This is a mind numbing movie. Spine chilling. Gyllenhaal at his best as always. Jackman perfectly portraits the role of a desperate father.

I suspected the old lady for sure! I even thought that Alex was one of her former victims who she took as a child and has kept. I feel like she snapped after losing her own kid and takes "revenge" on the world.
Alex looked like the first missing child that was never found

Why wouldn't Alex just tell the truth to Keller though? He probably doesn't need to go through the torment.
@@septianjoddie1999 Alex is severely mentally disabled. it's not mentioned in this video
Every actor in this movie was top notch from Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal, Paul Dano, Viola Davis, Terence Howard to Maria Bello. Just superb and mesmerizing performances.
The movie is great but the recap is missing some crucial details that i’ll list here:
1. The dead body in dunn’s basement is (later found to be) holly’s husband, killed by dunn cause he’s a priest, and holly’s husband told him that he kidnapped children in the past
(The identity of the body is revealed after loki had his mental breakdown, he remembers the corpse had a maze necklace which he connects with taylor’s mazes, that’s why he went straight to Holly)
2. Holly and her husband lost a son due to cancer, which is the reason they’re kidnapping kids
3. Alex and taylor (the guy Who shot himself but doesn’t make any sense in this recap) are the two children kidnapped by Holly and his husband, that’s why they were creating false evidence
The missing boy in the article was Alex or Taylor, i don’t remember which one of the two
Thank you! That was really helpful. Did Alex survive?

In the moment when Keller is torturing Alex, you almost say to yourself, "I would've done the same. Why won't he just talk"!? But, at the end of the movie it's revealed that Alex was the boy of the woman who's son was kidnapped 26 years ago and for whatever reason they didn't kill him. So, he was a lifelong (almost) victim of the evil bitch Holly and her husband. You never know someone else's trauma.
Wdym “(Almost)” he definitely was a victim, I’d say death would’ve been a better fate
"Evil bitch holly" Lol. Relax man. It's a movie.
So who kidnapped the girls? Alex?
he was messed up like that cause the drugs and lord knows whats they were doing to him.they kill 16 kids so nothing good
He was certainly a victim

@@Jakesullyy "Prisoners" . Shuru mai to bataya hai.
This was the first movie to genuinely disturb me. I remember being 14 crying in my bed for hours thinking about how many real tiny little souls went through the same thing.
The old lady is just insane. Father is desperate to find his daughter. Idiot turns his back to the old lady when he confronts her and he didn’t even bring a weapon. He pulled the dumbest move ever. Like why? Never have your back turned against someone that kills for their enjoyment.
Most people lose they’re smart thinking when there close to finding there love ones
Emotions are blinding
He brought his gun but had it in his toolbag. When confronted by the lady he says he wants to “grab my bag and leave” she suspects the gun in there so forces him to drink the soda….
Maybe not his smartest move to turn his back, but I think the tried to cover his bag so he could pull out the gun
Because people are dumb and the old lady is an example of them putting down their guards when it's someone they least suspect. The whole movie is built around them going after the weirdo who they tortured to get nothing and both barely even had evidence against the lady when they went to her house.

Nicely summarized
Statistically speaking, men make up 95 percent of perpetrators of these sorts of crimes. But yeah, evil can take any form.
Hands down, one of my favorite films of all time. Never get tired of watching it, the suspense builds me up every single time. The cast is superb, the ending is timeless because of how big of a cliff we as the audience have to hang from. I still hope he heard his whistle and I still hope Keller blew much louder after the one Loki noticed.
That could be a phenomenal courtroom drama in itself, probably be even more emotionally devastating that Prisoners.
The amount of anxiety this movie gave me 😭
I really hate when film leave things unresolved. I like definitive conclusions.
What exactly is unresolved? Most people die, the girls get rescued, and the detective hears Jackman character whistle at the end so he clearly gets saved too

I forced myself to not look at the comments until the end so i wouldnt spoil myself but DANG this had me on the edge of my seat, esp seeing how little time was left in the vid and they still hadnt found keller. The whistle was a great touch. It started this and ended it.
Absolutely amazing movie with a terrific ending. Movies this macabre and brutal tend to have endings that leave you feeling completely defeated but this one was very well put together. You feel dread and horror when you think,”Oh my gosh they find the daughters but now the dad is left to die?” When in reality the whole thing ties together in a good positive ending. Very amazing film with amazing acting and an amazing plot
I'm just happy the girls got saved bcus it could've went a different way.
What an incredibly stupid comment.
i've watched this movie before and the entire time i've been waiting for Hugh Jackman to pull out his claws
I remember watching this in the theater and I had to leave during part of the movie for a break cause my anxiety was so bad
I hate that Paul Dano as Alex being so good and how horrible what he went through was, is not mentioned. He is such a good actor in the weirdo role.
I can’t be one of those parents that has there child kidnapped, this plays such a good picture of what I think parents, and the detectives go through.
This is one of those movies I've only watched once. Not only because of what Alex goes thru, but because of the possibility of what anyone might do in Keller's situation. The darkness and dread of it all. It's a great film, and it's stuck with me
Detective Loki is one of the coolest characters I’ve ever watched in film.
Always remember good will have casualties but good will always win as long as there are good people willing to take that risk. Evil only wins when good people stay idle.
The reveal shattered a few pieces of my mind i wont lie.
This movie was phenomenal. Denis Villenueve is such a compelling director. Jake G is at the top of his game here. His other film with Jake G "Enemy" is a twisted mind trip too

Does the priest get in trouble for having a corpse in his basement?
The priest killed that person & hid him in his wall. That person was confessing to the priest he had killed several people, but the priest is bound by an oath of silence & cannot tell anybody what is confessed to him. One day the priest just snaps & kills the guy, hides him in the wall.
That man is the husband to the old lady, they lost their son to cancer & as a result went psycho & kidnapped + killed many children. Jake & Brad are two people who had been kidnapped as young boys, were not killed, and lived to adulthood. They protect the secret of their kidnappers, probably out of Stockholm syndrome where the kidnapped emphasize + protect the kidnappers. The "maze" is the necklace of the husband who kidnapped the children. Brad is racked with guilt still however, and that's why he makes all those fake burials & fake torture boxes, as a means of coping with what he saw

This could of been all avoided if they just told the kids no 😅😅😅
atleast wolverine is still hunting.
Is really funny knowing Jake Gyllenhaal in the past would be down to play batman as in this movie he is a detective like James Gordon from Batman, and Alex Jones is the movie the batman plays as the Riddler, and for Hugh Jackman who plays wolverine, and Viola Davis who plays Amanda Waller which is pretty interesting to see in 2024. Ok are they just gonna ignore the fact that the priest had a body in his basement...?

1. What was the priest’s connection to all this?
2. What’s up with the cliff hanger ending?
keller (the childs father) is in the hole blowing the whistle hoping someone hears it.
The priest killed the ladies husband when he came to confess to kidnapping and killing children, and the detective hearing the whistling is basically saying that he is going to find him, not meant to be a cliffhanger.
It meant that he will be found, filmmakers are trying to cut corners that is why they just left it that way.
