My favorite part? The fact that this became a family project. Excellent and looks great!
Awesome! Thank you! Yeah it was a good time for a group project for sure.
I love “real” videos like this. Nothing fake or magical video edits. You guys should start a business; people can mail in their covers and your hand paint it. As long as the price is less than GM, you may fi
nd a market.
Thanks for the nice feedback! Yeah just never enough time in the day
that flag looks great. the cover just pops. and know your saving everyone 500 bucks thanks for the video.
It looks beautiful. What a handy job! Keep more contents going. Thank you.
Can’t wait to try this on my corvette!
Great! Let us know how it comes out
Awesome Video. Thanks for sharing. Going to try and tackle mine now.
Thanks! Good luck with yours! Let us know how you make out
Great job, looks amazing, can’t wait to try it on my C8
Have fun! Thanks for watching. Let us know how it turned out
This made me look at the OEM Edge Red cover and this looks way better. The emblem is just all red on the OEM and the Corvette metal pieces are black with white letters. I'd do this over buying a $495 cover that doesn't look as good as this. I'm sure my local auto paint store can mix up a can of Edge Red. They even have cans with hardener in the bottom portion that you release and mix before spraying.
Fantastic job folks 👏 thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the nice feedback. Glad you liked!
Did mine a week ago and very happy with the results. Taped off the flag emblem too so only needed black for some minor touch up. Also finished up by clear coating the entire cover for a more uniform gloss finish.
Great! Glad to hear. Enjoy it!
Very nice job indeed. The result was spot on, and it looks like a fun project. Now I await my 2022 C8 which should arrive by “whenever”.
Thanks! Fun project. Let us know how you make out
I did the decals totally amazing! Done by a pro!
Looks amazing. Awesome job.
Thanks a bunch! Glad you liked
this was great thanks - looks great!
Glad you liked it! Thanks! Cheers!
looks fantastic !
Thanks!
Wow, looks great , she did an amazing job on the flags !!
Thanks! I think so too!
Great job👍
Sweet… that emblem really popped! Gotta do this if mine ever shows up.
Thanks! let us know how yours comes out
Isabella has a job when I paint my cover lol! Great job on cover!
Thank you!! 😁
Good job guys! Im from australia and its crazy that these cars dont come with all this done in the first place especially for the price of them even those these cars are hands down best bang for your buck in my opinion. Over here in aus we have our top end hsv (holden special vehicle) and fpv (ford performance vehicle) and they dont even come with a spare wheel hahah.
Thanks! I hear you''ll be getting some right hand drive C8's over there pretty soon.
@@garagetoyzllc2248 yeah its good we are starting to get some of the american cars over here the only down side is how much they put the price up when they get here 😂
Nice symbol! Well worth the effort!
looks amazing! Good job! Chevy discontinued the red engine covers, I will probably buy a red cover since I suck at painting and DIY stuff lol
No they didn’t
Very good video, looks amazing. I was wondering how is the hand painted flag holding up since you used acrylic model paint?
Nice job on painting your C8 engine cover. My question is this; you did not use any high temperature specific paint and I'm wondering if that will present any issues for the future since the engine compartment get very hot?
Nice family!
The cover looks like the day it was installed after a nice hot summer. We used a high heat clear coat
That was my ques too. Thanks
Good job
Great job, but I did notice the Gold Bow Tie has a thin black outline in the printed picture.
How does it hold up to cleaning with water? Like pressure washing but not up close of course or just rinsing using a hose sprayer pressure which is a lot less than a pressure washer even at a distance? Also did you use a plastic adhesion promoter before laying down the primer as paint is known to flake off of plastics easier than panels. Thanks and turned out amazing! Teamwork makes the dream work.
Awesome informative video. Wondered during the 2 days of enamel drying did you have tie down the cable and hose supports that either bolt down to the corner or use the clip in front while driving the car or just leave them loose? Your daughter, Isabella did a great job with the detail work...wondered if I could borrow her for mine LOL? I doubt if my older eyes could focus for 3 hours for the emblem painting.
I actually bought an extra cover off EBAY to do this so I didn't have to drive it without a cover on it. Yes! She did a great job
Nice video and kids 👍🏻
Thank you very much! Glad you enjoyed the vid
I wonder how much the engine heat will effect the paints that are not high heat paints, especially the model paints.
That’s exactly what I was thinking....
So far no issues. Put a couple hundred miles on it and everything looks great. The model paint is probably the most durable of the paints I used on this, once it was cured. It's a tough oil based enamel. With that said, everyone should do their own research to be comfortable enough with what products they use on their car.
@@garagetoyzllc2248 The engine cover will not see the temperature as say the valve covers but it's all closed in, so it could get hot but maybe not hot enough to effect the paints you chose. I didn't previously mention it but it goes with out saying, you and your daughter did a beautiful job on the cover and saved hundreds of dollars in the process. Not to mention the satisfaction, that you all did it.
Great video you saved 600 dollars
You bet. Fun project too!
Cool!!!
thx
Nice!
Thank you! Cheers!
Since you didn't use high heat paint are you having any issues with the paint bubbling or coming off??
Hi you did a wonderful job, I'm here in the UK and just in the process of painting my C8 engine cover, did you sand the logo before applying the enamel paints or just paint straight on top of the gloss red?,and did you clear coat just the logo or the whole cover
no sanding at all. cleared the entire cover. looks like the day we did it
Good clear easy to follow video. Your Grade is an A.
Are the GT1 seats more comfortable for daily driving than the GT2 seats assuming they are both in a 2LT? I'm considering the LT3 but I can't choose GT1 seats and if they are more comfortable that's more important to me.
I'm 6'4" with and average torso width. I find the GT1 seats bolsters very tight and I'm not overweight. Well maybe a few lbs....The seats hold you snug but I don't find the seats that comfortable. Fine for the normal trips here and there but they would be a nightmare for any long periods of time. I would try to find some to go sit in before you order. I'm glad i went with the GT1. The GT2 and 3 just get more snug
I used paint pens, on my C7
Very nice!!! Saved yourself $400 dollars 😊
Yes! Thank you! Who doesn't like saving $ right?
@@garagetoyzllc2248 I did mine also. It came out great 😊
Good thing I have an artistic daughter that can paint. I'll let her paint the emblem.
Did you end up using the clear coat? That goes after putting the red torch i imagine. And how long after.
Waited a couple days for the symbol to dry then put 3 coats of high heat clear coat
What if anything did you do to prep the cover for primer?
Just wiped it down with a slightly damp cloth and then blow dried it with compressor air
Great video!
How's it holding up after a year?
Looks like the day we installed it!
Hows the paint holding up to the heat..... Are those high heat paint or just regular paint?
Cover look like the day we put it in. No issues. The base coat was regular paint. Clear was high heat.
What brand & Colour of paint was that for the torch red?
Duplicolor BGM0510 Torch Red (70 WA9075, 9076)
Does that red March the valve covers? I’d like to do this but my car isn’t red so I want to match the valve cover color.
No we used the Torch red that matches the outside of the car. You would have to find a paint to match the valve covers. Think its called "edge red". Good luck
GM sells a edge red cover. Check eBay they are usually around $300. It's edge red with black rails
did you sand before paint?
No, i just took a tack cloth and removed any dust/dirt on the cover. Then primed it
turn the can upside down and spray it out and the paint wont sputter after.
Might just buy one instead.
Family team work. I am looking for the C8, but they are $20k over the sticker price. :(
Yeah, right now is a tough time to buy one because of the supply/demand. You could always put an order in with a dealer and wait for an allocation to get one at MSRP. Good luck with finding one!
Tamiya makes paint pens...
Hey nice Vettcamaro
Thanks! Fun project!
They are printing corvette to fit in corvette on cover. $10.00
not my jam
Not bad but alot of work.you should of bought one of ours for 100 bucks
