  • As the Allies gained air superiority over Europe in 1944, the German military began seeing that some anti aircraft vehicles were necessary. This vehicle was based on the Panzer IV chassis mounting the 20mm Flakvierling. two later version were built, the Ostwind with a 37,, cannon, and the Kügelblitz with two 30mm cannons and a fully enclosed turret. Best design of them all was the Kügelblitz I think even though it only reached the prototype stage by the end of the war, one did see combat in Thuringen, and it is believed some were used in the Battle of Berlin. The Wirbelwind saw wider action in the war, with around 100 being built, but the 20mm cannon was not all that effective against aircraft it lacked range and multiple rounds would have to hit an aircraft to bring it down. There fore it was replaced with the 3,7cm cannon making the Flakpanzer IV Ostwind.
This model kit looks good I think, it is pretty normal for a Tamiya kit, and I think it will build up fine.
I would like a Kügelblitz too!
