I had a holographic Charizard back when I was a small child and I took it to school to show my friends. I also had the ones in Japanese writing and kept them on me at all times. Just touching the surface of the cards, swapping them with friends, heck even just looking at each one in my stack was extremely satisfying. Needless to say, the teacher Nazis were on the hunt for Pokemon cards and found out I had some and confiscated them. I threw a huge tantrum and screamed my head off then they called my mom and I got punished. Cried myself to sleep. Woke up the next day depressed AF. I sincerely hope my 3rd grade teacher falls and skins her knee to this day for what she did because that was future money I could have had today at 27 years old.
If it makes you feel any better, unless you kept the cards in those hard plastic sleeves and binders I don’t think the value would have held very much. If you’re talking about running your fingers over the surface it doesn’t sound like they were in sleeves. The title for this video makes it sound like if you have any old cards at all they might be worth a lot but that’s only for cards that haven’t been played with very much or at all. I have a garage with a bunch of old Japanese cards in tins and lunchboxes and while they’re from the 90s and most are in sleeves I don’t think they would be worth very much because just from being in those tins with other cards they got somewhat curved or bent even though I didn’t play with them much at all and just looked at them.
Basically don’t feel too bad because it’s hard to actually be sitting on a goldmine even if you still had them today.
The damn scalpers! Haven't bought a box in 6 months 🙃 😪

I have a ton of Pokémon cards from when I was a kid but I have no idea how to sell them or where to start. How does one get their whole collection appraised?
My son, 7, has been introduced to Pokemon by some of his friends several months ago, actually just before the pamdemic. I can't find a single pack of cards anywhere at the big stores (Target, Walmart), only at hobby shops and comic shops. Hobbies shops can be too expensive and are price out these poor kids. We were lucky enough to find packs at a comic shop not too far, but they didn't have a lot of packs. He was waiting weeks to buy just a pack or two with his own money. He was so excited. Growing up collecting sports cards myself, I want him to experience the same excitement and fun of purchasing his own packs, taking them home and opening them up. This damn greed in this craze is stealing that joy for this new generation of kids. It may be nostalgic for a lot of people and reliving their childhood, hoping to get an amazingly expensive card, but they are also stealing away that excitement from these younger kids. If I find packs, I buy them up just to save for my son. Haven't seen a pack in a big store in months.
Toxic part of Pokemon TCG atm. People are buying out Pokemon products to buy and flip em. Because of the pandemic Pokemon is not meeting the demand.
I hope the fad ends, filter out the fake fans hopping on a trend making it more expensive for the people who really enjoy it
