvas? Thanks!
from the thumbnail i thought the drawing was an anime character
Is it just me or does that look like senku from dr. stone
Ha! She probably reminds you of him because of the white-ish blond hair, with the green tones :D Yeah, I can totally see it too :D
You never use reference? You don't use tools like alpha inheritance or create layers for shade/highlight? I think this is bad advice.
Most people use the lasso tool then fill with a solid color inside their art and then alpha lock it and paint so you can move your pen wild and loose. Doing it like this and zooming in to paint with one color, then why even bother using digital? The whole point of doing digital is being able to do more faster rather than spending days tracing with a light table like comic artists used to do.
Different artists do different things different ways. Getting stuck using reference is a creative crutch.
@@TutsByKai I think you're a fraud.
ok gotta call you out, 'you never use reference images to draw' bs, that is how you learn to draw dude. ALL artists uses references. Otherwise we couldn't draw lol. please don't spread misinformation like that though, that's how we end up with 99 percent of deviantart
Bad tutorial..... flat colours only????
How does that make it bad? My style is flat graphic. This tutorial isn't for shading, it's for color.
boy this is bad, colouring everything by hand?
thanks for the vid hope you read the bible and understand Gods wisdom
