    So sorry about your dad; it's always difficult to get through the firsts after such a big loss. My dad passed away 28 years ago, and I still miss him and have an occasional cry.

    Your tears are how much you miss your Dad. Release of emotions is good. The Cumulus Tee looks great.
    ❤ From the Vault Ponchos are nice though I prefer the shorter model. The Anna top is so pretty and in a good colour. The Pi Camisole looks great and it always pays to have the correct width needles . You have so many plans. Take care and rest and relax. ❤😊😊

    Sending you big, big hugs Tash, it’s so lovely that you have gorgeous family support. ❤️
    I laughed out loud when you said ‘daggy’, such a grouse Aussie description!🤣
    Love the ponchos and bravo getting those mitts finished! Your projects are always so inspiring and I really like the details you include.
    I’m not thrilled with the ribbing at the bottom of my Ranunculus so I’m considering ripping it out, continuing in stockinette and doing an icord bind off. I’ve already ripped back the ribbing once and created a split hem, but the yarn is so squishy and ‘fat’ that it makes the rib look a bit bulky. I don’t need any extra bulk! Too many Peppermint Crisps perhaps!🤣🤣🤣
    Thanks for another great episode! 😃

    Just a note on wrap and turns in garter. The Papillion shawl is basically one huge wrap and turn project in garter. I didn't pick up any wraps. They nestle down in all of that garter and are invisible. I'm so sorry you're missing your Dad. No matter how old we grow, a girl will always be her Daddy's little girl. Sending hugs.

    • @mostlyknitting
      @mostlyknitting  Před měsícem

      Thank you so much. I love that you dont really need to pick up the wraps in garter. It definitely is the perfect short row technique for that stitch. x

    xxx. Thinking of you. Do something special that you and your dad used to do together. like a favourite book, favourite song, favourite recipe that’s special to you. It’s ok to cry! It is a great honour to his memory that he was so loved. One day we will all be together again and won’t that be a party!

    • @mostlyknitting
      @mostlyknitting  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Boy that will be a party when we are all together again! I love your suggestions. I have so much to choose from. My dad read The Hobbit to me when i was little and sang “You are my Sunshine” to me when I was going to sleep. Dad loved his food - definitely cake. And especially cake for breakfast. No wonder he finally ended up with diabetes. We are making choc chip waffles for my husband for fathers’ day breakfast so that is practically cake for breakfast once you add butter and maple syrup. Thank you for the encouragement. Xx

    So sorry to see you sad. You must have had a wonderful dad. I hope your father's day is not too hard and your happy memories get you through. 💕 it’s done and looks fab!! Love your friends from the vault.
    When I have 1x1 rib that I want to look nice I will often do a German short row I and knit it inside out so the wrong side shows, my wrong side ribbing has a nicer appearance.
    I don’t think you need shoulder pads. Omg I remember those days, I wore such big ones 🤭😬 the photos 😳🤣
    Ha ha I want a peppermint crisp now. I can taste it!
    I made a few Sophie scarves this winter with bits and pieces of leftovers and every time I was a bit cool I just grabbed one and tied it on my neck and it made such a difference. So I would say do it!
    Your car 😤🤯🤬 I know there are bigger problems but man ….
    I lost my father in law 2 years ago this Sunday. My mother-in-law is not coping well and it’s so sad to see her in so much pain.
    Sending you big hugs for this Sunday 💕 Karen

    • @mostlyknitting
      @mostlyknitting  Před 10 měsíci +1

      That is so interesting about the 1x 1 rib. I just took a look at the inside of the Pi camisole - you are spot on! Why have i never noticed this. New tip taken on board! Thank you so much. I will mention it next episode.
      Yes, i am going to skip the shoulder pads. I think it does make my shoulders look a little broader just with the design element of the saddle shoulder.
      I am definitely going to make some Sophie scarves. I do get a cold neck and sometimes i want something that will warm the back of my neck but wont dip into the washing up water or drape into the dishwasher.
      Thanks so much for the emotional encouragement as well, Karen. I hope this Sunday goes ok for your mother-in-law. It will probably be a hard one for her (and your husband) as well, especially given the date of his passing.
      xx

    Dear Tash....your tender-hearted tears are a testimony to the love you and your father shared....thanks for being open and strong enough to share with us. I hope you had a good, cleansing cry. Loss and grief are never easy. Your Cumulus Tee is magnificent! I think wrap and turn short rows work really well in garter stitch projects. I just finished a Lindel Torken scarf that is full of them and am currently knitting a Hanne Falkenberg Ballerina jacket that has a variation of wrap and turn....both are garter stitch designs. Happy birthday to your son and may your in-law visit be full of fun.

      Thanks so much Hilda. As a parent myself now, i understand better how hard it is to raise children, physically and emotionally. And my dad was a single parent from when i was little - and an immigrant from Yugoslavia with no family here in Australia. He sacrificed so much and gave me and my brother unconditional love. He definitely gave us the best he had to give. Thanks for all your lovely comments. And LEMON TARTS - I could eat one every day… xx

    Hi Tash, Big Hugs to you for Sunday, those first anniversaries are difficult. It's great to see your Cumulus and how you didn't let it beat you. It looks so gorgeous and fits perfectly :) I really love the poncho's Im going to look at them...I noticed they're by Very pink knits. Im wondering how HUGE your vault is as it has a seemingly endless supply of absolutley gorgeous knits!!! Im excited for you to have Nutiden arriving, I just today finished my Jumper in Nutiden, and I love it. It's the most splendid wool to knit with. I held it with one strand of Isager mohair which makes it a little easier to knit with. I will get over myself and post it on Instagram and use your # thingee. I hope you have a lovely weekend with your family.

      Thanks so much Kaz. Ah yes - I love Very Pink Knit's tutorials. It is a great poncho - i am actually wearing the Luster one now. It really keeps me warm, despite not being enclosed.
      The vault is substantial. I havent really even started on shawls yet... Sixteen years of knitting every day definitely adds up. It is quite nice for me to get to show them off a bit at a time. So each one gets its moment in the sun. :)
      I am excited to start looking at Nutiden projects. What did you make? I will be looking out for your FO. ;)

    Your “Friends From the Vault” are beautiful! Incidentally, I thought you said several times that you sized up on the trim of the Pi Cami. I miss heard you right? Or is this a finishing technique that is better than the general recommended sizing down? I’ll relisten💗

      Hi Sarah. I used the recommended needle size for the ribbing. The length of the needle was a bit too long for knitting in the round, particularly as the tips were a bit too long. Also, the bind off was meant to be an Italian bind-off but that was going to be too stretchy for me and I didnt want it flaring so I just bound off in pattern but went up a needle size but even that wasnt necessary. I am going to undo the neckline bind off and do a normal bind off with the ribbing needle which is 2mm. Sorry for the confusion. :)

    Hi Tash, I just rewatched all the segments where you talk about the cumulus tee, as I remembered you had some gauge issues, even if it turned out fabulous in the end. I never seem to hit gauge and my swatches, which I do make, tend to lie...so I wondering if you had any advice in hind sight? I am currently knitting a gauge swatch on 2,75 mm (with the knitting for olive silk) I always tend to go down a needle size to start with because I prefer a denser fabric and because I heard of how the yarn stretches out...thanks if you manage to read this and reply and Happy Easter! 🌷

      Hi Barbara. I dont always follow my own advice but for non-wool fibres, a really large gauge swatch is best and to not be too "precious" when blocking it. Stretch it out a bit because it will do that naturally when you have the whole size of a garment pulling on it. Hope that helps. Happy Easter. x
