  • I put the 360-degree propeller guard through tests such as high winds battery consumption and collision and here is my opinion on how they performed and held up.

    Anyone watching just be advised, DJI drones do have impact detection and shut down for safety. So if you hit something hard enough it will still shut down and fall.
    The drone knows when you are using propeller guards and obstacle avoidance will be disabled automatically when they are installed, so you still need to fly safely.

      Thanks for the comment. I didn't know that it just shuts down upon impact, but it does make sense. Thanks, for education.

    Tried those initially, and while the concept is okay, the weight it adds, well you’d do better flying on a clean clear open space…There are some much smaller, lighter ones to get that are NOT DJI. For practice flying with kids and first timers, it might be a good idea.

      I didn't see the lighter ones; they would have probably been better for what I use them for. These really cut down on manoeuvring and can be really cumbersome. Thanks for the comment and info.

    Good info, just note they add some wind resistance also and there is a risk it can get hooked up on a branch if you fly too close around trees and bushes.⚠️😊
    Mostly I think they're for indoor use for novice pilots.
    I added your channel, hopefully you'll connect with another Mini drone pilot? 👍

      Honestly better off using the drones built in obstacle detection vs using these.

      Yes, they do make after-market, look them up on google and see if any catch your eye. I saw a few sets I Considered trying before I purchased mine. Thanks for watching.

    Hi does the guards block the sensors

    • @Southland816
      @Southland816  Před 10 dny

      Yes, they obstruct obstacle avoidance you can't use it when they are on, Thanks for watching.

    If the Drone detects the guards does RID activate as well?

    • @Southland816
      @Southland816  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Ok, so according to DJI, RID will only activate with the plus battery, and it says do not use prop guards and the plus battery together. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching.

    Can you do a video of it going into like a tree with obstacle avoidance on will it survive, crashing into a tree falling down?

    • @Southland816
      @Southland816  Před 5 měsíci +1

      From my experience it will not detect smaller branches and will fly into them and crash. I have seen it avoid larger branches such as the diameter of your fingers but smaller ones the size of twigs (pencil size and smaller) will cause it to crash. Thanks for the comment.

      The guards block the obstacle avoidance optics/cameras.

    • @Southland816
      @Southland816  Před 6 měsíci

      When it works properly (O.A.) and in some situations, it requires turning it off. I would prefer a backup option. Check out my no B.S. review on the mini 4 pro and see some of the problems I had with Obstacle avoidance. Thanks for the comment and watching.

    • @Piratepoilet
      @Piratepoilet Před 5 měsíci

      I fly my mini 4 pro with the O.A turned off almost all the time. When I brought my mini 4 pro I thought I would never turn off the sensor's but now I find I hardly ever turn them on. It's just a bit annoying with all the red lines and beeping, I thought I was having a heart attack. As "Philly Drone Life" channel on CZcams would say "I'm freeking dieing up here" lol 😂

      If I was flying in a wooden area or I count sew power linea I use these often.
      For the following reasons
      1. The gaurds provide some protection if the drone falls out of the sky.
      2. Protection against cables
      3. When flying for clienwhen I am unfamiliar with the area.
      4. If my drone gets damaged while on site for a client it's GAME OVER!
      This last point is the most important as then I have to waste time getting the drone repaired or replaced.
      In some cases this means..
      Loss of income on any potential jobs while my drone is being repaired.
      Possible loss of that client.
      So I will use prop gaurds to cover all of these circumstances.
      But what do I know I have only been flying R/C craft for 50 years 😊

      Obstacle avoidance misses a bunch of stuff. It's nowhere near being able to substitute for awareness and safe flight. Don't get me wrong it's a nice feature, but DJI Care Refresh is better.
