In a way that’s true too, the River was named after the rock formations on the river. County wasn’t named until 1810 and there’s a few maps predating 1810 with the river being marked as the Rock Castle/Rockcastle River.
My dad grew up on that river 100 years ago.
I always thought Rockcastle County was named for the Rock Castle outcrop formations in the knobs region in that area of Kentucky.
