    I really enjoyed this video. For me, this video is an intro to color theory and a tutorial for color swatching. The Chinese to English translation file for the Brutfuners is a treasure and much appreciated!

    I'm only a few minutes into the video, but I actually love the packaging on the Brutfuner. I love the simple black with the name on them. :)

    I like How you placed pencil POINTS into the center in your cases
    ... I Learned The HARD WAY..My leads where breaking when I put them back in points pointing outward..I hope that makes sense. I've not seen anyone mentioning this.. I appreciate you liking the Brutfurners..🤟❣🙏

    I love, luv, lov, videos where sets of color pencils are compared to one another.
    One I would love to see is an in depth comparison of Kalour to the brutfuner sets that are round barrels and solid color (not the black barrels.)

    Maybe you could just double side tape the tin wrap on the top of tin so you could still see it but not have to fight with removing it everytime?

    Hi, Pamela….loved this video! I just recently thinned out my colored pencil collection and gave many sets to the Veterans Home near my house, together with some coloring books. One of the first sets I parted with were the Star Joys! For some reason, I just never really cared for them, I know what you said about matching pencils to coloring books but I have a lot of Bassford ans Eriy books and just didn’t like them in those books.

    I just got my Brutfunner square 120 set, I am working on the swatches, I don’t think they are quite a faber polychromos but close. After watching this, I really want the Star Joy too.

    • @PamelasPassionforPencils
      @PamelasPassionforPencils  Před 2 lety +1

      They're definitely not a Polychromos, but for those of us that don't want to spend that kind of money, these are a close second at a great price. Both sets are great for beginners that just want to try out this hobby and make sure they'll stick to it before going out and buying those expensive sets of pencils. Have a great day. ❤

    One of the most challenging things to determine when watching a CZcams colored pencil review, is determining the richness of the pigment. How much pressure is being used to get the color shown on the paper during color tests? My initial opinion of both is that they don’t lay color down well. They didn’t seem to blend well or be very pigmented in their lightest areas, but I know other factors could affect that. It seemed like maybe a lot of pressure was needed to get the darker parts of the swatches, but… I can’t know really unless I try them in person. Brutfuners seems to be pretty popular because of their price. I assume they have to be a step up from Crayola quality for people to take notice.

    • @polarbearhero9803
      @polarbearhero9803 Před 3 lety +2

      But being an oil based pencil, shouldn’t the Star Joy need a heavy hand? It’s not a soft opaque wax pencil. They should require many light layers to get heavy pigmentation. That’s why I’m considering buying a set. I’ve only colored with soft wax pencils up to now but want to give the oil a try. I know true oil pencils have a learning curve. Problem is many of the “oily” Chinese pencils are soft and more akin to wax pencils than the very hard (and very expensive) Polychromous oil pencils.

      I wish there was a way to buy samples of pencils, without committing to a full set, even if cheap. Only higher end pencils have open stock.

    • @didilarson1031
      @didilarson1031 Před 2 lety

      I am surprised to hear you saying that neither played down color well. I find that the Brutfuners lay down extremely well with very little pressure for almost all the pencils. I bought two sets of the Brutfuners because of how impressed I was with the pigmentation and smoothness of coloring (and don't want to run out with the colors I use the most). I do not own the StarJoy yet, so I can't compare. The Brutfuner Square pencils are absolutely wonderful for my hand issues as well.

  • @Oozaru85

    The Brutfuner 120 Square are still available on Amazon. I tested them and noticed that the color names on the barrels aren't chinese anymore, but english. Now I'm not sure, if they really are still the same pencils as the old ones. They do feel more creamy than my 160 Brutfuner Round tho. So let's hope they didn't change the composition of the leads n that current 120 set. Since the pigmentation seems to be the same as my 160 set, they just feel more creamy and less dry.

    • @PamelasPassionforPencils
      @PamelasPassionforPencils  Před 3 lety +1

      The only other one would be to use an electric sharpener. I can’t think of a manual one that you could use just one hand. Maybe someone could recommend an electric sharpener for you if they see your comment. You can also ask on my Facebook group. I know a lot of colorists use the Agnatha electric sharpener though. I’m pretty sure it’s this one. I don’t usually use them but was thinking about reviewing this one. amzn.to/3kxIGTF
