  • I'm not a huge fan of Missile Command in the arcades and the Replicade version from New Wave Toys has flaws. So why did I get one?

I cant imagine how many quarters i fed those machines back in the 80s. Those look so cool.

I love the quality of these reproductions, it definitely takes me back to those days. Asteroids was my gateway into New Wave Toys and I really hope they make some more good ones in the future. This one is ....... fine.

the joy of missile command for me, as I recall from "back in the day" at the arcades, was using your hand to spin that ball supper fast across the screen. You needed to feel that weight of it and needed that "coasting" motion of the ball as it continued to roll. There's no other way to replicate that feeling of the weight. You could get or make something that could recreate that feeling.

I wonder if anyone has modded this with a heavier "marble" trackball instead. Wouldn't be that surprising to me.

Neat cabinet! They do a good job replicating the original cab.

oh yeah the quality on the craftsmanship on these things is top notch .... feels like someone took an original cab and used a shrink ray on it

You know, if I ever had the room, then these things are cool, but I just don't....Nice quality, although the trackball sounds very scratchy however its very cute and looks fun. Great purchase. Excelsior

Luckily I haven't been too enamored with lots of their cabinets del or I'd be out of room myself. Hoping for the future being good from the manufacturer. Thanks as always for watching!

Man after seeing this I'm glad I missed out on Centipede. Small spinners are nice (Taito's for Nintendo DS is great), small trackballs are a nightmare.

I agree ... also I heard a rumor the Centipede trackball drained the battery when the unit was turned off but they possibly fixed that in a firmware upgrade. Luckily this one doesn't have that trouble

Wonder if you can silicone parts of the trackball to help.

Tip from a non-expert: the centre base fires faster than the edge bases so flood from one side to the other with an edge base (opposite base to the cursor) and clean up with the centre base. Repeat for second wave. Not an all-winning strategy but a good start.
Doesn't look like a bad little system there mind!

Thanks! I'll give that a try. I remember seeing a Missile Command expert at the Seattle Pinball show years ago playing and he seemed to be doing exactly that strategy so I'll definitely give it a shot.

Would love a Tron version of one of these. Don't know how they'd do the joystick though.

I'd totally buy Tron done this way. Admittedly the way that cabinet does a joystick combined with a spinner might be super hard to miniaturize. And licensing would be hard, I suspect.
