I remember how weird it was, for me, seeing him playing a priest in "The Omen", I just saw him as the Doctor.
he went to a couple of conventions in the US and he did eventually realise according his son Michael's book
@@bletheringfool Jon Pertwee persuaded him to go to a convention, where they were treated like royalty and got a lovely lunch, Patrick said does this always happen and Jon said yes and Patrick always went to conventions after that and enjoyed them. There is an interview with Jon where he tells this.
I met Patrick Troughton at a convention and had a lovely conversation with him for about half an hour. He was as warm and charming as you’d expect, and was utterly delighted to see his fans.
Sadly, he passed away the next morning. :(

I think “foreign” is just a word stuck in because the speech recognizer assumes it’s some foreign language.
It takes me a lot to not only make me laugh out loud, but do so in such a vigorous fashion that I spray my screen with droplets of saliva. This accomplished that. So thank you, good sir, for the best laugh I have had in a while.

I met both actors at the 1983, 30th anniversary convention in Chicago. Both likeable chaps. I got to see Jon , first run, when our family was stationed in East Anglia from 70-74. Thanks for posting the video clip!

I never met Jon Pertwee but I have met Sylvester McCoy (at a collector's fair but not as part of it) and Patrick while he filmed Box Of Delights. Both were very kind and inquisitive. It seems to be a thing that comes along with playing the Doctor.
My favourite doctor, despite so many stories missing, the ones that survive still make me think he's the best
It is unfortunate but yes the ones that have survived are mostly great examples of him
I still believe there are more out there in private collections. Who ever has them don't be so greedy. We all need and want to see those lost episodes.
Troughton does more acting with his eyebrows, then most actors do with their entire body.
@@JoeVington I thought I heard something about how a few years ago they actually found some lost episodes on VHS in Africa or something like that. I believe they were found at a TV station that was closing or someone was cleaning out a storage room.

As a kid, I was very lucky to meet Patrick while he was filming Box Of Delights. At that point I hadn't seen much of him as the Doctor (repeats were rare and recording TV was still in it's early years) but I still regarded him as The Doctor. It was an evening shoot in early '84 and while the snow was faked, it was still bitterly cold. A group of us kids were hanging around at the edge of the set when he came up to us with an assisstant carrying a tray of hot drinks. He then spent about half an hour asking us things and telling stories as we drank. He always paid full attention when we spoke and shook everybody's hand we he left.
Wonderful chap and my favourite ever meeting of a famous person.
It’s from an American advert from 1986, I’m a big fan of the box of delights and watch it every Christmas so thanks for sharing that, interesting to hear about what he was like as a person
