- In part 3 we depart the NOC and proceed west to Andrews. Along the way we tackle a steep mountain grade plus we go through the 335 foot Rhodo tunnel, oh and cows too.
Awfully cool seeing those motor cars going over the red marble mountain!
There needs to be excursion service reestablished between Andrews and the NOC. Eventually Andrews to Murphy.
That was a great trip! I rode that route repeatedly with the GSMR photo specials until they took the Andrews section out of service. Thanks for a ride down memory lane.
What year did GSMR take it out of service?
At 36:00 LOL! The cows freaking out. I rode with the NARCOA group in 2003 invited by one of the motor car owners to tag along between Bryson City and Andrews, albeit rainy I really enjoyed it, i'd love to own one of these one day. On our trip, we had a stand off with a goat on the track that REFUSED to leave the ROW, one of the operators finally got it to move so we could proceed.
This is like reliving the red marble gap excursion to those people that never rode that excursion they could experience it in a motor car, speaking of which I wish the GSMR would bring back the red marble gap excursion cause I’m pretty sure those old timers that used to ride that excursion would miss going over red marble mountain. but I can tell that’s never gonna happen
Fun I liked it but some of the ride made me so sleepy

Oh wow that how to get up the mountains. Where did the cows come from 😳
The cows roam free up there. I guess they're free-range cattle. We have encounters with them almost every time.
