This is a pretty old clip. Unfortunately, Sylvia passed away in 2012. I'm pretty sure her family is keeping up the tradition, though.
Stephen White unfortunately it’s not like what it used to be, just not much care is put into it anymore :(. Her niece owns a restaurant though in NY, and it has the classic Sylvias kitchen taste.

Having lived in NYC nearly all my life I’ve been fortunate enough to have eaten at both of theses places several times over the years. Absolutely loved them both. I’ve since retired and moved away and miss this type of food every day.

I luckily lived not far from the city most of my life and have eaten at many popular NYC restaurants over my years. Sylvia’s fried chicken was definitely in the top three I’ve ever eaten for sure lol. Katz is a different kind of place obviously. As you know too well it’s a tourist trap and their prices are insane - but Christ almighty their sandwiches are delicious. I have my mouth watering just thinking about those pastrami and mustard lol
I love reading comments from people who hve actually been to these places. Cause I hve only seen it on a screen obviously. It literally is another world away from where I live in "The Most Isolated City On Earth".

@@chrisdooley6468 I completely agree. It was a good sandwich, no doubt. But overall a waste of time and money. I mean c’mon, is it really worth waiting in a line that goes down the street for a $25 pastrami on rye? It was nice to experience once, but I’m never going back.
The Sylvia's chef had such a happy personality.

Im from the UK and I went to the US in 2019 to work at a summer camp and when i finished i stayed in NEW YORK and because of this show and Adam i went to SYLVIA'S and honestly the best food ive eaten
Katz's and Sylvia's are completely different. Both are must visit restaurants if you're in NYC. Both are iconic and both serve delicious food.
Sylvia is more like eating what a classier hobo would cook
I remember watching this back in the day and went to both places when I visited New York, unbelievable food highly recommend it to anyone going to NYC. The service at both places are great as well, extremely friendly.
Well Katz's deli is permanently closed they lost it during the pandemic

I went to Katz’s 9 years ago, and I absolutely loved the pastrami sandwich I had! Adam is 100% correct about these guys!
They’re extremely rude tho. At Sylvia’s you feel far more welcome and wanted.

Well, that and there are no short cuts when making proper soul food. A lot of the prep is time consuming, and a lot of the dishes are cooked slowly over the period of several hours.

I was out one day in Rochester Minnesota & this guy approached me and we started talking and I gave him a ride somewhere and later he called me and I met his wife & we got to be pretty good friends & after helping him out a couple times he invited me to dinner and he and his wife were from down South and they cooked some great food.. it was definitely one of those soul food type meals and we were making hot water cornbread haha.. there was so much actually

It’s really good. If you want to pay 20 for a chain pizza or an awesome pastrami or corned beef.
It’s $4 for a gallon of milk. $20 for an awesome sandwich isn’t that bad

Despite having been to NYC three times, I haven’t been to either of these restaurants.
I'm surprised they don't pass out a pair of the cooks gloves with every rib order. I use disposable mechanics gloves at home with ribs.

With a higher cost of living, they have to pay their employees a more as well as other higher costs. That's why most of us stay out of NYC. It's worth a visit but it's a hell hole to live in.
You get 3/4 of a pound of beef. Beef is at least 8 bucks a pound wholesale. Factor in labor, overhead, etc.
Really? I bought a brisket at my local supermarket 4 weeks ago for 1.99/lb and made my own corned beef.

I live 4 blocks away from Katz's. People complain about the price of the sandwich but its seriously 2 meals which puts it less than shakeshack lol. I have eaten a whole sandwich a few times and after just unbearably full...

Last week, 27$ was the price of the pastrami on rye at Katz.... TWENTY SEVEN DOLLARS!!!!!! If you just want a normal sandwhich, do this - get the sandwhich, then for like a buck or 2 get the 2 rye bread slices. Then the half sandwhich makes two, it's like 37.5% of 3/4 pound which is uhh, you do math k?

Why do I get the feeling that this place tastes different then the one we have here in Houston TX.
It's not the same place, the deli in Houston stole its good name and was lucky the owners of Katz's didn't sue them.
Totally different company, the Texas stores used Katz's good name to get a foothold in the business. The NYC Katz's didn't sue because it's not worth it.
We sat in the Harry met Sally table and had the best sandwich in the F-ing WORLD
