#nikon #video #cameras - VÄda a technologie
We may have to start calling you Gerald Well Done. Very much appreciate your clear explanations. Thank you!
I like it! đ
I think the Canon 6 d ii lines skips, then pixel bins just for fun. Then they crop to 480p, upres that to 1080p and then compress it to give us the best 1080p this world has ever known.
Doesn't it also stabilize and then unstabilize the video for maximum canonocity?
@@geraldundone I believe so :)
And the 5D Mark IV fills about six memory cards per minute of video.
Dont underestimate 480P! Someday we want to replicate the DVD look!
Hahahahaha
This is the instructor I was waiting for my whole life. Learning a method is one thing but learning the intricacies of a method gives you a much better understanding of the same method allowing you to make a much more informed decision in the future and possibly manipulating your gear to craft better art. I cry tears of joy every time this man drops knowledge like this. It's the equivalent of searching through many links for hours on Google piled into a video paired with good analogies under 20 minutes. Much appreciated, Gerald
Big compliments here. Thanks, Kamaran! That really mean a lot. I'm glad my videos are helpful. Thanks for taking the time to say so. đđđ
Iâm learning so much! Love the videos!
this is the writer I've been waiting my whole life to compose this well written comment. took the words out of my mouth lol
All you need are prices to change significantly and the whole decision change
There was a time when I had $8k worth of full-frame gear, that time was long ago and it will probably never happen again...the last time that I even had a DSLR it slid off a golf-cart seat and I just tossed the entire body into the woods after the lens with the broken lens-mount. I'd paid more for the lens than I had paid for the body and together they still were under $500. I really do not see myself lugging one of those things around again. The other problem is that when I see video out of these big-ass rigs and it's out of focus "often" I can only laugh when "videographers" are so worried about IQ that they buy & carry DSLRs, low-end subframes with cheap kit lenses, to shoots because they're too proud to use a fixed-lens action-cam. That never goes out of focus and always is sharp across the FOV. Having to tote around a "purse" full of gear, that's something that I'm not missing.
The extra work in adding the excellent effects makes it so much easier to grasp the concepts. Add your great presentation style and you have a technical video the way it should be. You are quickly becoming the gold standard on how technical videos should be made. Thank you for taking the time in adding the visual effects. It really adds to the quality.
Thanks, Phil. I really appreciate that. Pretty big compliment. I'm glad the effects proved useful; some of them were pretty time-consuming. đ
That Navy for a working professional what is a working professional photographer trying to get into video I just want to know what to put my settings at.. so I can create compelling content
Agreed. These rule!
@@geraldundone Hey Gerald. I've been binge watching a lot of your content recently and really appreciate all the time and effort you put in to your research and your presentation of each topic, very thorough and so extremely helpful. I was just wondering how you create the effects and animated shapes that you use in these videos, thanks :)
This is probably one of the smartest channels on CZcams
Victorfilm without a doubt! Itâs PhD-level education in cameras
MEGA PICKLES! đ„đ„
You need to know how many megapickles the salsa has before deciding.
Now that you said it, I cant believe nobody has come up with that before!
I prefer Bubbies Pickles. Taste great ... but don't do video.
PIXEL RIIIIICK!
I'm gonna start using that :D
Your wisdom is beyond man, 3 years later you have actually given a real class on Pixel interpretation
My brain melted trying to process this information like an 8K sensor trying to process a full pixel readout. In all seriousness this was very informative - I learned a ton from this video and appreciate your in-depth analysis as always. Keep up the amazing vids! #megapickle
Thanks, Dylan. Love the simile and love the hashtag. đđ
How refreshing - stumbling onto a CZcams channel where the host knows what he is talking about, and gets to the point with minimum fluff. Thank you! (I just subscribed.)
Thanks, Neil! Always glad to have a new subscriber. Cheers! đđ
I never really knew what all that binning and skipping was. But your explanation makes it a lot clearer and why there are limitations and benefits of each. Thanks.
I feel like I finally understand why video in hybrid shooting is such a complicated thing to achieve. Dropping knowledge bombs as per usual!
Good explanation, thanks Gerald.
Thanks a lot, Curtis! đđ
Awesome Gerald. This is the kind of video that makes CZcams great. Knowledge transferred without all kinds of other BS.
Hi Gerald, This is definitely my best channel now. Captivating and to a point. Please keep it up and do what you are doing the best simply be yourself.
I have to admit, I have been doing video for over a decade and never had these terms so clearly explained.
Good lord, you must not have a life to be able to consistently create such in-depth, amazing and polished videos explaining concepts that many of us knuckle draggers can barely comprehend. As usual, an amazing creation. Just the time doing the graphics must be daunting. Fantastic!
Ha! Thanks, Randy.
Yeah, the graphics are a pain sometimes. Making all those stupid squares! Heh.
But I don't mind. I guess you could say this is my life. Mind you, usually after one of these videos I don't do much work the next day. Try and decompress a bit.
Very good video with one big problem. You donât ever actually explain how oversampling works. You talk about why itâs good, but never explain how it goes from the 6K pixels in the Z6 down to 4K pixels in the same way you do for the other methods.
Another great instructional video on a pretty technical topic! Finally someone is doing it right on CZcams.
Your videos are so amazingly informative and clear. Can't believe you don't have WAY more views and subs. Great job, Gerald, thanks for all the great videos!
Thanks for the kind words, mate. I'm glad you're enjoying them. đđ
Wow all of this was a real mouthful! I appreciate your explanation of all the different type ways of doing video! How in the world you said all of that and kept it all together I have no idea! Keep them coming great job!
You sir... are incredible. That was a ton of valuable info and now I get why my a6500 is so crispy.
Gerald, you seem to always know exactly what you are talking about, really appreciate all the data you share.
Very informative and excellent quality - smooth delivery, good pacing, and using of visual aids. None of the all too common ego boosts and attacks on other youtubers. Keep up the good work.
I'm shocked how accurate this video is. The best on CZcams in the subject!
That was brilliant. Informative, articulate, and absorbing. I learnt a lot from that, thank you.
been waiting for someone to explain this accurately. brilliance once again, thanks Gerald
Good job. Concepts well explained without dumbing them down. Cheers.
This is the channel I never knew I wanted! Great work!
Love, Love your content. You're a 'true' educator that keeps me engaged.
This was brilliant! These are the details that help one use the right tool for the job. Second vid Iâve seen... absolute excellence!
Fantastic explanation, might be the best on the web. Concise too. Thanks very much.
Brilliant, crystal clear, concise and fun.
Love the way you edit your video to actually "show" what you are talking about. Really great!
We need more Gerald Undones on CZcams. I've learned so much from your channel. I couldn't thank you enough. Glad I subbed. Cheers.
These are very well done and I appreciate your commitment to a clear usage of language and terminology - I truly feel like most misunderstanding comes from poor use of language. You go a long way to correct a lot of the nonsense on the internet
now some jargons are sorted ...so nice of you to explain in detail .. keep up the .great work ....
i like the effects you are using in the video , lots of efforts .
Excellent video. I already understood how all this works but still your video was fun to watch. Thank you.
The information was coming so fast my brain was buffering, but still the best explanation I've heard. Thank you.
This is incredibly enlightening. Thank you for breaking this all down đđđ
I'm amazed at how well you managed to explain this pretty complicated subject - This is how it's done
Thanks, Daniel. Cheers! đđ
Another well thought out well explained video on complex subject matter. I just subbed today and I'm making my way through your videos. Great stuff. Thanks so much for sharing.
Very informative, well presented - awesome work, Gerald, as always.
I love the way this video is edited! Very interesting. Learning tons!
Thanks Gerard. Excellent presentation
I like this guy. very informative presentation. suits nerdy people like me. I can see you spent a lot of time and effort to generate this video. Thumbs up!
I thought your explanation of megapickles was spot on, I think. Seriously, that was a very good explanation of a topic that is often too casually described.
I learn so much from your channel! Thanks for the A+ content!
Wow best explanation. This channel deserves million subscribers!
Dude hands down best CZcams channel! You explain complicated stuff so easily. You rock
Thanks so much! đđ
Ridiculously high value edutainment here as always. Feel like Iâve been getting a university level course compressed into a 15 minute syringe and injected straight into my brain every time I watch your vids.
That sounds painful. Kind of reminds me of what they do in The Matrix with that cable in the back of the head. đđ
Gerald Undone Thanks to you my CPU is a neural net processor: a learning computer
Different movie but whatev you get the gist đ
Great. Well explained. Keep it up
good show. quite informative. i liked your way of presenting things.
Hey man love your videos, keep producing great content I can totally see you increasing your numbers exponentially
Thanks for saying that. Appreciate it.
A great bit of information. A bit over my head but I did grab the basics. Thank you.
You are the best.
You must be the greatest teacher of photography as well as photographers.
Awesome explanation of the various 4k implementations. I learnt alot. Thanks
You're welcome! Thanks for the comment. I'm glad it was useful. đ
Wow, amazing and simplified explanation as usual !!!
Love this Gerald. Thanks for putting so much time into it. I came to this video because I'm curious about the r5. No one seems to be talking much about the crop modes, but they seem interesting because the camera won't overheat. Wonder if you think 4K HQ mode might give similar results to 4K crop (but without any potential overheat issue...)
Another great video!
Great learning, beautiful presentation!
Keep it up ! Awesome informative videos, thanks Gerald Senpai
Very interesting explanation - thanks for posting this!
You need more popularity brother..... thank you for your informative videos...
You are very effective at explaining stuff. I finally get what moirĂ© means đ
Great stuff. Lots to absorb. Nicely presented.
Imagine googling any doubts you have regarding cameras and then you see a Gerald Undone video pop up in the results and you just go like, ALRIGHTY, HELL YEAH.
I love your videos and the way u explain things.. Subbed!!
Absolutely excellent presentation
Another superb video. Thank you so much for these! Mega pickles all the way
Superb production. The animations are especially helpful in understanding this arcane and complex subject. Your delivery is also very professional. Congrats. And THANKS! :)
Thank you very much, Peter! đđ
@@geraldundone you're welcome Gerald. Well deserved kudos.
I'm a retired cinematographer with many Hollywood credits. Also about 30 years experience in documentary production, mainly film.
Now, because you, I'm going to have to trade in my d800 for a z6. You should get a credit from Nikon. đ€Ș
Another exceptional video by Canadian!
Thank you. Excellent presentation
Superb job done đđŸ
Lookout Here comes 20K
Great job Gerald
I always learn so much
Thanks, Rick! If I'm real lucky I'll hit it on my birthday. Dec 4th. đ€

Maaaaaan... you're getting old.....JK
Happy Birthday, Bro ! !
Hope you hit that 20K for your B-Day
Great information as always đ !
Thanks, mate! đđ
You cleared my head. I always thought A7Riii is better than A7iii. Thanks for the info!
Genius stuff here. Man, between this kind of knowledge and that amazing first name you have you should have well over 100k subs by now!
Haha. Thanks, Gerald.
Do you get called Gerry much?
@@geraldundone I most certainly do. Growing up I went by Jerry as that's what my folks called me. As I got older I embraced what was in my opinion the more stately, Gerald. I feel it implies a more mature version of myself that I never quite live up to.
On Point! Thank you for this video everything included no blabla... Subscribed bro
Thank you! Appreciate the kind words and happy to have a new subscriber. Cheers! đđ
My friend would say "you are a machine" - in a good way - you never once skipped a beat in that entire explanation!
Interesting, detailed and useful!
Trying to work out if I should get a Sony 6700 or one of the APSC Nikons for video...
It wasn't exactly what I tried to get CZcams to pull up, but close enough :D
Pixel binning....... a very huge subject! Good job in this (very difficult) subject! đđđ
Thank you, MASTER Gerald!!
Great video, by the way! I'll share it on my social media sites.
Thanks, Darrell!
Great explanation. Thank you.
Your the best in the biz Gerald.
Killer video. Super informative!
Sweet video Gerald!
Just found your channel and you got a follower! I'm really glad because today i've really learned something new! Good job dude!

entertaining and knowledgeable. thanks for the video.
Thanks for teaching Maater!
Those were the greatest pix-ckles I've had so far !
Well (un)done !!!
Great video, as always.
Brilliant! Illuminating! And totally mega-pickle. Thanks Professor Undone
Cheers! đ„
Great video as usual.
That explains a lot, thanks for the video man.
Your videos make my inner geek happy, thanks mate :D
Stanly ok , you inner geek should be ware that all serious video is shot without pixel binning or line skipping. On a budget, have a look at the superb $1200 BMPCC4K. As for 4k crop, the a7r3 looks much nicer in in its high quality 1.5x 4k crop mode, and the Z7 looks much nicer in its 1.6x 4k crop mode. You have to ask why some on the Internet are dissing the EOSRs 1.8x crop non binning or line skipping 4k. Pixel match, or an exact multiple down scale, is the correct hifi way. This video totally misses the mark. Scaling binning or skipping non exact 2x multiples is bad. Do the math.
Nor Dic for all high budget projects Iâm renting Arri Alexa Mini or FS7. Nothing to geek out about Alexa btw, it simply does it job in the best way possible - no clever work-arounds or hacks. BMD Pocket 4K looks promising spec-wise, but have yet to try it out. Used to own BMD Production 4K and even though it was great on paper, IRL rarely chose it for a project. For all personal and not that high budget projects use my a7RII and it does great in both FOV modes, but codec is weak. Tried out EOS R and itâs a mess - pixel match doesnât help much :D pity thereâs no worthy camera to put those spectacular RF lenses on! I would switch for the lenses if there was something at least as capable as a73. BTW any kind of oversampling works if thereâs no pixel binning or line skipping. 2x would obviously work better than 1.6x, but worse compared to letâs say 2.3x. I also think itâs less CPU-intensive to write 8K than to oversample it to 4K in-camera. Cheers!
WOW, I had to watch this video a few times to understand what you are talking about. And you are simply saying BUY the Z6. Well this was a year ago, so what do you think of the camera now? Great and very very informative video! Thank you for sharing!
Great video! as usual.
Great information! Great video! :)
This analysis of the Nikon Z6 applies equally well to Nikon's 24 Mpix D5X00 and D7X00 cameras. These eariler cameras likewise use pixel binning to produce alias-free 1080p video. While they don't offer the Z6's 4K video modes, you can pick up them up refurbed for about a third of the Z6's price.
