Would you rather was so much better than I expected. But that ending broke my heart 😩
YES
I saw Ricky from trailer park boys in it and I lost it
I dug that one. I was impressed that they went the route they did
Yo same I stumbled on that movie and it hurt my soul
The only bad thing about that movie is the acting can be a little…. huh. And there’s kind of a cheap quality to it. At times. If it were a little more polished it’d be perfect for its simplicity.
A sort of similar one is The Platform. It's got multiple "players," survival, and problem solving. It scratches that same itch.
love that one
Was about to comment dis loved the platform it def scratch a typa itch
Classic board games I'd like to see as horror movies:
3. Hungry Hungry Hippos. It would be like Jaws but with hippos.
2. Sorry. A Battle Royale style adaptation where contestants try to get to the finish line by any means necessary.
1. Chutes and Ladders. It will be the first of a new genre called "Plyground Horror
yes to all of these
Risk. Oh, wait, that's already real-life.
Bring on the Hippos!!!
A horror movie based on Monopoly! Oh wait, that’s just exactly what capitalism is 🥲
I would watch playground horror!! Any recs for that?! 😂 other than squid game
Not a horror movie but Alice in Borderland on Netflix is incredible and although I've not seen Battle Royale from what I've heard it has that kind of a vibe with people being trapped in an alternate version of Tokyo where most people have disappeared and they have to play games based on a deck of cards to stay alive with the games always being deadly and with some only allowing one winner. It's one of the best shows I've seen in a while and is a constant rewatch for me :)
It was pretty good, though we didn't get any answers really by the end of the first season, but then "Squid Games" came out LOL
@@NyneIX9there is season 2 out on netflix. I love it!!!!
Would you Rather is such a hidden gem. I found it on Netflix horror one day and was surprised at how good it was.
We need a Jumanji-like horror movie. I think that would be cool!!
Ngl when I was a little kid that movie scared me so much!
Yes!
Someone else commented recommending a movie named The Black Waters of Echo’s Pond. I can’t attest to the quality but it sounds pretty close to having a Jumanji-like horror movie as wanted
open graves! it's a horror movie with a cursed board game like jumanji
Yessssss!!!
"By the god's will" AKA the og squidgame is by far my favorite game based horror movie.
THANK YOU for talking about Circle, it's a hidden gem and I watched it dozens of times
Also I would add Kadaver, the game being a theatrical performance where the spectators are hunted by the performers without really realising it
Ready or Not and The Hunt are two of my absolute faves! The Hunt is most definitely underrated and it is fantastic.
I know the list is just 15 but lets continue
Alice in Borderland (netflix)
The paintball (2009)
As the Gods will (2014)
Kaiji (2009)
Funhouse (2019)
Death Bell (2008)
Kings Game (2011)
Judge (2013)
Zero (2018)
Die Now (2017 - 2018)
No Escape (2015)
The Bunker Game (2022)
Octogames (2022)
Animal World (2018)
The werewolf game (2013 -->)
The werewolf game movie pentalogy series, sadly it has only Japanese voice acting so subtitles are needed
It is like town of Salem you can play on PC or something like that but deadly with fewer roles simpler but yet great.
there are shared movies with the name but you need to seek a japanese movie with highschoolers
Werewolf game villager side, the beast side, crazy fox......
Some more movies shared, some are American , some Japanese and some Korean production
THANK YOU!! This is my fav horror sub genre ♡
As the gods will is fantastic. My favorite horror manga.
Actually the "I want to play a game" phrase and the Jigsaw Killer concept was first introduced in Yugioh manga (1996)
love this genreee!!! circle, nerve, belko experiment, would you rather and escape room are some of my horror comfort movies
I agree!!
Belko is so underrated.
Circle was wonderful.
I misread this title and thought you were reccing horror video games 😭 But! I love this trope and Escape Room is so visually fun
Same, hope she does that one day ❤
I thought it was horror games too 😂😂 was so confused when she started talking about movies lol. I should’ve known
@@taylahcooper8174 I know she's talked about Layers of Fear before so my brain just started jumping to conclusions lol
Recently saw The Blackening and that movie would be a great fit for game themed horror movies
I didn't like it personally but yes it would fit in there, as a comedy horror game.
Agreed. I appreciate that the plot was simple and doesn't try to be anything it's not.
But overall, it was underwhelming.
@@onescomplement I agree
Be careful when looking this up; make sure safe-search is active. 😒
I had fun with this one in theaters!
Thank you for including Battle Royale 🙏 for some reason (probably because it isn’t strictly horror) horror channels on here usually neglect to mention it. I also find it weird because I remember it being a big deal in the early 2000s- but now it has kinda faded into obscurity despite that “battle royale games” are extremely popular right now.
Huh? 🤨 It's been mentioned by a million YT channels, especially because of all the stuff it influenced. Likewise, _The Hunt_ did NOT fly under the radar like Sarah said, it made the mainstream news because of all of the controversy about politics.
This movie is by far still my favorite foreign movie. I still remember being 12 and reading the subtitles all the way through to my siblings because that was they only way they'd agree to watch it with me. 😭
So … lemme just tell you that this hairstyle on you looks AMAZING, girl! ❤
ah thank you!
I thought the same thing when she posted the thumbnail on Insta yesterday! Was so excited to see it in action lol
Very adorable ❤
I'm such a sucker for this subgenre, it's just so damn entertaining! Had seen plenty of these, but I def got some new entries for my watchlist, so thank you! (and you just gave me the push I needed to finally watch Would You Rather, who's been sitting in my watchlist since forever lmao, gonna watch it tonight!)
Absolutely my favorite genre of movies! Cube is amazing, Cube 2 is garbage but Cube 0 is a MUST see after Cube!!
Another one I'd recommend that could come close is The Platform.
I always tell people this. I wish Hypercube didn't exist haha
@@mikeywong5749 It was so bad on every level, haha!
That hairstyle looks amazing on you❤️
Ah, Battle Royale! Incredible how big that film was two decades ago. It was kind of the Parasite of its day - introducing lots and lots of people to Asian popular culture.
ooo how did you know i love game horror movies, i’ve seen most of these already but i love them, such a fun genre to me
also i actually kind of liked the sequel of escape room tbh, i didn’t think it was that bad 😭
surviving the game with rutger hauer and ice t. it's a retelling of 'the most dangerous game' short story.
A recommendation of a horror game movie is The Black Waters of Echo’s Pond. It is a board game movie with demonic possession. It is cheesy, fun and interesting, so that is my recommendation. I have seen Truth or Dare, and I thought it was cool.
Guns Akimbo with Daniel Radcliffe is really good. Not horror, but most definitely gory and fun! Also Brainscan is a 1994 horror movie with a a game in it.
Guns Akimbo is WILD lmao
Love the barbarian bottle ❤️really entering a mother era
👩👧🤰💕
I remember watching The Belko Experiment for the very first time. I was hooked right from the beginning! I do wonder if they are ever going to make a sequel
Okay so I LOVE Stay Alive! Easy to watch, fun characters, Sofia Bush(one tree hill memory lane) and Jimmi Simpson , poser-ish aesthetics, some goth elements and the cheesy feeling of the early 2000s!
What more can a girl ask for
Out of the list, "Circle" was the one that caught me off guard the most. While "Squid Game" could have been an honorable mention, there are now other television/streaming shows that also delve into horror through games, such as "Alice In Borderland." While not a horror movie, "The Game," starring Michael Douglas and Sean Penn and directed by David Fincher, is a worthy addition that should have been included on this list.
Back in the days, my parents strictly forbade me to approach anything that looked too close to horror to them. Excepted "Battle Royale", that I took right after my dad discovered it. I loved this movie so much and couldn't stop watching it, until my parents decided it was too close to horror and forbade me to watch this one, too 😂
Oh no!😭 My dad introduced me to horror and took me to theaters to see them. And we watched them on tv too. My mom didn't want me to see "those movies" but my dad took me anyway. But at night I would go to sleep with mom and dad lol! By 13 I was going to see horror movies in theaters alone.🤔
one of my favourites is called The Game (1997) staring michael douglas, its more of a thriller than a horror movie though. SUPER great, amazing cting with a good twist.
This is why I'm subscribed to you. You do the most unique categories i've ever seen someone do and THIS is one i've been looking for!!! ❤
Fantastic recommendations - already watched most of them due to previous recommendations yours, but this is truly one of my favourite sub-genres in horror!
OMG been hoping you'd post a video like this for SO long. I love Cube and Exam, had never heard of Meander, will have to check it out, thanks. I'd definitely recommend Fermat's Room, Mindhunters, Unknown...
Your lists are always so helpful! Thanks Sarah! 😁
These are great recommendations, keep up the fun videos! I particularly like Ready Or Not and The Cube.❤
I love this video so much and wished it was longer with even more recommendations as I love this sub genre a lot 😁
Excited to have some more recommendations of these genre! I’ve seen the majority of the movies on this list and they are some of my favourites, and the most rewatchable and entertaining for me
Thank you for this list!!! Been waiting ❤
Yesss. Nerve is a comfort movie at this point for me. Also was one of those where I saw it the first time and was like “hmm”. Not totally sold. Until I kept thinking about it and craving to watch it.
this is one of my favorite sub genres of horror, so i was delighted that you covered it
I recommend David Fincher's 1997 film the Game. Its about this wealthy investment banker who participates in this game that integrates with his life. Which hints at larger conspiracy when the lines between his life and the game becomes more uncertain.
... wow, I guess I really am a fan of this sub genre. Of all the movies I only havent seen three of them and heard of two of those three. Meander was the only one Ive never heard of! But all three are going on my watchlist now, haha.
I thought I'd seen almost all the movies of this type so thanks for the Meander and Exam recommendations can't wait to watch them! Also thanks for including Truth or Dare, it's so cheesy and bad but I just LOVE it for some reason it's such a comfort watch for me I've seen it more times than I'm willing to admit lol
These last few videos, esp the horror moms one, have been so so good! I love this type of content from you, I always find something new to watch and you almost never lead me astray 🖤
The Hunt is the only proof I need that Betty Gilpin needs to have a horror/action franchise created just for her
Love that 4K director's cut of Midsommar you have in the background! I have that one too it's honestly one of the most beautiful films I've ever seen in 4K
i just recently started watching your channel i love your videos and your tier list aswell keep up the awesome work!!!
So happy to hear you talk about my favourite movie of all time, Exam!!! So underrated and always have such a good time with that one. I've forced every single person in my life to watch this movie since I first saw it and no one ever guessed the 'question' and the twists are so fun. Love it love it love it!!!!
Thank you for making this list!! I love that subgenre, in horror movies and books too 🤩 My heart was racing so fast when I watched Escape Room, I loved it!
Thank you thank you thank you for this video. I didn’t know I needed this topic till you posted it yay, I def neeed to check out the hunt
Love someone else giving Meander attention, it was a GEM I stumbled upon and I couldn’t stop thinking about it
i love this subgenre of horror, haven't heard of Meander and Stay Alive i must check out. Circle is one of my fave movie of all time, Belko and Cube are up there too. I would recommend 9 Dead, kind of similar to Saw, Belko and Circle.
I always get Nine Dead and House Of Nine confused haha
@@mikeywong5749 ooh ill have to check that one out
Ahh just came from watching your horror moms tier list. Never been so early to one of your videos! Excited for this one!
Great list I love these types of movies. Kinda sad u didn't include 1997's "The Game". Also, its a series not a movie but "Squid Game" fits this list perfectly.
Love these recommendations, I forgot some of them were on my list to watch
Glad to see Cube called out. I think it was the second one that was my favorite of the series.
Great list idea. A few I really want to see !!
The concept of "battle to the death" is thousands of years old.
In terms of a futuristic fictional story about it, Stephen King's The Running Man & the movie adapted from it came about 2 decades before Battle Royale.
And I believe Hunger Games' Suzanne Collins when she says she had never heard of Battle Royale when she wrote the HG books.
I LOVED The Hunt, I'm sad it didn't get much buzz. I can't decide if it's more like White Lotus or Succession as a horror movie.
I feel like lots of people heard about it. It was even banned for some time.
thank you thank you for uploading this when i was craving a good horror movie to watch
this is one of my top subgenres so thank you for the recommendations!!
I really need an Escape Room 3 that’s a sequel to the alternate cut of the 2nd movie
Squid game is really good. It’s not a movie but they’re all basically trapped together and they have to do very violent games in order to live but if they fail they die. And it’s all for money too. They’re told that whoever wins will win lots of money. It’s such a good show
Somehow I haven't heard anything on The Hunt but it sounds right up my alley. Definitely added to my watchlist.
Just wanted to say I love your channel especially because we have a lot of similar tastes. The Ring is one of my favorite horror movies along with Thirteen Ghosts (more of a guilty pleasure horror) and is the movie that got me into horror. Also, you recommended Gonjiam Haunted Asylum and Triangle and I fell in love with both of them. Pretty sure I told everyone I know to watch these and wouldn't stop talking about them.
Nerve and Running Man... Never thought about it this way before but I think it's pretty accurate comparison.
As for Truth or Dare I highly recommend british movie with the same title that came out in 2011.
The Running Man.
Good one 👍
So many good recs on this list, especially Ready or Not and Escape Room! I’ll have to check out Meander
GAAAH I love all of these!
The ending of Would You Rather *infuriated* me! Like, I liked the movie, but geez louise!
OMG Meander was so good!!!
Never seen Stay Alive but there are some big stars in that, I'm gonna have to give it a watch!
Exam is so interesting too! Great picks all around!
YES! THE HUNT IS SO GOOD!! Ty for putting this up there
I've seen all of these except Meander, and I will definitely check that out cause I love all of these.
I've only seen it once but I remember also really liking the other Truth or Dare from 2017.
I was kind of hoping and expecting to see this Truth or dare version in this video. I also though it was really good and it deserves more credit!
I love how your videos are easy to consume ✨
Great list! Love Meander, too. I'll have to check out The Hunt, The Circle, and perhaps Exam.
I'd add Cheap Thrills (2013). Pat Healy is pretty great and increasingly unhinged in that one.
Horror games are some of my favorite types of movies. good list here hun :) Oh, and what is that lipstick you're wearing?? It's really gorgeous.
I just watched The Hunt based on your rec and omg I looooooooved it!!!
Great recommendations! I've seen most of these movies and really liked them. I've never heard of Meander - so I'll definitely be checking that out. Exam is a treasure!
One severely 2000s movie that I cannot believe you’ve never seen, staring the one and only Melissa Joan Hart… Nine Dead. From 2009….
It’s …. Not great. But 9 strangers wake up and have to figure out their connection to each other but each 10 minutes, someone must die.
VERY 2000s.
Love the channel gurl keep it up ❤️❤️❤️
stay alive is one of my favorites It's so nostalgic for some reason even though I was born in the year 2000 and I didn't grew up watching it
Great list! Horror games truly is one of the best tropes ever.
Judging by this list, this is one of my fav types of horror movies, just didn't realize it I guess!
Thanks again for the amazing videos!
Would you consider doing a list recommending movies based off Black Mirror episodes? I know you've recommended sci-fi horror before, but I love your recommendation lists. I love this video, thank you for the recommendations ❤
Love this idea!!
The Hunt is easily one of the best movies of recent years.
Beyond the Gates (2016) is also a great game-related horror film. About two brothers who find an old VHS Board Game that is cursed and they have to play to survive.
Stay alive is one of my favorite horror films 😆🤞🏽
it’s genuinely SO good
Really enjoyed it too.
It's pretty underrated imo. As a teen this was actually one of the first of this type (I'd only watched slashers or creature features so far)of horror movies I'd seen. It genuinely scared me quite a bit, I had trouble sleeping for a couple days.
Cube is my absolute favorite horror movie, glad to see it get some love here.
I love these types of horror movies! One movie not mentioned that maybe-can-be-should've been here is 2009's THE KILLING ROOM? But maybe I'm remembering that movie's plot incorrectly but I'm sure it had the same elements.
So I just watched Meander on your recommendation! It was very good!!
Our horror interests align so well I wish we could be friends lol I don't have any fellow girl friends that are into these movies, so I LIVE for your videos. Love all these recs
Edit: i love House on Haunted Hill (1959) which i think the 1999 movie is based on. A great old horror movie if anyone likes that!
Oh no! I'm lucky that recently I met this young woman who's a big horror fan. But she only streams and owns nothing. I'm the other way around I don't stream and have a huge horror movies collection on VHS, DVD, Blu-Ray and 4Ks. So I already asked her to get together to watch some movies either streaming or from my collection. It would be a horror date lol!😃
@hectormontalvo5565 awwww that's so cute!!!!! What a perfect horror match lol
@@michete I hope this similarity leads to a good relation!🙏
I'm really happy you included Ouija on the list! I full recognize that it is not a good movie, but it's one of those I put on when I need some mindless entertainment and don't want to watch something new.
The Hunt is the last movie I saw before lock down. It was so much fun! Definitely underrated
So glad you brought up the hunt and haunted hill (1999) two of my fav horror jaunts :3 literally bought the hunt on dvd as soon as I could because of the opening leaking on CZcams and I literally rented house on haunted hill so much my local video store just gave me the vhs XD
I would add “Series 7 The Contenders” to this list. It came out shortly before reality tv really took off in popular culture so it was a little ahead of its time.
I was so excited to watch this video for new recommendations bc this genre is one of my favorites, and then watched and I’ve seen every movie on here 😢
I'm realizing this is so my genre because I've seen all but 3 of these, excited to watch the three I haven't though!
omgg love the idea idea! I LOVE deathgames, there's so many creative ones, especially asian ones
Okay so this is my absolute favorite subgenre of horror. I’ve seen all of these, but would love to hear if anyone in the comments has more to add! Also, Sarah thanks so much for making this video, ily ❤❤❤
this is my fav genre. I never see anyone talk about "Killing Game" I watched it when I was like 13 but I remember liking it back then
When I think moves like saw I immediately think of Nine Dead (2010) i don't ever hear anyone talking about it. It's so cool I genuinely love it. The deaths aren't as gruesome but I love how they have to figure out why they're there or die. It's kinda like a game kinda not but very cool movie.
I loved the cube series. It's what got me into the genre as a kid. I had no supervision as I lived in a hospital moat the time
Love your t-shirt here! Where’d ya get it? Also: another fun video. Thanks for that
Would You Rather broke me, honestly lol. I walked into it expecting a B-rated fun flick I could put on while I clean. Then I was so invested. And then I was heartbroken in the worst way like WHAT? Awesome list!
Cheap Thrills (2013) is a good companion to Would You Rather. I need to check out Meander I missed that one. Btw, your hair look this video is 🔥
Ready or Not is one of the best horror movies ever and one of my favorite movies. The acting, the humor/writing, gore, etc is all amazing.
These are my favorite types of horror movies! I've seen several of these
