@@Jbb7272 The environment of a game such as this might do more harm than good for one's future in tournament play. Or it might have no effect if he's fortunate. Throwing rocks in the road, doesn't necessarily make one a better driver, as such boulders don't arise under the formal setting. The excitement, fun and fame may well be worth the risk of boulders such as this. And from the standpoint of an evolutionary biologist, the benefit of fame gained from playing such a mate may actually be inherently beneficial, considering enhanced prospects as an artifact of fame. A Faustian bargain it might be, as one isn't inclined to touch inappropriately during tournament play, as so on streets of informal coffee-housed set. It would be remarkable to find out that this American champion ever once came close to making such a touching move during tournament play, as it seems here to be an artifact/consequence of the chaotic informal smack -talking setting. A public review of what some might consider a sanctimonious rant about the path to Grandmastership whilst the journey is well far motion by now, might be just as likely to benefit the issuer as the recipient. Lo, perhaps he's the teacher as well in this instance, and her enlightenment shall be the reverberating effect of this encounter in the end game.

Said rant be unlikely to improve the gentleman's game, as it's plenty enhanced through other means unassociated with this passing instance.

A very well-played game up until the time scramble. For most of the game, both sides played at a grandmaster level.
Regarding the dispute: the touch-move rule has been part of chess for the last 500 years, and Noah was wrong to try to take back his g-pawn move. As an example of proper sportsmanship, consider the 1960 game at Buenos Aires between Wolfgang Unzicker and the 17-year-old Bobby Fischer. In a difficult but salvageable position, Fischer touched his h-pawn, noticed at the last moment that his intended move exposed him to a tactic, and finally played an absurd move with the h-pawn in recognition of the touch-move requirement. Fischer didn't complain, and his opponent didn't have to appeal to the arbiter. Fischer accepted that he was responsible for his own mistake and followed the rules, even though it resulted in a terrible position that he lost in another 10 moves.

Morphy bob asked if they agreed to touch move and she said yes and Noah didn't said no. So my guess is that it was agreed on because Noah didn't deny it when she said they agreed. So if they agreed to it then it's not right for Noah to not follow his promise.
