BATOCA S4 Cordless Detail Polisher Review
"I'm very confident in my welds". That is the problem. You missed the joint with your welds. You didn't get filler completely across both panels. It's evident on the front as you can see the joint between the tacks and when you flip it over it is even more evident that you missed the joint. This video is a great demonstration of how not to weld a butt joint.
How do you do that on a uni-body vehicle without the seam at the top - would you lap weld the entire distance? Also are replacement rockers amenable to either butt or lap welding at the surgeon's discretion or are they formed to fit using a specific installation method. I know they sell flimsy "slip on" panels that are over sized and cover up the whole mess without fixing anything.
What size wire did you use - does it matter in this application?
Can you do this after two or three days
That's real talent. I was fascinated watching this guy take care of what is the scourge of every vehicle owner in New England. I wish I knew someone like this locally.
Thanks, wind sprung hinge and gap between door and fender too tight.being a extremely windy day wife admitted it door may have been sprung.no big deal but the front hinges are spot welded on from what I see.moving fender forward 2 mil.will solve my issue .glad that the 3 bolt design for fender mounts hasn't changed much .
Marine taught Bible over 60 years Shepherd's Chapel YT explains the whole Bible God bless
👍😊
This was a good video in giving a lay person an idea of what goes into a repair like this.somebody left a whole mess of furniture in the street surrounded by cardboard i and need running over it, at first i didn’t think there was any damage. But when i got to work part of my front bumper was busted by the fog light all the way around to the splash shield. But when i open the hood it looked like it was pushed in and the drivers side fender has a gap at the top where it meets the door. Do you think that the front nose can be straightened out and what does something like that cost
It can be straightened but it will cost quite a bit I imagine. Frame work in major shops is expensive. Try a smaller mom and pop shop and see what they have to say about a price.
Hey where i can buy this paint striping please
You can get it at Autozone or any of the big chain auto parts stores
Very nice Jerry. That will be a big improvement on the AMX.
Thanks Tom - always nice to hear from you. Hope you're doing well 👍😊
That came out beautiful, did you use a clear coat or some kind of protectant after?
Nothing afterwards. Just be careful cleaning it. You can wash it like you normally wash a car but no buffing, waxing, rubbing, etc. Don't want to accidentally shine it :)
Nce job. What grit of sandpaper you use? Thanks.
400 - most commonly used in body shops before paint. Cuts fast and doesn't show scratches in paint :)
I'm having issues installing the graphene liner. In the manual they don't say to cut off the metal spring bit. Is this still going strong for you? Haven't melted the liner having the graphene liner so close to the tip?
It's working fine for me - no melting.
Never seen it before. Wot great idea, cheers Graham
If I was doing hinge pins on a Jeep, it would be easy because the doors (and roof) are designed to be removed and put back on. Did you know that Daisy Duke drove a Jeep?
Yes - I paid close attention when and what she was driving. I liked her roadrunner too - satellite? - not sure what it was but it was cool :)
Hope you like to wet sand
I actually do. If you want flat as glass finish you have to wet sand. There will always be a bit of orange peel. Even factory paint has orange peel.
@@LakesideAutobody the harbor freight gun doesn’t help . If you get your mix right they work good enough, I’ve probably had 10 of them. Good guns are to expensive
I'm used to welding, but the heat from the welder ultimately leads to rust down the line. This repair is far superior if done correctly! Keep in mind that most new cars are using a lot of adhesives in the manufacturing! Adhesive products have greatly improved in recent years! Thanks for the informative post!
Thanks for your positive comment my friend - have great week :)
Same combination that I used to spray my tractor except I used blue
Did it hold up well? Parked outside or in?
It held up but faded fast and I keep it outside
Great job
Thanks Austin :)
Great job
this video takes alot of the novice anxiety away, the one that makes the paint run like beads of realization sporing along the spine.
👍😊
Thank you! I've been watching a lot of videos trying to figure out what primer to use on my restoration project. This was simple and to the point!
Glad to hear it. You only need one primer in your shop. There was only 1 in the 4 high volume shops I worked in. It was always a primer surfacer - either lacquer based or urethane. Doesn't matter which one you use - they both work fine.
all compund splatter on the dash and door cards haha
Not too hard to clean up. Had to have the door open. Much faster to clean up than mask off the whole interior.
Nice work, those doors will operate like new. Thanks for sharing how it is done
You're welcome RG - thanks for watching and the positive comments - always good to hear :)
Great tip and reminder …. Fresh paper once u get trough the initial sticky layer … same for when u get to 159-180 …. Fresh piece as u finish out and feather …. Then you rarely have to re coat or have to hi fill prime more than 2 coats
Thanks for your input. It's good to keep the primer as thin as you can like you say. Never good to have to build up your primer 'cause your body work is poor.
Can you use (steel) mesh with plastic welders?
I suppose you could if you could plug it into the prongs somehow :)
Very nice. Hard to believe a spray gun could be 10 dollars
They went up a bit in price since this video but still under $15. The gun sprays great BTW if you're looking for one for the van. Harbor Freight Tools
@@LakesideAutobody Yes. I do want to spray the bus ! No rattle cans lol
The other matting is Chop strand
Where do you get your parts from like the rear panel and the other panel? Like do you get it from the dealer or online? I love your video, I’m always learning a lot 🤍
If I can't find them online - ebay, partsgeek, carparts, etc. - I'll order them online from a dealer. Never actually physically go to a dealer though :)
I’ve been looking for this forever to do roofs on older cars without removing the seals!
It works great. I really like using it for a clean paint job :)
Hi Jerry.. perhaps you could do a follow-up video on the end result? Hard to tell how the paint flowed out.. in the end. Oh yes the infamous purple gun..
There’s been a long form video uploaded
That paint is pretty good but that gun is junk
The gun sprays nice - what didn't you like about it - just he materials that it was made with?
@@LakesideAutobody looked like I could see a lot of peal in it
1st
I did the bushings in my S10, and I have the spring compressor tool, but they also made a tool shaped like a question mark for removing the pins. I have that too. I've used it on one vehicle. Not cost effective, but handy if you don't have an air hammer. lol
Does the ? mark tool reach the pins better than an air hammer ?
@@LakesideAutobody It has a notch. You can bump the pin up and then move it under the head and get it off. More if you don't have an air hammer than anything. I forgot I even had one until recently.
I have one of these old HF welders. The downfall from what I was told is they are AC. I watched some videos, ordered some parts, and converted it to a DC welder. Runs much better, closer to a much more expensive machine.
Thanks for the information TR :)
I thought it was gonna be on and old ford. Changed many of those
👍😊
Good video Jerry, short and to the point. I have a car I need to change them on.
Thanks 👍Leigh - have a good week my friend :)
Good job !!
Thanks! - have a good week Don :)
Thanks for the video. Very informative. I liked the tape suggestion for the body line.
Thanks for watching and have a good week :)
Great video Jerry ! You made that look really easy. Im sure its not. Im actually in the middle of removing the front door on my VW bus. Might try at the pin instead of the bolts
Thanks for watching Stephan - have a great week my friend :)
When using the cheese are you looking for to know whats to be graded and what results do you get when you know you done cheese grading
Great ?. That's one of those things that come with doing it a few times. The main goal when starting to use the cheese grater is to just knock it down a bit to make sanding the filler easier. Once you get good at that you'll start to get it closer and closer to almost perfect. Basically knocking down all the high areas and staying away from the lows. Ask more ?s if needed :)
@@LakesideAutobody thanks I’ve been learning a lot and learning to understand a lot watching your vids keep up the great content
I love you content man, you make plain for us slow people. I was wondering if it’s okay to prime over 80grit on my body work or if I should always take it down to 180?
You are fine priming over 80 grit scratches in your body work. DA sand around the area with 120 an scuff or use 220-320 further out so you don't get primer on un-sanded paint. Don't listen to any other "noise" on that topic either. That's what was done in all body shops I worked at.
I loathe pins and bushings 😉😉
Not fun when the panels are on 😒 - thanks for checking it out BB - enjoy the weekend 👍
Excellent, right to the point- very helpful to anyone that wants their gun to LAST and give consistent spraying goodness. THANKS mate.
You're welcome my friend - enjoy the weekend :)
Great video came for the airgun use help and really like your talent. Fender looks perfect🎉 subscribed
Thanks for the sub - here's a follow up on this repair 5 years later - czcams.com/video/idrLzsz2eLg/video.html
Great job Jerry. It's been awhile since I've changed hinge bushings in anything
Thanks Bruce - it's been a while for me too - doors are lighter today I guess. Feel sorry for pins and bushings in the 50's-70's.
Did you stamp that patch out wirh a mower deck or what😅😅😅
You jus told everyone that you never worked in a body shop 😊
Fantastic! 2 questions. Would wet sanding the primer before paint benefit anything or just spray color after primer dries? For this type of single stage paint can you cut and buff afterwards if you wanted? Turned out looking great!
The benefit of wet sanding your primer before paint is a smooth surface to paint over, excellent adhesion (paint), you can catch any last imperfections. You can cut and buff single stage solid colors and metallics :)
applied filler 4 times you must be jnr level but think your pro
You just told everyone that you never worked in a body shop or wrote a paper in 9 words. Nice job. 😒
I did mine a couple years ago. The pins never seated all the way and it’s starting to feel like it’s time again.
An air hammer works good to make sure they're seated well. Have a good weekend Dead B.
@@LakesideAutobody I saw that in your video! I have one now so when I do them again I’ll be sure to give them a couple pokes! Thank you!
