my two cents: that reverse knife grip or ice pick grip is thought by ppl to be better because it delivers more strength, but in reality, the range is reduced and you are not as agile with the knife compared to the standard grip. However, experienced knife fighter can use the grip to great effect. So basically that grip is used by someone who either knows exactly what they are doing or is absolutely clueless. Seeing Trevor already landed some hits in, he knows these are noobs and just being a smart ass
That's something I noticed at the very start of the show too. When Trevor was very still much out of practice yet he was still kicking ass, but also taking blows himself. The training never left him, he just didn't have the drive yet.
This was precisely why I loved this scene. We see the cast fighting extremely threatening creatures and demons every episode. And this scene just shows us how well trained and capable Trevor is compared to above average humans.

Yes, true. Wish they had shown a bit more of his state at the start of S1 with his art. Supposedly he was starved, drunk or hung over, rusty, exhausted and massively depressed. He looked miserable but never like he was falling apart.
I just love how happy trevor looks and i love how he moves in this fight. Hes very loose and dodging more than fighting. It really matches how he feels. He wanted this to last longer than if he actually tried. And this is why Trevor Belmont is the best Belmont.
My favorite part of this fight scene besides the excellent animation is that split second between 1:09 and 1:10 where Trevor looks like he's holding a Vampire's casket. Way to emphasize Travor's Belmont heritage in a non supernatural fight.

Had they gone with Simon there wouldn’t even be a need for Sypha. That’s because Simon is like Trevor and Sypha combined.
I do hope that there is a spend off series that features some of the other castlevania protagonist. Or maybe cameos. But I understand for timeline reasons that is not likely

His adventures occur roughly 215 years after the events of this series. Simon presumably does hold some magical potential due to his Belnades blood, but he is never seen using magic outside of subweapons and does not seem to be very knowledgable on the subject.
We see a lot of heroes who can kill demons and monsters, but then get beaten in a fight by some random regular humans, here in Castlevania Trevor is having a fun time, thanks Trevor for being the exception

This was actually a decent representation of a fight in the real world between the steriotypical "average" person(s) and someone with significant training and who fights or/and carries a weapon for a living. Props to whoever choreographed the sequence.
Of all fantasy characters (that come to mind immediately anyway) only Trevor can make having a cape/cloak a necessity in combat! Seriously some of the most dangerous fighters are the ones who can adeptly use any mundane tool around them as an effective weapon!
There is some historical precedent for using cloaks/capes in combat too, effectively as an improvised shield, with the possibility to tangle up an assailants weapon. It would mostly have been done from necessity though, such as if you were attacked and didn't have your usual range of weapons and defences, since even a small buckler would likely be more effective.
This is more fluid than a majority of fight scenes that I see in anime. The only ones that actually compare are from Sword of a Stranger, Sirius the Jaeger and The God of High School.
I love this scene because it highlights the difference that has come over Trevor since the last time he fought a couple of Monks/Priests in an alleyway, back in season 1 he would have taken some blows and complained about a drink but here he is loose and smooth going between both combatants. You can feel the smooth jazz going off in his head

I think there is more to it than plain sadism from Trevor's side guys: remember the very first scene of the series when the goons at the bar talk about how the church excommunicated and burned/took all the Belmonts possessions? He is getting revenge for all that on the monks.

I think it was more of a cloak then a cape, as his first fur lined cape was too shredded to keep using after gresit... cloaks are mostly for keeping your clothes from getting as easily soaked, or dirt ridden as fast. Specifically, they were mostly to help keep the equipment on your person more manageably dry from morning fog, dew and light rains while traveling on the roads. Hooded cloaks were more common for rainy days as wet hair is a major source of heat loss... And now you have a interesting bit of fashion distinction trivia you can tell others!

It's nice to see Trevor going up against humans. It shows how completely outclassed most people are in a fight against an in-practice Belmont.
