It’s honestly incredibly sad that the front page is filled with games that lack gameplay at all. Sols RNG, or what I like to call, Soulless RNG, has ZERO gameplay. The fact that people destroy their electricity bill just for some stupid name tag. Anime games are pretty cool, but I’m not a big fan of anime games. They usually take LOTS of grinding. And well, grinding just isn’t fun. Some games are just exploring some big map which also isn’t even interesting. Games these days aren’t as good as before.

Got a good game that really cost some skills to play: Arcane Odyssey. Arcane odyssey is a RPG/adventure game where you have magic or use fighting skills or master the swordsman. You wake as on a island and decide to explore the island. Then you find that you whole memory is gone. While you sailing to a small town further it has been raided by Jaw pirates. After defeating the Jaw pirates you go to sleep and wake up next morning whit a quest to defeat magic user in the southern jaws. When you arrived at the southern jaws you have to defeat your first boss. After you defeated that boss you return to the small town and the next thing you want to do is go to a other island and this is where the adventure starts. Choose the path and be a hero to have order in the cursed seas or be a villian and bring chaos to the world and seek power! the adventure is yours in arcane odyssey.

Creatures of Sonaria is a prime example of the “popular games”. It used to be a good game, with a lot less predatory tactics. But as the game got larger, it just started going downhill at a rapid pace. It was (and still is, to an extent) one of my favorite games on Roblox, and it saddens me how it has deteriorated to this grinding slop.
However, the most recent event had been a lot better than previous ones (not as grindy), and I’ll say it is one of the less gambling-prone popular games. They aren’t focusing on the gachas as much, which is the gambling mechanic, and have been adding fewer new creatures every week. Although it won’t be a good as it used to be, maybe it’ll get a little better.
AND THIS IS WHY I WANT TO LEARN HOW TO CODE. I so want to make my own game with no predatory tactics and that just focuses on fun. But it’s hard to find a good, up-to-date coding tutorial series! Does anyone know any?
Edit: LOL this is the largest amount of likes and comments I have ever gotten. Thanks!
Edit: Since It feels like some people want to know what my idea is, it’s basically a game similar to CoS; Creature survival. BUT, it would have extensive lore you can uncover and unique missions to complete in order to unlock more creatures and items in general. Also, BOSSES and AI! Ngl, I feel like CoS would be a lot better if they re-added the AI creatures and made actually interesting bosses that are available year-round. I would also attempt a more hardcore seasons system, one that actually changes gameplay.

I feel like Slap Battles does really well in balancing quality game design with the tactics used to hook players that were described in this video. It has a lot of AFKability with certain gloves being very AFKable and sometimes being practically required to AFK to get (Bob, Fish, Voodo, etc.) but it still has great mechanics and is a quality game, plus it still makes you earn those AFKable gloves because a lot of them require you to put yourself in a vulnerable position where you can be griefed by other players. And you still have to earn the gloves that you use to get those AFKable ones.

It takes so much time to actually progress at all (but that’s not a bad thing). I feel like there are also some commonly overlooked reason why people flock to the popular games.
Generally speaking, unpopular games either don't update often enough, they lack replayability/post game content, aren't beginner friendly/steep learning curve, they graphically look bad/outdated/too minimalistic, or (this is the biggest pet peeve of mine) they force you to use their character/avatar appearance.

I spent $160 on blox fruits in one day. Not saying this to brag, because I regretted it immediately. I don't even play that game as much as I do other games. All for some permanent fruits that a friend said I should buy. So I bought them, then grinded to the final sea where my friends were. That game is so boring. You sit there clicking the same buttons over and over. Completing the same missions over and over. The same could be said for most games on roblox today.

Former & Current (and probably going to retire soon) (edit: not anymore, retired around May 5th) Sol’s RNG community and game translator here
I translate stuffs for them but I do not play Sol’s RNG. Or maybe I should say, I also used to have this Sol’s RNG addiction phase for a little. That’s probably why I put an end to playing that game. I was first invited to the Sol’s RNG discord server back in this year January, when the game was small but fast growing, to translate the community rules in Korean into English. I have sort of already knew about this game because it appeared at my “Friends playing” list on the roblox home and I had some connections with several developers and community managers, which is also the reason how I could work as a translator there. I still clearly remember my first impression in discovering this game, and I have instantly realized that something was terribly wrong. I still remember how startled and disappointed I was to discover the fact that the whole and sole purpose of this game is to just stand in whatever spot around the map, press the roll button, and just wait until a rare aura appears which doesn’t even give any benefits except its appearance. I have already knew that playing this game meant spending my precious time for some data scraps that doesn’t exist physically and only appears cool on the monitor. So I thought I would never play that game. Yet I did. And got addicted for a while. You would be so shocked how easily you could get addicted in that game, even besides the fact that I already had some addiction issues before. I was so addicted around that time in seeing the aura appear effect and collecting the auras that the moment before I stopped playing it I remember having around 8k rolls. The actual time I spent looking at the monitor would be shorter because of the use of macro and the built-in auto roll later in the update, but still I knew that I was addicted. I was craving for more and more dopamine rush, and it started to sort of affect my in-real-life routines. After realizing the severity of my state apart from my other in-real-life issues I was going through, I decided to put the end in all this by quitting Sol’s RNG and my job as a translator there along with other discord communities, so I could focus more on my real life. Basically went out to touch grass. It didn’t take long for me to return back to the Sol’s RNG discord server to do translation jobs again, because I have somewhat resolved my in-real-life issues. I have returned back to Sol’s RNG discord server, but NOT the game, around March to translate some game setting descriptions and the quest dialogues for the NPC called Lime. I never even bothered to open Sol’s RNG ever after when I quitted, even when I was and am working on the translation before and now. I can’t really say my addiction issues are gone, but I am still working on to fix it. Addiction IS a disease, especially when you also have some flaws or defects to your brain, which everyone slightly has it in some way. It would be sometimes extremely hard to fix it, but trust me. It is treatable. If you want to know more about addiction I recommend reading a book called “The Addiction Solution” by David Kipper. It may be a little outdated but the basic frame is same as what I said above. Addiction IS a disease.
P.S. I started playing when auto roll was not a thing, and I started using macro way later on.
edit: I do not really blame the devs for Sol's RNG. I know some devs there from working with other projects previously and I know they were not ready to have Sol's RNG get this popular. The devs there are the same young adults like me and they are not in some big game company. That being said, Sol's RNG was not "planned" or "built" to purposely attract millions of players with highly addictive gameplay when it was first developed. I assume they were simply unaware of what would come afterwards when they first created Sol's RNG, as they might've simply trying to create a fun luck-based simulator game. I do not really know the details. Anyways, I believe generally for any popular games it's completely reasonable for the devs to continue developing the game since realistically you cannot really give up a popular project simply because of it's controversies. Some people are actually enjoying Sol's RNG without really finding any problems with their gameplay (which I personally don't believe) and I believe the devs didn't have a lot of choice but to keep bringing new contents to make the players to keep playing the game since they simply wanted them to have fun and wouldn't want them to be disappointed. Every devs have at least some pressures coming from their player base. Now the reason why Sol's RNG is so controversial would be their highly addictive and almost 0 gameplay feature, which is the biggest homework left for the devs of Sol's RNG to solve. I believe the devs should acknowledge more on how the gameplay for their game is like and try to prevent the players being too addicted, such as adding a daily roll limit or something. They should really come up with some creative ways to make their games less addictive.
It's ironic how games are meant to be addictive but also carries this burden to be less addictive.
For those who are lazy or hopefully just simply too busy to read this, here I have the entire text summarized with ChatGPT:
I worked as a translator for Sol's RNG, a Roblox game, and became briefly addicted despite my initial skepticism about its simplistic and highly addictive nature. The game involves players standing in a spot, pressing a roll button, and waiting for rare auras with no real benefits. I quit due to the negative impact on my life but returned to translate without playing. Addiction is a disease, and it's crucial to recognize and address it. I don't blame the developers, as they likely didn't anticipate the game's popularity and its addictive potential. They should consider adding features to reduce addiction, like daily roll limits. Games are meant to be engaging, but they also need to manage their addictive aspects responsibly.
Now please, stop commenting with your complaints of you can't read them all.
I am open with feedbacks but, please know that I didn't write this comment to be pinned nor to receive these excessive amount of comments about complaining or arguing each other.
It's a pain to receive all these notifications.
    I have my own life.

It must've been hard to leave your discord jobs for a while and the community also. I feel you, i'm also struggling with the addiction of playing something (Roblox or whatever game), i have that feeling that i must play something to gain myself satisfaction. when i do (play some crap game for hours), i don't get the satisfaction i want, and i start to realize how i've wasted my time playing all this crap instead of doing better activities like i used to do (workout, house work). Man... i got to the point where i'm lazy to even get out of bed. The first thing i do in the morning is to check my messages (not even messages from real ppl, just game based stuff like Clash of Clans, i got so addicted to that game that i got into Legend League basically top 2000 in my country in like 2 weeks. So i wake up, and i have two thoughts in my mind... sleep more or play this crappy game for farming loot even tho i have enough for the future upgrades, and ofc i end up playing that game for like 2-3 hours when i could've slept and get to work right after.

Then I die because he decided to not target those 500k hp minibosses at the front.. I came back to the game a few months ago and the king still has the same problem…

    Imagine this:
You may choose to either play the first game or the second, both about mathematic
The first game only require addition and multiplication skill, and you get coin easily.
But the second? There's no such thing as currency here, there are only badges and achievements.
Furthermore, to be good at the second game, you actually have to learn mathematic and spend time in it. The game guide and encourage you to learn about things such as functions, domain and range of functions, geometric constructions and proofs, derivitive and integration in calculus, linear algebra, introduction to real analysis, number theory, groups, rings, and fields, algebraic system(or galois theory) functional analysis, topology and metric space, just to name a few with the order of study. This takes a lot of time, and of course, the problems are quite challenging.
However, the second game is miles more enjoyable. Why? Welp, the first game only provide momentary satisfaction, but it won't provide player anything meaningful. The second game is totally different, it actually provides player motivation for learning, broaden player's world view, and let player leaves with something useful beyond the enjoyment and sense of satisfaction.
For instance, a game that talks about a story is not that interesting and meaningful(although its still miles better than those popular games on roblox somehow), but if the story contains a small portion of those fundamentals of intellegence that you will see in Shakespeare plays(such as Legend of Heros), or a meaningful life experience, thats completely different, and this is part of what makes a game great.
Of course, a game don't have to be great, being decent or playable is alright. But there's the flaw, are games on roblox today actually playable(this statement is only for those gambling afk games)? At least I won't call leaving a computer running 24/7 without even having the most negligible involvement or thinking 'playing' a game(no meant for harm or hostility, I am just providing my opinion).
All i want to say is that, the type of game that is popular reflects what the society of that period is like, afterall:
Anything made by human is itself a game of humanity.
Also, just an extra seemingly unrelated thing. Many people living in modern age cares too much about gaining and losing and etc, playing game is suppose to be entertaining, but where are the entertainments in those game now? Entertainment is to let people relax and reflect on the content(such as the plot and meaning of the story, the solution to a question, potentiao solution to a proboem we face, or historical significance and reasoning behind a historical event, etc). But many of the game today? They focus on luring players toward darkness, a region of the ocean in which the force of wave points whirlingly inward. They won't provide light and hope to players, they deprive them from players.
For one would never be satisfied by those momentary satisfaction, they will only left the pain of losing it in their memory, and devote for it to return, and become willingful to be trapped inside the cage which they created themselve.
Hopeful those problem and issues will vanish in the near future.

I am a game developer who always creates unique games that do not fall into the categories you mentioned earlier. I prioritize my creativity over popularity and I am willing to pay developers to help me achieve my vision. I believe that the Roblox community's strict rules against gambling and the focus on specialization are the reasons why good games often go unnoticed. Players are more interested in popular categories rather than unique and creative games.
However games like My Hero Academia Battlegrounds might not good and got many dislikes because of the priority to take down anime adventures.
Also please please it's not my fault if the game was not that good or either too lazy. Two reasons is that I have school and second I still don't know how to script like a pro.

there's also another super underrated game i've been playing a lot. it's called running from the internet (abbreviation, rfti), it's a game of where you have to hit the enemy with different weapons (similar to arsenal but it's much more fun) and there's lots of maps and game modes. some of the game modes are (king of the hill, players vs players. players vs bots, free for all (abbreviation ffa) which is i think all? but i'm not sure.) it doesn't have much gamepasses that people are interested in, (nor do they use it) people are more focused on being first, being the one who won the game. there is also a practice area of where you can practice to play the REAL game. much much people don't know about this game (it's better than paintball and arsenal combined). the max players this game gets is up to 290. this game has been my favorite for a year. i've never really gotten bored of it. now being first isn't always what's in most of the player's mind. they just want to play and have fun in a game they like. i so recommend rfti. theres also dingus which is also super underrated (i explained about it in a different comment)

Murderer Mystery is actually one of Roblox's best games. It's been on the front page for over 10 years, while all other games over the ages died out. It's very replayable, easy to play, and relatively fun, and it doesn't even get or need updates. Gambling is not a recent trend in Roblox games, nor is it only used in Roblox. But unlike all the other games that used that strategy over the ages, Murderer Mystery is not dead, so ask yourself the question why is that before criticising it for using what all other games use to be popular because that's not the case here, even though it may play a part in it being popular. I don't even play that game, but as a game developer, I often use it as an example for a good game design because it probably is the best one.

Merc Fleet is still one of my favorite shooter games on the platform. It's a really fast paced shooter with cool and good looking and feeling guns, different unique abilities, good looking maps, a great selection of songs, and cool and interesting characters. I've genuinely enjoyed playing the game and it definitely deserves to be played more. However, due to the games last update being several, several months ago, some changes that people had mixed opinions on, and the general lack of information from the dev, the game has dropped a lot in popularity and activity. If I can recall correctly, it had almost 2k players when I first started; now it barely has 25 active players :/ I may be wrong about the first number, but I hate how I'm not about the second. If you're interested in fast paced shooter games (like ultrakill), then this game might be for you.

there's also another super underrated game i've been playing a lot. it's called dingus. it's a game of where you have to be hidden from the hunters by acting as a npc (there's other npcs too) (hider explanation) and do quests that are random. now there is a quest that are highlighted in red. those quests mean the npcs DONT do those quests. meaning you have to be as stealthy as possible. (hunter explanation) now, for the hunters. you have to find the REAL players. if you shoot 2 npcs, then you can't play (once, blinded). the npcs don't run. they don't do the red quests nor jaywalk. the npcs also don't go through areas that hunters can't go through. there is NO competition, NO currency (NOT EVEN ROBUX!), and just a game. lots of people don't know about it. you don't buy anything. you just PLAY. is so recommend dingus. there is also running from the internet (abbreviation, rfti) which is also super underrated. I wholeheartedly agree that the more underrated games struggle especially with initiating new players. Arcane Lineage, for example, not only has a very irregular leveling system that wouldnt be intuitively easy to figure out at all for even seasoned rpg players, but it also features quests that dont even tell you the objectives you need to complete. While there is a tutorial npc, he is also unmarked and could be potentially missed when you spawn in due to his positioning relative to the player. The devs put in time to make pretty interesting game design decisions, but they fail to make basic additions that most games have been doing for decades, and that most mindless and predatory games are excellent at doing. Especially with how simplostic they are to learn by comparison.

As of right now, a 16-year-old horrid addict, I can say this video has really made me think about my choices and want to quit my addiction to Pet Simulator 99. I've always had a history with Pet Simulator, playing the first game when I was younger and enjoying it before that all went down the drain from Pet Simulator 2 and X. By the time of 2 and X's releases, I had grown a hatred for Preston and his games, thinking he was a terrible man and his games are just a gambling addiction to which they are. Then present day, here comes The Hunt, Pet Simulator 99 happens to be one of the chosen games, and seeing it as a free opportunity I played without much thought. Skip to after I get the badge and my brother is telling me how much he likes the game, and that we should get into it. At first, I hoped he was joking since he was just like me with this hatred for Preston but he clearly was not kidding and it took me by surprise. Skip after The Hunt, I took my brother's word and played Pet Simulator 99, a choice I now learned to regret. We were both addicted, I even admitted to him I knew I was addicted, but I kept playing. I've spent money on that game, hours upon hours on that game (66 hours), and I have Premium so Preston is getting my Premium payouts for playtime. I regret saying the fact that I have almost every single pet in the first world and am in the second world, the tech world with about 2M+ diamonds or more. What is also sad, I wanted to try out Sol's RNG, but I see that will also be something I soon regret by being another addiction under my sleeve. Take my word for it, you're wasting your life by playing these games made for gambling and dopamine rushes, it's NOT worth it and NEVER will be. Take the word of an addict, and change yourself before you too become addicted or fall deeper into the addiction rabbit hole that you may never recover from. I'm more than ashamed to admit I'm a horrid addict at 16 years old, but don't be like me and others who've made these mistakes, be the better person you're sought out to be.
Edit; For a good underrated game, I would recommend Phighting.

My reasons why popular game is unpopular to new player:
    - sweats
    - gacha elements = brings whales = gacha + whales = P2W
    - combo exist, inviting more experienced buttonmasher player (because they're known how to play JoJo games, battlegrounds, dragon ball roblox games (especially ones with combo), Sakura Stand and more)
    - PvP inviting more players who wants to just kill for fun.
(No one will be at the safe zone, there is just gonna be Nukes after Nukes after you cross the safe zone)
    - it's Anime.

Starscape is pretty much dead until Keth gets some sense into his head, he failed as a developer twice, I doubt people would give him a third chance. He made the mistake of pulling the plug instead of putting things on hold and fixing things, that is why development is doing so bad, and Keth is really disconnected from the community, he has been gone for to long.

@@xanthiusdrake2775 cruisers are supossed to come along with player stations because youre supossed to ONLY craft them at your station or your faction's and the main reason is because keth is crying that he doesnt know how to balance the player stations for defense and offense, he doesnt want 100 people defending a station and leave no space for attackers and just eating 5 of them this is why he doesnt want to release them yet, plus cruisers will be so big that they will only be reliable for fleet battles and maybe pve

    • @xanthiusdrake2775

@@Panzeh Which I say that is all bullcrap, the game can handle having cruisers just fine, besides Keth cheated and gave himself one while doing some combat. Also they don't really need a specialized shipyard, they are still small enough to dock at stations just fine, they aren't as big as people think, it's the battle/heavy cruisers and battleships that are really big.
Also Keth needs to finish adding the new turrets, they have been sitting there waiting for far to long, and he needs to change blasters, they are just a reskin of repeaters.

I think you forgot to mention the flashy effects. Popular games often have great animations but gameplay itself sucks (like in blox fruits, sol's RNG or tsb). Animation and flashy effects lure young players into the game and then they get addicted to gambling and other tricks of developers that result in wasting a lot of time in bad games.

I was kind of confused about bad games being popular and good games being overshadowed. I was wondering, why not make games that have effort and are actually interesting, since it will keep players engaged and want to continue with the games. But then I thought about something, which I believe you mentioned in this video. It’s that good complex games are too complex for children to be engaged with, even if the games are complex in a way that makes them awesome. Bad games on the other hand a much simpler for children to play, they’re so simple that they can be extremely, but children don’t care about quality, really just if the game is simple to play.
This is an amazing video, and I really like everything that you went over. I don’t think Roblox will ever decide to shine light on underrated Roblox games, but at least we have people that try to get players to play underrated games. And I think I should really try to look for them as well.

    • @BananaMan6763
      @BananaMan6763 Před 18 dny

Also, I think video games outside of Roblox are a bit different. You see a whole lot of games that show innovation, passion, and effort, and they’re very popular. Bad games, at least I’m pretty sure, don’t become very successful. I think these things honestly make sense. I think the reason games outside of Roblox are like this is because I think they aren’t in as much, or aren’t in any, competition unlike Roblox games.

The fantastic frontier is one of my favorite games,
and the main reason there are barely any new players except for veterans players is because mainly they game is GRINDY,
almost all of the enemies for starters are deadly, and the game isn't exactly the type of game a kid would even player,
it is isn't for casual gamers and is more so punishing, you could easily get lost if you don't know the map
