    Imo the main problem with them, besides their terrible proportions, is that GW made a multi part plastic kit giving them LESS diverse poses and options than even the first edition terminators that came 4 or 5 years before that

    • @manofaction1807
      @manofaction1807 Před 25 dny +3

      They came out over priced, as the multi part kits came out in almost the same timeframe... They were leftover sculpts from the '95-96 version of Space Hulk, back in the infamous days of the plastic invasion....
      Nefarious bottom feeder Chucks were out there putting the 50.00 price tag on them, alongside the exact same figures, still out in Metal.

    It was thanks to that space hulk game I even got interested into Warhammer.
    We were having a "bring a toy to school" day at school, one kid brought his box of space hulk and another of his friends brought some of those old monopose plastic reptile skinks, I had no idea what any of this was but I just knew it was cool as can be 😎, so a few years later my mum bought me the 3rd edition starter set and the paint set for 40k, i then immediately spilled Bad Moons yellow paint on my trousers

It blows my mind that GW don't make new moulds for some of the most in-demand early sculpts and just sell them in blisters for community good will. They clearly know considering how well the Tribute Noisemarine sold.

    Space Marine Terminators, Terminators of Space Marines. I bought that edition of Space Hulk from discount books and arts and crafts store; The Works back in the day. Myself and a few friends got a copy each, I'm sure they were about £5 each, brand new and sealed. I remember going back a few days later and asking if they had anymore, and the guy behind the till telling me that as soon as the local Games Workshop found out, everyone had come down to clean them out!

    The yellow armor looks absolutely fantastic.
    Oh man. The first model I ever had for anything tabletop related was a metal Terminator with assault cannon (Albeit the metal version of these sculpts). They were under the glass counter at a local game/comic shop, having been already painted pretty nicely. I had no idea what it was but I loved how it looked, it was so unlike anything else. I believe I paid $7 for it, around 1999. I didn't learn it was part of a game until I brought it to school to show a friend, and another boy in class looked over and say "Do you play Warhammer?".

    Fascinating watch but I do think you made life hard for yourself with the banner. I did the same thing in Word when building my metal mini's in the 90's. The difference is I used colour fill to colour the background on the banner, Ultramarines blue. I then coloured each image that I then inserted into the banner. All of this was done at 6 times the size of the banner required for the marine and once I was happy with everything, I reduced the size of the cell I had built it in and printed it out. The banner still sits on the banner pole today. It is older than a lot players and still has that vibrant colour.

    THAT kit right there was the beginning of the end for Games Workshop. In our neck of the galaxy, those damned terminators were priced out of reach at $50.00 for a box of 5.
    They were all left over plastics from that iteration of Space Hulk, which was, at the time, famously under printed. The Space Hulk game of the time was out for no less then 2-4 months, over ordered, and under released. It was the stuff of legends, how badly GW dropped that ball.
    They rank up there in hushed tones of discussion of the Beret wearing Storm Troopers... 25.00 for a box containing 6 of the exact same molded figure...

    Wow, they take me back. It must've been somewhere around 2003-2005, I was out on a week away with the Scouts, with my twin brother. We had some pocket money for the week (probably £20) and we saved all of it for the day trip into Poole town centre. I bought a box of Dark eldar warriors and my brother bought this set of terminators. Imagine our glee when we found out the terminators were snap fit.
    We played some very small games of 40k (basically proto kill-team) on a table with a 30cm ruler and a single d6 we scrounged from somewhere. Man, that was a fun week (amongst other things got chased into a wheat field by some young offenders camping next door who'd broken curfew and were looking to beat us up, then getting rounded up by our scoutmasters to get traumatised by Sleepy Hollow of all things). Thanks for posting this, really gave me an attack of the warm fuzzies. I must be getting old!

    I thought these were amazing, I had been playing 1st edition space hulk for years, and the 2nd ed ones felt like a huge upgrade, in 1st edition, there was only 1 sculpt, with a clip on heavy flamer, this plastic boxed set was great, because it worked out about 1/3 of the price of the metal ones, and you could actually carry a 30 strong terminator Deathwing army to your mates house on your pushbike, without requiring a back brace when you get there.

  • @gdonaldson26
    @gdonaldson26 Před 24 dny

    Yeah, those plastic ones were mince. I had a lovely set of metal terminators (assault cannon) and a set of metal close combat terminators with both lightning claws and thunder hammer chaps. Heavy, and prone to falling over, but they were great. Still, these plastic ones done the job as I procured them from my pal who had that edition of Space Hulk.

  • @daiatnara971
    @daiatnara971 Před 24 dny

    They're a definite step down from the metal Terminators of the time, but let's not forget the Space Hulk v1 Terminators - limited in movement and uninspired in pose as these v2 boys are, they're an improvement. Yours look great too, that effort setting up the base yellow with its underlying shadows really paid off. I still have my Space Hulk complement of these, and with ten to play with I did get a little carried away with poses on a couple of them. All-time favourite remains the first metal Cyclone though, I don't think any of the later bolt-on-box versions look as cool, even the modern ones.

    I found out these old termies are pretty easy to fix proportions wise if you add an abdominal spacer between the chest and pelvis with greenstuff. It gives them a lot of poseability, adds some much needed height and most importantly, makes them look less stunted. If you put them on the bigger bases it also really helps. Still I do really appreciate you leaving them in their original style :)

Played a couple of games of 7th then quit for 6 years. 2nd has more character which is why I make videos on it now. But I would love to play 3rd again. It was a fast and slick system. Not flawless but fun.

      @@Miniscape-wh40k Solid answer, thank you!
      I have heard some murmuring online of both 2nd and 3rd having something of a cult revival, as people prefer their "characterful" design philosophy. A lot of old hands seem to find the current game rather soulless - myself included. As such, many seem to be going back to previous editions - partly for nostalgia, but also because the games were just... better.
      If the mood ever takes you, I'd love to see some love given to 3rd edition. Also, if you ever decide to team up with another channel for another battle report (such as Minisodes), I'm very much all here for it.
