As a relatively new person adopting Hinduism, I have found it strange when I read about festivals in India honoring Ravana. In different versions of the Ramayana I have read, as well as serials I've watched, I've never felt anything but negative feelings toward Ravana. I guess some people seem to align themselves with him because they're not the best people themselves.
I hate to say it but, I do love the song to Lord Shiva.
Ravana is a learned man but with wrong intentions. Just like nuclear scientists today who make missiles and missile carriers. Intention comes from your background, your upbringing, the things you crave and aspire for, the values you revere.
A society that values pleasure, convenience, selfishness and lavishness will end up destroying everything around it.
Hinduism does not start with solutions like bible or koran but asking its followers to search for answers. All its great books from vedas to upanishads to puranas are just guides to ignite an individual to search for truth. Hence we have millions of ways of thoughts and we are ok with everyone of them. Thats how nature is, every leaf and fruit on a tree is different.
So knowledge does not make a great human being nor establish a great society. Thats why the colonizers though had done great scientific developments, organized capitalism, industrialization etc. only went on to destroy culture, civilizations and climate and continue to do so by imposing their ideas around the world.

I am surprised that in 100 years of Indian film industry, there is no film or series which shows Valmiki ramayan as it is without changing facts. That's y even I didn't understand how beautiful ramayan is untill I read. People only glorify major scenes like elevating movie heroes.
That's why in any movie you take on ramayan, kishkinda kanda ANd yudhakanda are the major runtime. No one even care about balakanda, ayodhya kanda and Aranya kanda except the major events of that.
They do it just to polarise people and gain political power. Divide and rule policy adopted by the britishers in India, still exists.

Of behaviors there are two kind - good & bad. Knowing both behavior are called knowledge, but knowing which behavior to choose are called wisdom.
Wisdom are always greater than knowledge. Ravana had learned all the 64 types of kala or knowledge. 64 is the maximum number of knowledge & there's nothing more than this.
Rama had only learned 32 types of kala or knowledge.
Although Ravana had learned & acquired all the 64 types of knowledge but at the end he was still defeated by Rama who only had 32 types of knowledge.
Why?
Because Ravana had only attained knowledge but not wisdom. That's why he misused all his powers. Where else Rama had mastered the knowledge as well the wisdom of how to use all his powers wisely.
For an example knowing how to use a knife are called knowledge. If it lands into a thief's hand he will use it to take a life but if the same knife lands into a doctor's hand he will use it to save a life.
This is the difference between knowledge and wisdom, difference between Ravana & Rama.

Not only Ravana but Surpanakha herself was very lustful too. Sister ran after someone's husband and brother ran after someone's wife and because of that their entire Kingdom perished. What a great family! But some politicians, movie makers, people of some state especially in the South and leaders of different faith or religion are trying their best to distort our real history and they glorify such evil characters so that we Hindus will loose faith in our own scriptures and religion, so that they could convert Hindus easily. Some people simply don't understand this truth and they keep glorifying Ravana without reading Valmiki Ramayana which is the one and only real source of Ramayana!

Shiv tandav stotra believed to be written by Ravana to impress Lord Shiva is revered even today, is'nt it ironical then?? If being lustful at some time is such a great unpardonable sin, what about Indra who is depicted as lustful at times along with many other qualities which are not even remotely divine??? Personalities like Rama and Ravana are complex and layered and it would be too imprudent to label them as black or white completely.

Then according to your logic please tell me why would the same Lord Shiva who gave so much of love and boon to Ravana would incarnate as Lord Hanuman just to help Lord Rama to kill him? The sole purpose why Lord Shiva incarnated as Lord Hanuman are to serve Lord Rama and Sita Devi for His Life Long and not Ravana. Hanuman is a Chiranjeevi (Immortal) and He is still serving Lord Rama and Sita Devi till today. I repeat again from the day Hanuman started to serve Lord Rama and Sita Devi, He is still serving them *till Today Without Fail!*

She tried to commit suicide by hanging herself to the tree with her hair after she listens to what ravan spoke with her in an inappropriate and lustful way. We need to understand one thing clearly, poetically Tamilians loves Kambar Ramayanam because of the greatness of the poet but many parts of the Kambar Ramayanam were changed according to Tamil culture which clearly informs us that Kambar Ramayanam is not the original version. So we have three choices here :
Valmiki Ramayana - Original Version hence use this as a master reference to verify the facts related to Ramayana
Kambar Ramayanam - To understand the Ramayana according to Tamil culture perspective
Other Version - Based on respective languages

I watch your videos... great work.. I used to hate the part of Ramayana where Ramji leaves Mata Sita when she was pregnant..it took a very long time to understand this.... I know a great injustice was done by Rama at that time but we should understand here that Vishnuji has took Avatar to kill the Asuras and also give gyan of Rajneeti to the humans... The sacrifices of the leader when He/She took a responsibility specially for people whom they are leading... Being Selfless Is Definitely Not Easy... That particular leader's history should be clean or these kinds of situations arise... I think you should add this to your work...I am not a great intellect but i understood this...

No there is another misconception about rama. Rama had to tell sita to give the agni pariksha for sita matas sake . Later in ramayana you will find a sloke where rama said his heart died when he had to send sita for agni pariksha. And sita didn't got angry over rama for saying that. Because sita mata new what was rama going through. Cause rama and sita was single being with two body.

I don't think the agni pariksha episode is part of the original Valmiki Ramayan. It actually comes from the Tulsidas Ramayan written many centuries later but since the telecasted "Ramayan" also shows that event it has become imprinted on millions of minds.

There are Vedic gurukuls even now, but Parents (manily Brahmin parents) want their children to become engineer and doctor, so not possible.

In ancient times, knowledge was transfered through Paramapara (Disciplic succession)
There were no written texts at that time (But at dwapara yug, Paramatma has to incarnate as Vyasadeva to save the vedas from GOONS)
Brahmana, Kshatriya and Vaishya were allowed to go to Gurukul and learn the Vedic knowledge, ALL THREE MUST PERFORM SANDHYAVANDANA 3 TIMES A DAY,
they stay with their Guru at Brahmacharya ashrama till they are 25 and then from 25-50 is their Grihasta ashrama. After 50, Brahmana and Kshatriya can only become Vanaprastas.
After Vanaprasta, ONLY BRAHMANA CAN TAKE SANYASS ASHRAMA at any age.(Guru is next to God).
Brahmana learns the 4 vedas, how to perform Yagna, AYURVEDA , offering to the devatas, Ashta siddhi vidya, atma-vidya (UPANISHADS) , Moorti puja and Bhakti to Paramatma from Guru.(ONLY BRAHMIN CAN BECOME GURU TO TEACH OTHERS)
Kshatriya learns Dhanurveda (all ready documented by Project Shivoham), Secret mantras for Divya-astras from Guru and the devatas, Shastra vidya (use of physical weapons), Political science, Ruling techniques, Justice methods for citizens, CONSTITUTION IS THE MANU SMRITI.
Vaishya learns the Vedas, Trading methods,economic studies etc.
They must perform business as per scriptures and they do regularly pooja to Lakshmi and Yagnas for wealth, when they have more wealth, the prosperity of the state/country increases and they donate food to Brahmacharis/Sanyassis, poor people.

Valmiki Ramayana didn;t mention about Sita's forest dwelling or the birth for Lava and Kusha. They are all fake creations. The movies such as LavaKusha brainwashed couple of generations. With the advent of Internet people are knowing the truth now.
Lord Rama sends away His pregnant wife Sita Devi to the forest due to political issues/turmoil and as a King He had to take a wise decision for His Praja (Kingdom).
However when Lord Rama sends His pregnant wife Sita Devi away to the deep forest He clearly knows that Sage/Maharishi Valmiki's Ashram was nearby. Just imagine the Divine vibrations and blessings that She, Sita Devi and Her twin babies Lava & Kusha would attain by living in Maharishi Valmiki's Ashram along with so many other Enlighten Masters. Just try to imagine once again what would be the environment and surroundings be like to grow up in such a place....
Instead of accusations, hatred, humiliation, curses and plots by Her own Praja (Kingdom). It's better to live in a more positive environment. This will not only help Her but also to ensure positive growth and safety of Her babies too.

In the eyes of society Sita was send to the forest to establish Dharma but in the eyes of Rama His wife and children are safe in Valmiki's Ashram. That is also to establish His Dharma as a good husband, father, King and God.

The Ramayana basically end with the Pattabhishekam (coronation) of Rama. The Utthara Khanda is a likely later edition, people who know the Sanskrit will tell you that it is written in a different style from the other parts of the Ramayana. This is likely why works like the Kamba Ramayanan do not have this part.

First of all, if one really identifies himself as a Hindu/Sanatana Dharmi in his heart, then one should feel ashamed at the glorification of Raavan at the expense of Lord Sri Rama. To understand the actions of Lord Sri Rama, we have to try to live exemplary life like his.
Problem with the Hindus is, they conduct all the poojas/yagnas and so on for their personal material benefit but when it comes to unite and show solidarity and fight against opposing forces, they shy away. That is the reason many invaders have conquered our lands and even now anti-national forces try to cause dissension. Only few great personalities like Netaji Subash Chandra Bose understood the real teaching of the Gita and fought for the land and the protection of it's culture, no wonder he used to keep a copy of the Gita with him always.

The self debated in my mind was why would he abduct a married lady. Then I read somewhere that he respected her and wanted to win over by pure love! Neither surpakana did care about her husband. She was okay with what happened. She is just like ravan. There is nothing like Revenge on ravan.

The shloka you told about that rava describes the beauty of mata sita is the insult of mata sita and Sanskrit language. I am thinking how anyone who know all this things about Ravana can glorify him it's just an act of stupidity. We should express our vews but before expressing our vews we should first understand both his good as well as bad qualities, not just a one quality.
The Ramayana and Mahabharata were translated by foreigners and British. Their main aim was to discredit the texts. So all leftists and intelligentsia from beginning use those as basis. There was no true version till Dr C Rajagopalachari who translated the texts from Indian point of view. By then, the damage was done.
