I used MTN (prepaid) for years outside SA. I just needed to make a call every 3 months to keep it active. I would 100% recommend it for roaming.

Eish Askies 🙃 and calls are expensive. From now on just top up at least every two months. Maybe mine has stayed active because I have that text from the bank that I have to respond to every month and that alone one a whole R10.

Been out of sync for a while. New job and all. This was an amazing video, a colleague went abroad and he didn’t most of these things and had to fly back after 3 weeks. It was expensive. Other things to add as well will be deciding on what to do with your car if you own one, plan around paying your dues and visits if you are co-parenting, …. Imagine having to fly back just after 3 weeks, thank you for adding the car part, I couldn’t say much about that because I’ve never had a car, I’ve heard some people say they’ve sold theirs or just parked it at home, hopefully someone with a car will add to the comment.
Co- patenting is a big one too, it would be great to hear different perspectives on how people have worked that one out.

It’s taxing trying to perfect a good blog or prepare a good presentation. So yeah, the hustle if hard but rewarding

How do get your legalised and notarised certificates back? Did you ask for them back from the school you sent them to or did they send them back to SA before you left for China?
You just ask your employer to give them back once you’ve provided them for their use. I got them back from my school here in China.

Sending money home is not easy, maybe it’s easier in other countries but in China, it requires a lot of paper work 🫠

A tax number can be attained via the SARS efilling
You can get your Tax number online. I just like sorting things out ahead of time just in case I need to visit an office or make calls.

Hey Tisa, thank you for this information. I have a question regarding getting a bond in South Africa with a foreign income. Did you have to pay 40% or more deposit of the purchase price of the property? If not, how did you manage your foreign income in South Africa to not have to pay more a large deposit?
Hey Alex, most banks have a policy on what percentage of the requested bond amount they approve for South Africans abroad it ranges between 70-80% in some instances 100% can be granted. You just need to apply at different banks and see how much gets approved.
@@chatwithtisa this is true,I received 100% with the red bank even though I have foreign income. My own bank (green bank) was offering me 100% bond with a different rate and SA home loan was offering me 80% bond.
Best to make sure as much as possible credit score and financial affairs are as good as possible so you can motivate but at the end of the day the decision is theirs.

True I’ve also had banking app issue where I needed to download it again...I emailed capitec and they asked for ID verification via video call .

A bank where you don’t need to go to a branch to active their app. A bank where your monthly fees are low because you’ll mainly just use their app and maybe withdraw abroad on a few occasions.

I’m so stressed I never prepared for anything, I thought I’d be in the US for a year and go back home, now I’m stuck not knowing where to start🥴

3 months later, how are things going?
8 months later I now have access to my banking app, I emailed my bank and they helped me resolve my issue, did a few security checks and that was it.
At least I have that one thing sorted out.
