Nepal is the best country in the world! I have been there in 1998 and 2015 when I narrowly missed the big earthquake! I am now studying the Nepali language for the next time I go there.

“Topi” does not mean head - it means “hat” …
“Palpali Dhaka topi” and “Bhadgaule topi” are two official Nepali topi’s.
The one you bought is Dhaka topi - all had made in a place called “Palpa” … everything is made from the local materials .. hand made but not necessarily hand stitched !!
Bhadgaule topi is “black” in color - most popular amongst the local newar’s of Kathmandu valley- both topi’s are equally worn … not just for functions or official attire but also on daily basis.

First time I came to Nepal in 1982 many Nepalis were wearing dhaka topi and bhadgaunle topi. Last time I visited in 2017 not many people wore topi - mainly older men.. When I left ktm at the airport I was wearing my Palpali dhaka topi and only one other man in all the airport was wearing a topi. It's sad to see the young men today don't like to wear topi, except maybe only on their wedding day 🙂
@@NewZman23 so true. The younger generations wear it only on their wedding day; that too custom made to match their attire and not necessarily a typical Nepali one 😆. @@shree2386 Mero desh New Zealand ho. My main reason to visit Nepal is to meet up with Nepali friends (and I also attended two village weddings, which was very special). Last time I visited in 2017 at age 68 I did the Ghorepani-Ghandruk trek and when I return for the 8th time in a few weeks I'm hoping to do the Mardi Himal trek and also see some of eastern Nepal. Yes Ktm has certainly changed over the last 40 years, but it still has a very special place in my heart despite the "organised chaos". 🙏

Davud, very recently I was in Baku, first time in Azerbaijan. We were six senior citizens from Sweden and USA. Baku is a beautiful city. We liked Nizami street, Baku boulevard, old city etc. Azerbaijan is a rich country but unfortunately there are many beggars on the street. Apparently the oil revenues are not properly distributed among the poor. We had a gorgeous lunch at restaurant Selam Elaikum in Baku. People are very friendly.

The dark colored topee looked great on you! Now if I was in your shoes I’d buy four or five of them!! Because you can! 😄👍👌 Davud, have you notice that some of the buildings have cracks and looked damaged? They experienced a terrible 7.8 earthquake in April of 2015. I hope you get to see the Buddha Stupa, Boudha Sadak. It was repaired in recent years from the quake damage. I’m happy to hear v.o.a. is available now!

12:50 especially after the earthquake in 2015 the traditional architecture houses have gotten weaker and it kind of leans so to avoid it from collapsing and for prevention methods, that area you visited and many more have started using this efficient method of prevention by use of simple machine.
