      I think the problem will be finding four guns that work, these cannons are so old and saw no service outside of WW2,the likelihood of finding a single gun is low, finding four of them is next to impossible, ironically i believe the United states has some two dozen guns as registered full autos for civilian sale, but ITAR would make getting them to Canada next to impossible.

    • @tex8564
      @tex8564 Před 4 lety +3

      Well the reason alot of things are in a "preservation" state is because theres not enough machinery to get them running. If you're truly passionate about restoring history you will get as many examples of vehicles as possible in running, OR a realistic time period accurate cosmetic state, look at the Maus, the only reason we have one is because it's in a cosmetic only restoration due to there only being 2 built, is the Current Maus not good enough because it isn't running? No. It's good enough considering, should we try and get it running if the machinery becomes available? Well in the Maus's case thats a hard choice because the Machinery, engine, transmission, Running gear ETC, should be in a museum in and of it's self.
      Now then, the point I'm trying to make is, sometimes you have to choose on what you have to do, just because you can doesn't mean you should. Trying to get a Tank or vehicle running may do more harm than if it was a static display, it could cause damage to the body that could turn it into a static display anyway ot crack the chassis, these tanks are 60+ years old and many of them have been sitting outside for half of that and some have been blown to pieces, as such they aren't in the best condition to be running around.
      If you think running condition is the only "proper" restoration, there is something wrong with you.
      There's so many rare vehicles from WW2 that don't have any surviving examples that the History community would give blood for to have a Example Static or Running, don't get me wrong if you can and the vehicle is in a good enough condition you should try and get it running.
      Now then im not trying to be rude or anything but wtf? A vehicle being restored to running being the only Proper Restoration is the single stupidest thing i think I've heard all year, and its something I've sadly seen to much in this comment section.

      The guns in the vehicle are toast, they where demilitarized when the vehicle became a display, I think they had holes cut in their receivers, thus are non functional, they have to go source new guns from somewhere else, and the only working examples are in the USA and Russia, the US has about 2 dozen give or take transferable 20MM german cannons on the NFA registry and Russia has some working examples in museums.
      buying full auto ones from the US would cost more then the rest of the project and Russia won't give up theirs, sad to say this is never going to be a live vehicle again.

    Excellent ! German tanks, trucks equipment is so interesting ! Nice project and story's, my father was a USA WWII Vet and mentioned that equipment was all over the place ! He mentioned a few times, had he known that German helmets, equipment etc was going to have such values $ he would had brought more back with him Go ARMY

      It amazes me , the prices ww2 items get; I was at an Arai action in Edmonton, Canada,a few years back, someone's estate contained numerous officers hats from various nations, Vietnam era airman gear, & some ww2 stuff- a plain iron cross sold for about $80 , yet a dented, crusty German helmet went for almost $300...( I believe it had the ss insignia on the side. maybe that's why so pricey)
      * I bought an 80's Russian parachute, no lines or canopy, just harness & chute, if anyone is interested , contact me & I can email pics.@( it IS on Kijiji.ca/ British Columbia, Canada)
      * I went to the auction Because there were huge boxes of unopened plastic model kits, obscure airplanes, but they went for ridiculous prices! - bought the chute, some tools, & a Chinese chainsaw!

    I remember seeing this tank on display. Then one day it was gone. Just fresh tracks as it got pulled over the grass. I thought it would be restored but not to running condition. Really glad they are doing it. I knew it was rare when I saw it but did not know it was that rare.

    Pretty rare bird. I was introduced to the Whirbewind when I was a kid and built the D-Day model diorama kit. It came with 4 AFVs and a large two-gun bunker. Cant remember who made it tho. Had alot of fun playing with the 1/72 scale?? soldiers.

    This was one of my favorite vehicles on Metal Saga for the PS2. It was a Tank Centered JRPG game, with a barrel of giggles/laughs along with it. Imagine enemies like Giant Apples with Kitchen Knives, and an enemy General named Blueberry who's attacks revolve around him doing zero damage, while sipping a glass of fine wine, while another boss did sonic attacks by just flexing his pecks. But the Wirbelwind was one of the vehicles you could get by doing a specific quest, it was nice because you could customize it with any anti aircraft guns. My favorite combination was flat out four 37mm Flak guns.

    Just love the Flakpanzer IV, “Whirbelwind”. It was an amazing AAA, and anti infantry platform. Didn’t realize it’s anti infantry potential until I started playing ASL, and had one on my OB in a scenario called “The Road to Wiltz”. Awesome video Chieftain!
