A few things to build personal and family discipline:
1. Break electronic addictions to cellphone, social media, etc
2. Do mild endurance exercises for stamina & strength
3. Change sleep habits to get more rest & reduce reliance on clocks
4. Practice fasting & night security watch
5. Take care of spiritual health - prayerful Scripture study
6. If it fits, get to know your neighbors - whom to potentially help or go to, whom to avoid
7. Learn to walk places instead of drive
8. Cook simple nutritious food, both to build strength & reduce reliance on others such as fast food, delivery, etc.
9. Learn to play card & board games again to replace TV & internet
10. Read real books and study maps of your area

Already done it. After tornadoes of 2011 we didn’t have anything but what we already had. I cooked outside. In 1996 had ice storms. No power no phone freezing weather. We stayed warm by huddling together. Just me a teenager and two small sick kids.

No my friend…it doesn’t take 72 hrs. For the stores to be stripped of goods….been there, done that…it’s gone by 24 to 36 hrs…..seriously…..
Generally speaking, you have 4 hours of 'normalcy' before people start to panic. IF you can keep your cool, then you can use that time to shop for food, get your gas reserves up, etc and even get out of Dodge. If you CAN'T keep your cool, you'll start a chain reaction that will bring the chaos on faster.
Within just a few hours roads can be blocked and clogged. The decision to get out of dodge needs to happen immediately in many areas.
If you choose to use a bicycle, be careful as pedestrians will knock you down for the bicycle. Consider railroad tracks out of the city as a possibility to leave.

Stores could be shut on day 1, the manager IS smart.
Many stores close if their computerized registers don’t work. Even if they take cash, many people don’t keep cash or enough to get a lot of groceries.
The government will most likely can not help for a few weeks. Those that do help like Fema, Red Cross have to help their families first. Then they can start helping the communities. This is what is taught in CERT. Make sure you home is safe before you go out and help in the community. This is why you need to be a good preper for you own home.

Try the dollar stores to beef up your pantry. Aldi is also a good option. Watch your grocery store weekly sales flyers and take advantage of those. To cook, if you have a charcoal grill use it for cooking. Not in the house because that will kill you with carbon monoxide fumes. If you're lucky enough to have a gas stove, you can light it with matches or a long lighter. Stay safe. Canned food you can eat without heating the contents.
when you buy meat season and cook it up then vacuum seal and freeze it it will save time and fuel and worse comes to worse you can eat it cold or put in go bag if it’s summer time find a stream and put in the water to keep it fairly cold
I would suggest not cooking outside as hungry people will be attracted to the smells. Try to avoid attracting others. Best to have a month+ of food that doesn’t have to be cooked. Be prepared to crush your trash and dispose of it discreetly as a lot of trash will tell people you have food.
@@kenyonbissett3512 yes I agree on not advertising the fact that you have food, but if it comes down to it, eating and sharing is better than not eating at all. We can safely eat food out of the cans or jars without risking exposure. I live in the country and sometimes I don't speak for everyone. I could cook and there's not anyone around to smell it.

If you think about every disaster as bad as it got it never got THAT bad, why? Well because other states came to the aid, we had federal money and agencies like FEMA, we had other states like power line workers from other states rolling in mass down to those areas, we had help. The thing you have to plan for is when they don't come. When something happens and to where the other states have to take care of their own family, their own areas, their own stuff. That is when things will go bad.
