MCR24 EP-02 - Failed 40k Tempo Run & U-Gels

  • It should have been easy... So following on from the last video (track workout) today is the attempted 40k Long Run initially as Tempo, but later we will build that the threshold. It does not go to plan today - you'll see in the video. Training Log update included in the video too.

    Hey Matt, not every run goes according to plan, and looking at the bigger picture, your training is progressing well so soon after Valencia! Keep up the great work!

      Thanks Reto, not every bit of filming goes to plan either 😂 It's a good few days on now and the hips improving alot. But its good to share the highs and lows of our training too. But yes we're are progressing 😁

      Thanks Kenny, the hips doing well, been working on it everyday and seeing the improvement getting closer to normal. Haha, I know April's nearly here 😂 Noticed your Strava trainings looking good, so good to see you soldiering on through winter 👍

      @@RunThePlanet I got some good mileage yesterday at some good pace. I need to get a proper fuelling strategy as I never know when to take gels etc. I'll maybe try every 40 mins and see how that works.

      @@kennyosborne5835 sounds like a good plan. I guess its an individual thing nutrition. I used to take one every 8k, then got comfortable at every 6k, I tried every 5k in Valencia, but that might have been too much for me. And then we have different brands to consider. Too much to workout, still not sure I have it quite right 😂 If it's a long slow one I tend to start taking them much later and less off, sometimes non

      @@RunThePlanet My non-scientific approach is to take the brand that they provide. Edinburgh was High 5. London is Lucozade so I'm ordering them to get use to it. I can't cope with that much choice. You seem to try every gel they make! That would stress me out too much!😂

    Great training! How are you finding the volume? Your training log on screen looks to be approx 115km for the week if I've added that up correctly?

      Thanks Khristofu it's actually a bit less, more like around 90km a week and it will be up to about 100 some weeks. It's okay around 80 to 90 km is where I like to train in a block. So far it's manageable but it's early days. Last block was 4 speed sessions over 2 week's, this time it's 3, so I should be able to handle more aerobic volume, let's see 🤔🧐 Hope your trainings going well, what are you training for at the moment ?

      @RunThePlanet nice! I'm also doing Manchester this year, treating it as my B race with Chicago in October as my A 🏁. Targeting a sub 2:50 for that and we'll see how close I can get to it at Manchester. More just to dial in and see where fitness is. Platform for Chi mara.

      @@Khristofu 2:50 wow 😲 but you'll done fine in Manchester im sure. 3rd time for me. My fastest course in the UK. If you haven't run it before, your in for a treat , I think it's great.
