    Presonus recently released a line of USB-C interfaces which are very similar to their previous interfaces in the Studio Series the only difference is the change to USB-C. They also develop the Quantum line of Thunderbolt only interfaces. So while I get that USB is truly universal, USB-C is getting traction and if you look at Thunderbolt then USB-C offers a lot of potential. This mixer could be charging your laptop via Thunderbolt 3 while streaming audio.
    Again while 44.1kHz and 48kHz sample rates are used more; that is also changing since storage is becoming cheaper due to gaming and 4K content, computer processing performance is now capable of handling large sessions in 96kHz sample rates.
    I really hope Presonus will give users the option of a Thunderbolt 3 96kHz mixing consoles.
    Using the Titan Ridge controller JHL7440 a Thunderbolt 3 audio interface can auto switch between USB and Thunderbolt depending on the host.

      I’m out on thunderbolt and usb-c. At this point, the only way to essentially future proof the studio is to go with broadband of some sort. My biggest complaint with all of these interfaces over the past 10 years has been just how fast the tech moves past the interfaces. Just 5-6 years ago FireWire 400 + 800 were king, now they’re dead in the water with the interfaces unsupported or non existent. Ethernet just keeps chugging along. I’m at the point where now I’m working on upgrading everything to Dante. I just jumped headfirst into the Focusrite Rednet line with the X2P and an AM2. By the end of the year I’m looking to go even further to expand it up to possibly 64 channels via some other Dante interfaces depending on what i can figure out with the C24 or if I’m gonna ultimately just get rid of it and switch over to just artist series controllers. Tech moving at the speed it has been is getting frustrating.

      DJ Tommy II Gunz Ethernet is very limited that is why both USB and Thunderbolt became more popular. The best combination is to have Thunderbolt and AVB like MOTU does with some of their interfaces. I’m completely sold on AVB, between MOTU and Presonus I have all I need from networking audio in my studio. Ethernet is developing really slowly we are yet to see wide spread adoption of 10G. Apple very recently upgraded the iMac Pro with a 10G NIC. I wouldn’t be shocked if Ethernet joins the USB-C bandwagon. Thunderbolt 3 is the easiest way to network computers with 10G.

    Can this console be used connected to a DAW using Studio One, Pro Tools, etc. to simultaneously mix multiple tracks at once as the song is playing (real-time) when mastering as normally done in studio? Or is it just basic live mixer with only the added feature of recording the separate tracks (which is still pretty cool)?
    From what I understand the older (‘classic’) StudioLive 16.4.2 etc. models (and most other similar consoles) cannot actually be used in combination with a DAW app for the real-time simultaneous multi-track mastering and can only perform the recording stage of the process. Hence in order gain the ability to do real-time multi-track recording (using faders for at least eight individual tracks) while mastering with a DAW app requires the addition of a Presonus FaderPort 8 or 16 (or similar device). Please correct me if I am wrong or confirm if I am right. Thanks.

      At the price, yes it’s far better features than the Avid stuff..but the only issue with it is the sample rates being limited to 44.1 and 48..if it were able to do 96 at the very least, it’d be definitely worth the buy at the price for a studio. For live stuff it’s pretty much unmatched though unless you happen to like the Behringer x32 (which i really do these days)

    • @2gunzfilms425
      @2gunzfilms425 Před 5 lety

      This isn’t something that would improve your setup at all really. It’s essentially just the same thing you already have just in a different name and format.
      If you feel limited by your soundgrid system with X32, I’d recommend just simply expanding your soundgrid system with stuff like the waves server, x32 rack, etc. there’s a lot of good options there that would save you some money upgrading vs going to a completely different system.

    • @2gunzfilms425
      @2gunzfilms425 Před 5 lety

      @aveskielducut Před 5 lety

      You can get the MOTU AVB to Soundgrid Server (something like that). What I do is I run Waves Plugins through Studio One and I assign my inputs on my StudioLive to USB Input so that I could load various plugins per track.

    • @BeatsAndMeats
      @BeatsAndMeats Před 5 lety

      The X32 was designed as a live mixer that just so happens to work as a recording desk. But everyone uses it as a recording desk, so Behringer had to update the firmware to do what people wanted it to do. This Presonus product was made with the intention that many people would use it just as a recording desk, so you won't have to find as many workarounds as you do with the X32. That being said, I love my X32.

      I don’t fully understand this comment. When you turn on daw mode, the mixer is still fully engaged. If you’re running audio thru the mixer, you can use the plugins in conjunction with the daw. So instead of using fat channel processing in S1 4, you choose it from the board. Or, you can run them both simultaneously.

      @@richiefamus8778 I think they are talking about functionality like eg. the Universal Audio Interface Gear with integrated DSPs for the native plugins. It seems to me that with the nature of how AVB i/o works, you should be able to easily use an outboard plugin solution. I wouldn't rule it completely out. Either way, If you have a laptop running a DAW with plugins, you could rout through it live assuming that the latency is correctable.

I love studio one and my studio live 32. Protools is a thing of the past unless they do an all around update it will soon be forgotten. The only reason its the “industry standard” is because it used to be the only good daw available but now with so many better daws and the ability to record at someones house and not having to go to a huge recording studio i dont see protools making it another 5-10 years without an update and they discontinued there c|24 as well as a bunch of other products so i dont see an update coming
