When I first started running I had such little stamina so what helped me is making a playlist roughly 30 min long and running 1 song and walking the next until the playlist ended. When that got easier I made the playlist 40 min. And then I eventually started running 2 songs and walked 1 song
Honestly such a good idea! I’m going to try this!
smart! I will do this too!
Good idea!! Im def going to try this.
Love that strategy ❤
smart I’m goin to try this 😂
Love love love you saying that running is a privilege. 100%. I have a friend who is paralyzed waist down and whenever I'm unmotivated for the gym or running, I literally think about how grateful I am that I have two working legs that let me run!
It’s one of the hardest thing to do but the post feeling after running is so rewarding!! Consistency will always be key!!
exactly why it is also so addictive! Love that!
When I started running, I hated it cos my fitness level was SO low. Running was suddenly so easy to progress and SO much more enjoyable when I built up strength on my legs. Plus, I actually enjoy stretching and don’t see it as a waste of time so just extra benefits for me. ❤
exactly!
i got into running by first doing some intervals, building up that stamina before getting longer runs in. Your body needs to get used to the movements.
Did you get shin splints before strengthening?
@@Courtneykoonshin splints are usually a result from improper form while running. It is important to not heel strike. Practicing good form and have shoes that are fitted to your feet will help. I suggest looking up vids on how to not heel strike. Goodluck!🎉
As an absolute beginner who has never managed to run for more than 15 seconds at a time, I really needed to hear that consistency will make the world shine
Nah that's actually crazy but I'm glad ur improving yourself keep it up👍🏻
“15 seconds” I felt that🫠. gonna start tomorrow morning.
I have asthma and plantar fascitis, but I felt God calling me to run. So despite the odds, I want to start and learn to enjoy it. Nothing can stop you but your mindset
yesss the best part about running is anyone can do it! i myself went from the MOST unathletic kid ever who ran 12 minute miles to now having a pr of 5:57 mile!! I promise all it takes is STICKING WITH IT!!
that’s amazing and so true!
how long did it take you?
after my first run i felt like i was gonna die i said this is not for me but i pushed myself now i'm addicted to it ,great video keep it up
I've been running every week for a few months now, but two weeks from now I can't put myself out there 😭 I don't like men watching me when I run, and I always run on the same places which is boring, and im scared to go on unknown places... I'm here for motivation
A tip that worked for me is to use scheduled walking breaks. I like setting an interval timer on my watch or phone and that way you don’t have to decide on when to do what when you’re already tired on the run💫
How do you set an interval timer on your watch?
@@hhannahparker I use the app intervals pro for apple watch :)
thanks for the tip!
What worked really well for me was starting on really small distances and low speeds so that after a run, I was never so exhausted that I would've said "I hate running". Then I started to get excited about the progress I was making and now I really want to get better. Honestly what has been helpful for me was to really listen to my body and begin to feel the difference between "I'm in pain, I have to stop" and "I'm exhausted but I can push myself". The goal is to not get to the first one and to keep pushing when you're at the second one. For the first time in my life I understand what people mean when they talk about runner's high.
At the beginning of last year, I started walking every day, and eventually, I decided to turn that into running. I figured I could run a minute or two and then walk a minute, for about 10-15 minutes to start. However, surprisingly, I couldn't do that. I barely made it to a minute, and my walk breaks went on for who knows how long (I didn't time then, just walked until my breathing went back to normal) and then when I tried to go for another minute, I only made it to about 30-40 seconds.
So, my goal was to get to a minute multiple times in one run. I'd run five-six minutes total (starting with one minute, then about forty-five seconds, a short break, and then the last 15, or 30 seconds at a time) and slowly, I was able to do a minute straight twice in a row, then three times in a row, and I noticed my walking breaks were getting shorter because I was catching my breath quicker.
Once I got to being able to run for a minute five-six times in a row with my untimed walking breaks, I looked into running programs that were couch-5k. I also looked into some shoes, found some random ones online on sale in white (which I didn't like but those were the only ones in my size) and luckily I love them, they feel great.
I focused on cutting my breaks down (started timing them, took shorter breaks with one big one in the middle) and once I was at a point where I could start following the training I decided on from CZcams, I did.
One day, I saw that I had to run 2k nonstop, and did not think I could do it at all, so I decided to give it a try and throw in a walking break when needed, figuring I'd need at least three. I only used one, and it was past the halfway mark. There were also many other times I saw I had to run for longer and didn't think I could do it, but I did. I kept surprising myself, but now in a good way.
I stopped running for some reason and just got back into it a few weeks ago, but haven't been consistent until this week. I'm just about where I was when I stopped, and progress is just on the horizon, and I'm very excited to breach some more milestones.
Every time I run (i still go for time rather than distance, so try to run 3 minutes straight for example) and I see I only have thirty seconds to a minute left I feel like I'm almost done, when before that was literally my max. Now it's like the home stretch. Every time I run I get to be reminded of where I started and how far I've come.
If you haven't tried it, it's okay to start from scratch, it just makes looking back all the more satisfying.
Weirdly, I only started loving running when I became adapted to a treadmill! I used to enjoy running in the summer (I live in Chicago) but as soon as it got a little too chilly, I’d stop. My relationship with running changed so much when I pushed myself to find joy in treadmill running!
that’s amazing! hahah you’re way ahead of me LOL
@@ameliedesai it’s seriously about the music… making a playlist that feels like a concert where you’re almost dancing forward hahaha that playlist starts and my brain knows it’s time to goooo
This video is so helpful and relates to me because I am in cross country and I run 2 miles at my cross country meets. Last year for cross country at the meets, I ran 1 1/5 miles, and now in 2023 1 1/5 miles feels easy for me (this year 2 miles is sometimes challenging). I am so proud of myself for how I have improved! Pushing myself to not walk while running has helped me to get better times in races.
thanks so much Amelie! I was recently inspired by you to start up running again (i ran cross country in middle school.) i really lost the love for it when i ran competitively but now it's so enjoyable again! seeing someone my age so accomplished and motivated to run is awesome. thank you Amelie from the bottom of my heart for bringing back my love for running 💕
this video helped me so much. thank you for posting these, they are super helpful and you are a huge inspiration to me, thank you! i started running a couple days ago, and i’ve always hated it. i’m started to love it though and make the best out of it.
I've been learning how to actually hold my body for running; I've been doing everything wrong because I was never taught before 😭 I'm excited to try out the correct techniques, and YES ON THE CUTE CLOTHES! 💜💕✨
I am preparing to do the half marathon. Your vlogs come in right time. ❤
so grateful for this vid amelie!! needed this
I really want to start running on a regular basis and learn to enjoy it, my mom has been running for a long time and can run pretty far so I’m looking forward to working my way up from 1 mile 😊
Hello, I started running (again) in 2023. I bought running shoes and a garmin watch with a GPS and music. The watch is the best motivation I've had : there's a garmin coach who tells me what to do to reach my running goals. After a very hard start, I now run 5 times each week and love it. thx for the video. Altra running shoes are very good too.
My go to shoe was always Brooks. I juat switched to Sacony..i love them! My advice is to stay away from areas with too many distractions starting out. Ex. Cars, lots of other runners, possible dog chases etc.
Last year I hit this stride where all of a sudden I felt like I could run for hours without stopping ..i couldnt feel my legs!! Ive never gotten back to that again but im waiting
I loved this video!! Thanks so much for sharing your tips, very inspiring !! I have a hard time running and I have been trying to get into it. Will definitely be taking some of your advice. Be well!
Thank you for mentioning gratitude. To be grateful for movement. HUGE help and great mind shift. ❤
Amelie, thank you so much for your videos! It inspires me a lot, thank you!!! ❤
ty I needed this ❤️
running in nature >>
Love this! I love how you said running is privilege that made me totally change my perspective ❤❤
I love this ❤your story and advice is so relatable. Thank you, thank you, thank you! You've definitely gained a new follower!
Thank you so much for just being you, and letting me be part of your everyday life 💕 You always give me positive vibes. Your videos are always so inspirational, relaxing and heartfelt 🤍 Your friends & I are so lucky to have someone like YOU in their lives 🙏
This is such a sweet comment omg!
Thank you for the pep talk! Watching this as I start my running journey 🙏💓
Hey Amelie! I love your videos! Could you talk about things you do for recovery from the gym and running?
going from couch to trail hm this year, and super nervous as i'm just so bad at running! but this video is soo helpful and encouraging. thank you!
Fantastic point and mindset...it really is a privilege
love this girl thank you! i’ve been lifting for almost 2 years now consistently, and i have a high fitness level, but running has always been soooo difficult for me because of my horrible stamina haha; recently, i’ve just been wanting to run, and i have no idea why because i’ve always hated it, but i’m excited to start this journey!
Im so glad for you that you fell in love with it again, it helps to have a healthy hobby ♡
For shoes I’d also recommend brooks running shoes :)
you give the best advice!! i always find the school run hard but at the end of it, i feel so energized and alive. now i want to start to enjoy running and not see it as a chore
it gets easierrr!! proud of youuu
Not even a minute into the video yet I already love this vid💗
This is actually so exciting!!! 😭❤️ I might go become a runner now haha (also starting for my dream body, cool to know I’m not alone in that!)
You look fantastic girl!! After running and before ! What a pretty girl ❤
Try running without music.
Massive difference, you understand your own breathing pattern and makes it easier, well I find. :)
Loved this !!!
2:07Girl, you still look gorgeous after running what 😭
loved this videooo!❤
I have a chronic injury in my foot that will be with me for life, but I want to start running again. I have been injured almost 5 years and counting and I am tired of it. I’m going to start running using your tips! Thank you and wish me luck! 😅😊
This was a really good video for beginner tips!
Thanks! This was helpful.
Thank you for this.
in 5th grade, i joined my schools track team not knowing what track and field even is, i js joined it cause my friends were going to and i wanted to be with them, but ohhh tract im in love with track now i love it so much best sport everrrrr (also soccer). I have been doing track for 3 years and, me and my friends are starting the lil group where we run outside of our school every 2 times a week to start training slowly for track where trying to sprint the full thing so that we can cook in the track meet, but thas like in a year or 10 months so we got a lot of work to do but i loveee lovee lovvee running so muchhh, you dont knowww. This vid was also so entertaining to watch tyyssmm, and for who ever is reading this anything is possible if you put your mind to it.❤🙏
this is making me so motivated to run again after falling off
You don't have to apologise how you look after a run! You look fresh and amazing.
HAHAHAH ily
Absolutely loved this! Thank you :))
hiii!!! what podcats do you usually listen to while running? ive been trying to do the same but cant find one that really catches my attention!
Ahh I recently just got into running in the early morning and this video came at the perfect time! I've been running weekly for a while now but neither my pace nor stamina has improved, so I only do 5k runs, but my goal is also to one day run a half-marathon :)
Tysm Amelie for always posting the best content, you're a huge inspiration 💕
amazing!
5k is amazing lol I just started maybe around the beginning of this year to run consistently and let me tell u I’m still in the faze of only running for 10 mins straight..which is a mile no where close with running 5k straight. & Im someone whose really active play basketball 2-3x a week. But it shows it takes time to get build ur body use to it. Can’t wait until I can start doing 5k consistently
Brooks running shoes changed the game for me ☺️
So helpful thank you so much
Hey❤ first I really like you’re videos!! Second, how do you balance between running and strength workout? do you have a day when you don’t workout?
I do most of my route walking and a little of it running, I'm building up stamina and starting to run a little longer each time
Amelie can we have a guide to lifting for beginners?
I would absolutely love to start running and I got the motivation!!! I'm just so scared to run alone, and I am not allowed to run alone when it gets darker. Problem is that none of my brothers want to join me, not even by bike!!! I am not that social, so getting to know new people is hard..
Maybe putting yourself in a class of exercise. Just so you meet people who run. A class is supposed to be group like and social. Introducing you to new people.
Hi Amelie good morning happy Wednesday morning and I hope you having amazing day today and I loved your athletic vlogs and I enjoy your channel because you are amazing Supporter
I can run for less than a minute straight! This video has inspired me to try again
I believe in you!
Your necklace and sports bra is so cute! Where are they from? Also thank you for all the good running tips! Very useful
Sunday market on in Balbriggan every week. Not sure what it’s like anymore haven’t been in years but there’s always a line of cars queuing to get in
impressive! ive been running for a couple of years but I hate it sonetimes
On school days what do u eat for lunch? ❤
I like the video, it was very super interesting
❤❤❤ I love you tips❤❤❤
One time i went out and started running then i was like let me sit my stupid ass down... because it's hard to the point where it feels impossible to do it non stop for more than few minutes, but i really admire it and would be soooo proud of myself if i become able to run miles and enjoy it, i think im gonna try again and not give up wish me luck and i wish yall the best too
i actually prefer running on the treadmill or track to rubning outside. i feel like when I'm running outside i have to be more vigilant so i only turn on music and i keep it pretty low, but when I'm in a gym or track, i can turn on a podcast or show or something
in my school we have to do every day “the no walk warmup” it’s where we have to run nearly a mile and you aren’t allowed to walk. I don’t find it fair to not let kids not walk since i could do it easily if i could just walk for even ten seconds. If one kids walks we have to do it again. Everyone in high school is at different fitness styles and it really sucks being the kid who can’t do it.
Hey Amelie! Loved your video and was wondering where did you get your cute sunglasses from! They look so good on you!! ❤️
amazon!
running is a privilege 👏👏👏
Running is a choice!
Hi, thank you so much for these tips! They were so helpful an i'm so so motivated to start my running journey. But will i be able to make progress if i run once a week? I have a plan made out where on saturdays' i run: a big set of 2min run-1min walk(x5); then a smaler 1min run-1min walk (x3); and finish off 2min run-1min walk (x5)
I'm a couch potato who hates physical activities in general so, of course, I have a little to no stamina. I basically got of breath from five minutes walk. However, I signed up to a volunteer program where I have to do two months long community service with hope that they would assign me to a beach area. But surprise, surprise, or not really, I am going to an isolated village up a mountain area (haha). They said I would have to hike almost everyday. With my current physical state, I couldn't imagine myself doing that. I would die. So yeah, I'm going to start running as a way to have better stamina and better life in general. Especially since I've been considerin doing it for far too long. Thanks for the tips 🫶
ahhh thats amazing!!
Thanks very much
What are some good podcasts to listen to when running? I’ve tried to listen to some before, but I find a lot of them to be boring. I need some inspo!!!
i love aware and aggravated, the mental reps podcast and not your typical
Thankyou sm!! Do you have any recommendations for podcast or a music playlist? Maybe you can share on insta or here❤️❤️❤️ love your video’s!
looking that good after running has gotta be the biggest flex
maybe i would be more motivated to run if i looked that amazing while doing it haha
haha you’re so sweet!
I’m paralyzed/ in a wheelchair but I want to do cardio with motivation do you have any suggestions?
I run rill failure of cramps, is that bad? How should I improve
i play competitive tennis and i know running helps me a lot for my endurance and better leg muscles, but i still hate it even if i’m watching a show while running, and i can run long distances but still hate doing it because it feels so bland and boring to me. do you have any tips there?
From another tennis player, i used to rewatch break point (tennis show on netflix) while i would go on the treadmill and that kept me entertained and motivated me. I also would switch between running, squats, and weight lifting, that way I wasn’t constantly running and was able to ignore the boredom by switching up my workout. For running outdoors i find it a lot more enjoyable if i go to parks and run, because i can take in the environment around me. Music is another big thing that helped me, and using apps like Nike Run Club so I can do guided runs with a coach who’s there to motivate me. Hope this helps!
@@F4nt4sy22 okay, thank you so much!
I did 12 3 30 for like a year then I had to participate in a relay and they made me sprint short distances and I realized I was going to be okay. I hadn’t ran in years due to my knees. They hate me.
I’m trying to start now and every time I run I get shin splints lol. I just did half a mile on and off running and speed walking, I stretched before and did a little warm up but I can already tell my shins are going to hurt tomorrow. They’re hurting as of now just walking lol. I don’t get how to get past it when they’re sore for so long every time, then once they stop I’ll realize they still hurt kinda bad when I try to run again so I can’t build stamina.
Omg yes I’m having this exact same problem especially with the half a mile!!! I even switched from heelstrike to midfoot and while I was able to run for longer without pain but after my run I still got shin splints I feel like I’m doing everything wrong😭😭😭
I’m not an expert but everything I’ve read about preventing injuries is to slow down. Maybe even slower than you can power walk, because it’s a completely different movement for all your muscles and bones to get used to. Look into Maffetone heart rate training, it’s great for beginners.
@@102mzr you sent this like two seconds after I checked my phone so sorry for the quick reply😭but I’ve since cured my shin splints by doing just that!! I ended up speed walking as fast as I can till my pace fell below a certain point for me it was 17 min per mile and then repeated over the course of only a week and I’ve been able to run with only muscle soreness not shin splints!!
if your on the treadmill, what’s a good beginning speed to start running?
whatever you're comfortable with!! just play around with a speed that you can be somewhat consistent at!!
Sorry for my dumbness, but as someone who doesn't understand metrics, how do I decipher how many miles I am walking er running?
I just use an app and it tells me
Visiting from Jiu Jitsu. I always wanted to try running as a sport. 🏃🏻♀️➡️🏃🏻♀️➡️🏃🏻♀️➡️
Do you use any apps?
I currently am not able to run because of an injury. I didn't do it's consistently before and now I just want to go for a run so bad..
Okay I was a badminton player I had a good running routine so I was able to complete 4km within 20 min. After the covif hit I had my weight gain like 20kgs and then when I started running again I could not run for 3min I felt like I would have cardiac arrest. Any tips on the running please help me out I'm not able to keep things up
What app do you use when you’re running, to see how far you’re going as you’re running? I could run outside if I had something to look at to see what distance and speed I’m at during my run. I can see it on my treadmill, that’s why I choose to run on my treadmill for right now. I’m just starting off.
Runkeeper is a super good app to track your runs!
I use Nike Run Club :)
this came at the perfect time!! i love working out but hate running and to challenge myself i recently signed up for a 5k with a friend tysm ily 🤍
A little late but where do you keep your phone while running? In your hand? I feel like it’ll go flying if I hold it, not sure what to do
in my hand haha
Is it better to run outside than on a treadmill?
what ever you prefer and gets you running!! each have their own benefits!!
Just out of curiosity what is your average pace?
i usually focus on distance so i have a super chill pace usually. around 9:30 ish
John 3:16, God bless ❤
I really wish I could run my feet have over pronation so it’s always been so hard for me to do running
Just made a video on this too! :)
Can one train bodybuilding style and also incorporate running? Tbh, I don't even think I can hold my breath too much. Not sure how this is going to go.
yes absolutely!! cardio is so good for staying lean and just our overall cardio cardiovascular health!
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🫶🏼 Thank you for your helpful tips and suggestions and most of all the advice about how to see running- I am looking to get started and this is my first video that I found & have watched. Again I want to say that I appreciate all your advice on how to get started!
