    I don't think I saw anything in the dent featured in this video that indicated a need to use so much filler. I think it could have been pulled a few more times with glue on pads that would have sufficed. Personally I would have tried the entire repair without touching the paint but I don't want to be too critical. The PDR industry has become pretty impressive in the last few years

    • @LakesideAutobody
      @LakesideAutobody  Před rokem

      This type of damage cannot be repaired with glue tabs. It's way too rigid. You might be able to remove the interior and work it from the inside but that would take excessive time and risk breaking interior parts 🛠👍😊

  • @lcar9871
    @lcar9871 Před 3 lety

    Hi Jerry! Would you explain your thinking on why a stud welder wouldn't work. My first inclination would have been to weld a few studs along the body line and start working them. is it because, even though the dent is small, the crunched body line makes it too tough a pull for studs? Thanks!

    • @LakesideAutobody
      @LakesideAutobody  Před 3 lety +1

      You got it. Sometimes with dents like that you'll weld a stud or two and it either pulls the stud/studs off or rips them out. The area is too small to fit a bunch of studs in there too. This is not the greatest example either. Sometimes on rockers and other rigid areas it is just impossible to pull with a stud welder and you have to do it this way or even use larger sheet of metal welded on to pull from. Good thinking my friend :)

  • @jamesroe7628

    What about the slag in the jamb you had to sand out and do something with?

    • @LakesideAutobody
      @LakesideAutobody  Před 2 lety

      If the door jamb gets damaged then you have to paint it - there's tricky ways to just paint the part you need w/o a hard tape line. I'll be doing a video or two on that topic. If you just get some excess filler in there that's easy to remove 'cause it's on shiny paint - You can "knock" it off with a piece of hard wood and a hammer or with your nail. I hope that is what you were asking about and it helped :)

    How would you tackle the same job but with an aluminum body

    • @LakesideAutobody
      @LakesideAutobody  Před 3 lety +2

      Everything would be the same except you'd have to get good at TIG welding or take apart the interior to get to the back and use a porta power. Also have to use epoxy primer and/or urethane primer surfacer to stick to the aluminum. I actually welded an aluminum snowmobile tunnel with this same Miller MIG (aluminum wire and straight argon) so maybe that would be a solution too. I never pulled a dent on aluminum yet - might be a good topic for a video. Thanks for the comment Al - have a good weekend :)
