  • We've talked about classic Roblox avatars before, but what about classic Roblox games? After all, Roblox is a gaming platform, not a fashion show. There are plenty of classic Roblox games that are still available for you to play right now, but unfortunately, since many of them are so old and were created with a very limited set of tools, most of them are broken or just simply not fun. Fortunately, though, there are still some diamonds in the rough. Which classic Roblox games still hold up today? These are the classic-era Roblox games that are still fun to play.

Just a quick clarification - I am not trying to claim that this video covers *every* fun classic game out there, there's no way I could do that in a reasonable amount of time! I just tried to cover as many as possible. If you know of a classic game I didn't cover here and you want people to know about it, pop it in the comments :)

One thing to consider about old ROBLOX is that the front page had a super high turnover. New games constantly became popular, so even if they were simple, they didn't have to hold our attention for very long, cos we would soon move on to the next big thing. When I first played in 2008, the most popular game would only have around 50 concurrent players, so it's not surprising that what was popular could be completely different from one day to the next.

It's also pretty necessary to add that server size was *limited* as all hell, meaning that it was MUCH more difficult for games to sustain (or even achieve) the critical mass of people that continue attention beyond that initial appearance on the front page

I really do miss the old roblox building style where everything was built brick by brick instead of everything being modelled in blender and imported it was very charming and beautiful and the added benefit was the map destruction that was possible because of it - I remember so many old games like " the end of robloxia " that relied on map destruction as the main gimick and I honestly miss it

i think the main appeal of old roblox was that it definitely felt more like a online social hangout than now. games were so bare bones that it felt like you were battling legos with random people. aside from the obvious fact that i'm no longer the same age as i was 12 years ago, i feel like roblox has become a much more advanced engine to the point where it's no longer possible to feel the same feeling from that era. people are either making cash grabs or insanely impressive videogame experiences where it's not as possible to feel that way.

As someone with an account from 2008 and started in 2007, I think why I miss roblox back then (aside from nostalgia) is because the simplicity was the charm. I used to play a lot of roleplaying games like the old high school and robloxaville map. The game was like a virtual, social lego game and your imagination was what made it come to life. With how overcomplicated things are now it feels like sensory overload and caters to the ipad kid demographic where the more complicated and distracting, the better.

My favorite old roblox game was called something like "Elemental Wars" I think. Or it mightve been called Superhero Battle. There was more than 1, so I don't remember. But the concept was that you spawned near teleports that led you to rooms with givers (you know, those boxes that gave you tools) and each teleport was themed around one elemental power.
It was _incredibly_ basic with most classes having the same "shoot" and "path" tools, just colored the same as their element, with some giving unique items (like Wind gave you that staff tool that blows other players away).
I remember breaking the game because you could use the paths to fly back up to the teleport/giver rooms, and just collect every other power's items.
Now most of those tools and scripts are broken :/

I've been playing roblox since 2012, and to be completely honest the current state of Roblox games just kind of blows and I still believe that the older iterations of the platform were more enjoyable for me.
Not because of the fact that the website changed, the removal of a free currency (which enabled heavy botting), or because the overall art direction switched from a more lego like style. I actually very much love seeing how much the platform has grown and evolved in terms of server quality and character creation.
Its less enjoyable because of the content of the games themselves. Prior groups like Mad Studio eventually setting the norm for roblox game development nowadays, the games were just created by fellow users and rarely had much of a profit incentive in mind. Because of this, many games were variations of current popular platform specific trends (think sword fighting and stamper tool building games) with their own personal deviations.
The Personal Server feature is also something I genuinely feel was a massive boon to the community thats since fallen into utter obscurity since its removal. I have so many fond memories interacting with the hosts of these servers and building stuff together with complete strangers. I even had a personal server at one point that managed to amass 100 visits and have like 30-50 concurrent players all building together with the tools roblox provided.
The Roblox Forums community prior to Quackity ruining everything by turning them into a complete meme (after his raids more and more new users popped up with the sole intent to troll) and getting them removed had so many people who would just ask others to test out their cool little hang out or pvp games and we would all play together. Astrians OT bunker was another common hangout spot I remember vividly.
Ever since the removal of personal servers, the forums, and the shift from individuals to large profit driven game group studios, the games just don't feel the same anymore and I often find myself rotating between the same 5 or 6 older games whenever I play on the platform.

You're on a roll when it comes to making roblox videos that no one has really thought of before! Its very interesting getting to see how certain roblox developers from back then managed to essentially smash rocks together in just the right way to create a bright and raging fire that persists today! As for the editing, I really like how you're able to convey everything you need to with just music, that little talk about the chaos of base wars in its prime felt so much more meaningful with the music in the background. Of course you have the normal editing that feels snappy and constantly moving. A bit disappointed there weren't any really obscure games on this list, but hey, the best ones are the ones everyone clings Ig.

    16:56 same
18:33 not sure if this is satire or not, but the implication of the same blood decal being plastered everywhere being too much for youtube is absolutely hilarious
31:56 Glad you suffered through survive the disasters 2 as I did, it was a hell as a child, but a fun hell, nontheless.

Old Roblox had a charm to it that just cant be replicated anymore. It used to be that every game stuck to the theme that you were a block character in a world of blocks and the whole game stuck with that theme. Each place was like a different level that took place in this world of blocks. Now Roblox is a platform full of simulator games that don't really have that identity anymore. You have full-on Call of Duty and Forza clones now that were made by studios full of developers who get paid. Old Roblox games were made by a singular person who made it for the fun of it. The limit of everything being simple and blocky that required a bit more imagination definitely had a charm. In the end, modern and classic Roblox are so radically different that they can't really be compared.

there was one roblox game i use to playh back when i first joined witch was called zombie assult that game had a full on cutscene when you first go into a game lobby ( you dropped down into the map and the cutscene would play) and you never saw that in any other old roblox game and i always thought it was unqie for that. like it was an actual story driven game. to bad it has fallen to the way side cause in my thoughts it should be part of roblox history for that. the early 2010's was such a good era of roblox, 2007-08 might be what many people consider classic but when i played in 2010 the game was completely wild, it had alot more experimental games that pushed roblox very hard, i seen so much crazy stuff and it was happening so fast that before i knew it people where using roblox meshes and mushing them together to make more complex models and it completely changed so many games, it was also the era that introduced many flaws like the 2012 april fools accident and the more obscure 2014-15 c00lkid accident (which was honestly the funniest exploiter raids because they would plaster a red guy everywhere and spam illuminati and mlg particles)
The era gave birth to many overhauls and games that are still praised and remembered to this day, the game did improve more after 2015 but it had a downpour with the community and roblox as the barrier started to raise to where only investors get the treatment we used to.

I’m 22. I remember my first encounter with Roblox that came up as an ad sometime on the internet when I was 5 or 6. My dad made my account and I was just in the 1st grade and I remember the grey skybox and the red roof house. I remember the rainbow force field that took the shape of the Roblox character when you just spawned. I remember the green circle that you could use to click on the floor to get anywhere. I remember the “blup” sound you would make when you jumped. Wasn’t really active in it until around 2009 though, where I played with a lot of my friends from school and man, it has changed so much. I understand I’m so so much older than pretty much everyone who plays it but they really missed the golden age. I stopped playing when they got rid of tickets, for me it wasn’t the same Roblox I grew up with but it’s so crazy to see how far it has come

Man I used to play Base Wars so much back then. For me the most fun part about it was that it never ended. There is no objective, there is no win condition, you would just do better or worse and people would come and go. Sadly when I tried to play it again a few months ago I didn't find it as fun. imo they added too much, what was a simple deathmatch game turned into a weird RPG-FPS hybrid with way too many subclasses. Before it was still somewhat unfair with how the progression system worked but it wasn't as terrible. Old base war was simple and fun, and that's all it needed to be.
I also remember I really enjoyed one update that barely lasted that made it so vehicles would get destroyed piece by piece, so if you shot the tank's cannon it'd stop working. I used to shred air vehicles with the dual chainguns, or snipe off the turrets, good fun. Later they removed this, but made it so you could snipe people off airplanes, I loved doing that.

long story short, people loved classic games BECAUSE they lacked complexity.
the fact that most if not all games just couldn't or didn't have a save function for stats and such meant that tycoons and resource gathering sandbox games had accidentally more replay value, and the games were built around that fact so they all took few hours to complete.
competitive games also meant that you could only farm out your "k/d" for one session.
I seriously miss it, and I hate that updates broke old games as they're the only reason I would even consider playing roblox.

In my opinion, the Post-Classic Era was definitely the most enjoyable part of roblox history-atleast for me, that's where I made my best memories, and most classic roblox games were still functional and populated. The game just felt a lot more alive than and a lot less corporate every ever since they added dexex. Games aren't really made for fun anymore, at least most games. Also, I find all the "modern memeyness" and "cursedness" of modern roblox has lost most of it's charm by now for me. I rarely ever play roblox and for me any new games are only played for like 30 minutes. Though I have gone back to some old functional games and played them for hours with some buddies. I am not really like most "classic" elitists and, personally, I feel like 2017 was around when roblox really started to go downhill rapidly for me.

Me and my brother used to play catolog heaven ALL the time and even though it isnt top played or most liked we still enjoy it. Even other games on this list like crossroads or doomspire brickbattle are fun to play even though its not popular. Proves how much roblox made it fun back then. Great video Nitro!

Its insane to me that the OFFICIAL roblox channel had that EXTREMELY low quality and not even to mention low FPS game trailer. Like you see the old framerate videos for nostalgia and creepypasta videos of what old roblox was like but unironically seeing that is crazy.

Brickbattle actually is still alive and doing well. GFink, The Creator of Temple of Brickbattle even made a remaster of the original crossroads and its very very good and I recommend trying it out. The Brickbattle Community is also very competitive and if you play it right Brickbattle can be a very fast paced game.
