    I love rain chains but they're so expensive. I'm going to keep an eye out for candle holders. Never thought to use those. Thanks for the vid.

    Suggest forming that half link in the gutter like this to avoid it pulling out -u- use a whole link to bend the u shape with ears

    Beautiful and well thought out except for how you attached it at the top. I don't think that will be secure enough, especially in areas where rain turns to ice in the winter. Maybe hang it where the gutter is attached to the house, or use a gutter attachment to hang it from?

      Good eye !
      Yes just a long screw angled downward into the fascia board -pull the chain through the bottom & hang the chain on the screw head --the screw doesn't get screwed all the way in .

    A straight piece of metal such as a nail would have been better inside the gutter. That curved piece will eventually pull thru the hole.

    How do I keep mosquitos from breeding in the rain barrel?

    • @Oshbotscom
      @Oshbotscom Před 10 lety +1

      You can cover the barrel opening with window screen.

      There is this product, "Mosquito Dunks", you drop the tablet into the barrel and it kills mosquitos and prevents their eggs from hatching. It's non-toxic. You should also screen off any openings in the barrel.

    You are still getting a lot of splashing. A smaller hole in the guttering might mean a smaller flow and less splash.

    I would not be keen on personally drilling a hole in my expensive gutters... but that is just me. I would try and find another areaa that gets a lot of water ..

    The gutters on my house are made out of copper. What kind of metal can I use for a Rain Chain?

    • @anuppatel8281
      @anuppatel8281 Před 10 lety +3

      You can use any material for the rain chain it self...as long as you like how it looks. But the hook connecting it do the gutters should be copper to avoid galvanic corrosion.

      I would say aged copper to look like your gutter. There is probably some way to do that, but I'm not sure how. Probably something to do with chemicals

      I'd use a plastic pipe, it saves on the mess when you have water, algae and moss all over yout porch
