Delta Celebrates 10 Years with Northwest Airlines

- Ten years ago this week, Delta’s merger with Northwest Airlines was approved. The merger created the foundation for what we know today as Delta Air Lines - an airline powered by the best people in the world. Join us as we celebrate a decade as ‘One Great Airline’.
I'd love it if Delta could bring back some retro liveries of previously acquired airlines like what American airlines does. It shows heritage and appreciation for what once was.
It’ll never happen as the retro is not the current brand and it’s believed that doing so muddies the brand image to the standard customer, employees ask this all the time and the response is always the same, no that’s not the Delta brand...I still wish it would happen.
I was going to say that too. I’d love to see that too, just like U.S Airways has American West, PSA, Piedmont, and more. Now American Airlines is doing it so it makes me happy to see. I’d love to fly NWA again just that it’s Delta!
Travis Gearhart true, but American has lots of Retro, even TWA.
@@Delta_NWAB747fan I work the delta brand and we have asked the CEO. Internally he does a thing called ask Ed and that was the question the answer was no that is not the current delta brand and it will never be done even though AA does it.
@@travisgearhart3200 While I can understand where he comes from, as a current Platinum Medallion it's kinda sad. I've flown from back when Northwest went out of Terminal A at Regan National and honestly think while it isn't the current brand, it does pay a homage to the heritage leading to what IMO is the superior brand domestically. Even taking the old livery and just rebranding it from say NWA on the front to Delta as what American does with the PSA livery would be a good compromise.
Please do an NWA retro heritage where you paint some of your planes into various liveries of Northwest Airlines!
Make a NWA flashback livery
And cause every flier to gag? NW aircraft had the ugliest livery in the business. They should have stuck with the shiny aluminum with the solid red tail, like it was in the '70's, or even the white body w/navy cheatline w/solid red tail like in the late '60's. Those were nice. After that? Down right ugly.
@@sandiegotrojandawg you can't do bare metal anymore. New aircraft are made of composites, which aren't shiny. NWA should have stuck with the Bowling Shoe livery (grey & red), and Delta should have taken Northwest's old branding and integrated the Widget.
@@ThatGuy-te9wh the current delta livery is very nice, nwa was phasing out the bowling shoe livery when the where purchased.
Delta is a great airline to fly, I never had a problem with them. I was a avid Northwest Airlines flyer and there will be a special place in my heart for Northwest Airlines! It would be great if Delta brought back some red tails!
Yeah you could check flights and buy tickets at the mall of America in Minnesota check flights with the big red rail upper level at the mall
It would be great if they would ditch the delta name and bring back Northwest, period.
northwest airlines was the first airline that i ever bought my own ticket for (bowling shoe 757-200 dtw to bos) with my own money.
The sun will never set on Northwest Airlines!
NWA will forever hold a special place in my heart. A lot of childhood memories with family come to mind when i think of Northwest Airlines. Sadly, from having 3x daily flights from Manila, Philippines (where i am from), Delta has been gradually decreasing flight frequencies. It noe only flies 5x a week, compared to 21x a week before the merger. And it isn't just here in my country. Northwest Airlines used to have the widest network in Asia Pacific, of all US based airlines. Now, it barely maintains any presence at all.
Was a loyal Northwest flyer for over 30 years. Northwest was one of the unmatched greats, and I was truly saddened to see it end. Strangely, I have since moved to a city with only a bare bones Delta presence and they just don't fly in my direction anymore. Nothing will ever replace Northwest.
Hard to believe it’s been 10 years since the merger was announced. It still feels like a short time ago since NWA was still around

I'll always have a special place in my heart for Northwest Airlines. My first aircraft I ever stepped foot on, was B747-400 from Manila to Narita then onwards to Detroit. I wish they would bring back the NWA liveries!
The sun will never set on Northwest Airlines!
No bowling shoe 744, I am the hurt
better company culture = busting all the unions oof
Northwest get Rekt and get noscope 420

I wish this merger never happened. I want to see NWA again.
I honestly wish the combined airline took the NWA branding.
@@ThatGuy-te9wh and im sure peeps will rant about delta brand should survive instead if somewhat nwa brand survived
Facts
As a former Northwest Airlines flyer, Delta exceeded all expectations. Northwest and Delta are both great airlines in the US and glad this merger was done. Even though I will miss Northwest, Delta will be #1 for me. Hope to see a retro livery soon, if Delta is planning on one. Happy 10 years!
@Samuel Stein22 Yeah I mean American and United has their retro aircraft paints. Why not Delta just to reminisce the memories?
Coming from NW, I would imagine you would be happy.
I have had a bad experience with NWA. Twenty years ago from Seattle to Singapore. One flight attendant was making fun of me and later on they all gang up on me. It was a long flight. I afraid to eat their food, thinking they might spit in it. All I know is that the memory was painful for me and it will scar for the rest of my life.
@@adamnan9437 Goodness. I am very sorry to hear you go through that. Some people can be really rude these days, but Karma will get them for what they did. Usually when people make fun of me for no apparent reason, I would just smile, forgive, and move on because I don't want to bare the painful memories. If you believe in God, just ask Him to take that memory away so that you can move forward for a better life.
The delta-northwest merger is an example of a merger gone right
@Jie Andaya i guess its cuz united getting worse and worse after conti merger....cmiiw though since im not the best at US airline history.
My dad worked for Northwst, and I'd love to see Delta feature the legacy of Northwest and honor that legacy publicly.
I was working with Northwest by the time when the Northwest and Delta merger was approved. Truly miss Northwest deeply :(
I love Delta and am a Skymiles member. But it broke my heart to see Northwest go. My first flight was by Northwest from Baltimore to Detroit on the DC9. My parents first flight was by Northwest to fly from India to Amsterdam on the DC-10. They later went from AMS to DTW by Northwest. I miss seeing the red logo and the iconic planes. Has to be one of the greatest and most well known airlines in history.
NWA Never died!
This was the best airline merger. It was a merger of equals. Delta’s accessibility to Northwest’s Asian market, combined with their strong Latin American, European, and African market share, it was a win win.
Honestly this was the last great merger. Ever since the AirTran Southwest merger Aviation has gotten less competitive for airlines and less luxurious for customers because airlines like Southwest are too scared of better companies. This was the last merger to have an actual purpose
1:43 we agree. We are Northwest Orient customers and were sad to hear of the merger; yet, the result has been much better than our expectation. The new Delta is the best of both worlds: you kept DTW as a hub and made CVG just another airport. We do wish (like others mentioned) that you would paint some tails with NWA colors.
Please make a few tribute liveries
Love you Delta!♥️♥️♥️ I always fly with you guys!
0:46 "we are the biggest airline in the world"
American : ArE wE a JoKe tO U
Have to say that delta before the merge was an airline in the south. Travel has really been easier after it
Ahem! Before the merger, DL was serving North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, from the Atlantic to the Pacific. Those are all places far away from The South.
I'd like to fly in Delta Airlines sometime in my life.
Congratulations #DeltaAirlines
I miss the northwest airlines and I think I'm not the only person who miss northwest airlines. I suggest that only one plane have the Northwest livery as American airlines did with US Airways at the time of the merger in 2013.
Now I'm crying again
How did I just now find this video
Modern Delta isn't Delta, it's Northwest flying the Delta colors
So don't be sad that Northwest is gone, be glad it merged its way into becoming the largest airline the world has seen
The sun will never set on Northwest Airlines!
Happy 10th anniversary! NWA and Delta have really made such a great airline together!
Cheers
Here’s to the next 10
Detroit us Delta's second-largest hub and you had no one from there in the video. I miss Northwest!
Congratulations the best!! #delta
Damn... 10 years already.
I love Delta Airlines so much!!!😍
The sky is the limit! This is great!
best logo of all time
I knew Delta was going to be better the moment I saw their safety video in 2009. Northwest airlines was so old school.
NORTHWEST AIRLINES IS NOW DELTA AIR LINES
NORTHWEST AIRLINES IS NOW DELTA AIR LINES
I used to fly northwest all the time now I fly Delta I got the best of both worlds they should paint some delta with some northwest heritage come on Delta
When it comes to buying a confirmed ticket, I was pretty disappointed by how expensive it got.. and with the staff...I've ran into a few that just don't look too happy. Always a straight face, hardly any smiles, but there are a few flight attendants that are pretty cool. Especially the ones from NYC.
Meh... merger was good except for dropping the Northwest name and superior livery.
RIP Northwest airlines
Also Tokyo-Narita
Great job dealt
Regarding 0:41, Delta first truly global airline? Was the former Pan Am not a global carrier before Delta?
So are my flight passes still good with this company? I got them when Northwest had price fixing.
Congratulations delta!
NORTHWEST AIRLINES IS NOW DELTA AIR LINES
Not 10 years, less than that because NWA was still around up until 2010.
I miss NWA :(
I meant Detroit IS Delta's second biggest hub. It was Northwest's largest, not Minneapolis-St. Paul
Wooooooooo go delta!
I can’t wait to work for delta when I grow up
I like NWA, I honestly think they should keep some of the liveries, like the shoebox and the current one.
Not alot of planes but a small margin.
Man, Delta is gobbling up so many airlines. Panam (mostly), TWA, etc
TWA was acquired by AA

Since Delta took over Northwest, it hasn't been the same. It's worse. NW historically had the worst customer service in the sky...their strong union had them in strikes all the time. The culture of Delta is the the most disappointing thing now that NW has become part of DL. Before, DL had a strong, familial employment experience; today, the extreme liberality of the corporate structure (current CEO Bastian came from NW) now is diametrically opposite of what DL was before. Very sad and disappointed in the DL of today. Had flown them for over 50 years; not anymore. I prefer Southwest now.
False
I miss NWA.
Hi
The dream of every girl is to become an Air Hostess.
I miss NWA! MSP Represent!
I wish the could bring back northeast colors Miss the red an grey.
Too bad the American-US Airways merger made an airline larger than Delta.
#Delta is the best! 🙌🙌🙌Congratulations!!😃
It would be nice if Delta would treasure the Northwest Brand more! Remember this was a merger and NOT a takeover! Why not have the Northwest Tail and the Delta Triangle in the Northwest Compass? Have the Delta Name...
Like United kept the name and adopted the Continental logo/tail. That would be a symbol for a merger and respect the history of both brands.
Why would they treasure a brand that was notoriously known for poor customer service and employee strikes and strife? Before, Delta was a superior brand and company. Socially, it was a merger. Technically, it was a takeover. Your MSP HQ is gone, your livery is gone, your name is gone -- and thank goodness they're all gone.
@@sandiegotrojandawg how about delta had shit customer service before the merger with northwest
I believe that American Airlines is the largest airline, not Delta. By airline companies revenue ...
American Airlines is the largest by fleet size, revenue, profit, passengers carried and RPK.
Lufthansa is the largest by number of employees.
FedEx Express by freight tonne-kilometers.
Delta Air Lines is the largest by assets value and market capitalization.
Rob Youngquist the clip you’re mentioning is from 10 years ago pre United-Continental and AA-US mergers. This was the first “big” merger.
RED TAILS FOREVER
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️😘😘😘😘😘😘😘
Umm last I checked you bought out Northwest airlines but called in a merger to avoid an Anti Trust lawsuit or the purchase being blocked. You destroyed a ton of Jobs at the Mpls/St.Paul airport and the twin cities area as a whole and now you're a subpar airline the people fly on out of necessity, but the moment anyone fly on an international carrier they come back and remark how much Delta, American and United suck. But Cheers to killing jobs, substandard service, and fees out the wazoo. As someone who has lived in Asia and flown with a number of different airlines I can tell you that the only airlines you guys even come close to beating are the Communist owned Airlines. But Cheers to doing you part to take American Commercial Aviation from the Gold Standard to the laughing stock of the world.
Yay! I I'm the first comment and I remember when this happened

No northwest 85? I am not the pleased
I love flying Delta... I've never had a bad experience with them.
Me either
AA is the biggest airline
Gamer Chace delta is the largest by market value and revenue
Not before the US airways merger, which was after the Delta Northwest merger
The Northwest name should have survived. It was a significantly better airline. Terrible how Delta busted the Northwest unions and retaliated against Northwest employees. I will NEVER step foot on a delta flight. Horrible excuse of an airline.
Sounds like we have a former AFA member here
@@technole Proud to be AFA, which is why I don't work for DL.
Nice. I wonder if I’m first lol.
Northwest was terrible. Delta buying them was like going from McDonalds to filet mignon.
It’s without a doubt been a wise decision to merge, but this video is more propaganda than a rational showing 🤷🏼♂️
Delta çiş kaka 😂nwa cici
I wish Delta would get a new version with Geo engine's but same lay out of the good old 757 but have Boeing make a 757x with modern amenities and the Geo engine's fuel savings screw those 737 8max Boeing needs to stop building them and scrap the rest use them for parts for older 737
Everyone wins when there's less competition! It's SCIENCE

so true no international FIRST CLASS

That is basically all US carriers, as an American it amazes me that we went from Pan American to these asshats.
