    "I'm very confident in my welds". That is the problem. You missed the joint with your welds. You didn't get filler completely across both panels. It's evident on the front as you can see the joint between the tacks and when you flip it over it is even more evident that you missed the joint. This video is a great demonstration of how not to weld a butt joint.

  • @bobjayp
    @bobjayp Před 5 hodinami

    How do you do that on a uni-body vehicle without the seam at the top - would you lap weld the entire distance? Also are replacement rockers amenable to either butt or lap welding at the surgeon's discretion or are they formed to fit using a specific installation method. I know they sell flimsy "slip on" panels that are over sized and cover up the whole mess without fixing anything.

    This was a good video in giving a lay person an idea of what goes into a repair like this.somebody left a whole mess of furniture in the street surrounded by cardboard i and need running over it, at first i didn’t think there was any damage. But when i got to work part of my front bumper was busted by the fog light all the way around to the splash shield. But when i open the hood it looked like it was pushed in and the drivers side fender has a gap at the top where it meets the door. Do you think that the front nose can be straightened out and what does something like that cost

    • @LakesideAutobody
      @LakesideAutobody Před 20 hodinami

      It can be straightened but it will cost quite a bit I imagine. Frame work in major shops is expensive. Try a smaller mom and pop shop and see what they have to say about a price.

    • @LakesideAutobody
      @LakesideAutobody Před 4 dny

      Great ?. That's one of those things that come with doing it a few times. The main goal when starting to use the cheese grater is to just knock it down a bit to make sanding the filler easier. Once you get good at that you'll start to get it closer and closer to almost perfect. Basically knocking down all the high areas and staying away from the lows. Ask more ?s if needed :)

      You are fine priming over 80 grit scratches in your body work. DA sand around the area with 120 an scuff or use 220-320 further out so you don't get primer on un-sanded paint. Don't listen to any other "noise" on that topic either. That's what was done in all body shops I worked at.
