Whilst I love The Sweet catalogue from beginning to end, I listen to Turn it Down and I hear the birth of punk. I listen to Cockroach and I hear a band nipping at the toes of Led Zepellin. They were a one off, in a very understated yet OTT English way.

I always played Sweet in my car. It was the first CD I ever wore out. My friends daughter hated it until I told her to listen to the words. Still hates the music, but loves the songs. Caught her singing along.
I was 14 when this came out….absolutely loved it. I’m now 61 and realise now that it took me 47 years to realise how good this actually is. Seriously nothing comes close.

Totally underrated band, an absolute force of nature. And made some banging music, should be celebrated for what they were....brilliant. I'd certainly watch a movie biopic of their existence, reckon it would be gold.
I grew up in the seventies,and doný worry ,my friend. They were absolutely great and a very famous band then. I bought several LP's of them,just like my friends.

In the 70ths they were not underrated - they where the top band in germany - had more hits than Abba....I love both....

I don't understand why so many say they are underrated. They had great success over many years with songs that are still known today. A lot of successful metal bands still refer to them as their role models.

Yes I remember that it was quite cool to be into the Sweet when I was a teenager. I never thought they were underrated but later it seemed to become something uncool to be into the Sweet and I couldn't understand why because their music is awesome!!

Glued to the radio we were, to catch a glimpse of anything new from Sweet or Slade. Teenage Rampage was the perfect new song from Sweet after Ballroom Blitz. Bubblegum Pop transformed into perfect Hard Rock. Sweet is one of the most underrated bands of the early seventies.
When I was 14 I would crank up Teenage Rampage and Sweet FA and Turn it Down as loud as I could to keep the oldies out of my room! Still love em 45 years later!

Sweet, a band in my opinion that bridged the gap between glam and punk, with hits like teenage rampage and hell raiser they just opened the door enough for the punk explosion that was about to happen. They were an important band for both music and culture in the 1970's............thank you for the memories.
With punk on the scene music went downhill from then on. Glad they were temporary
