    Excellent audio quality & reception for both AM and FM. It is a joy to listen to in my office, despite the tiny mono speaker. I don't know how XHDATA did that.
    SW is surprisingly good with built in antenna, although it seems to get overloaded with my longwires. This is my first SW radio and was a good introduction.
    Todderbert's videos helped me choose this and I may upgrade for DXing.

      No quality issues noted. The text on the buttons is a bit low-res and the buttons are tough to see in the dark; I just need to memoise the board.

    Don't forget! You can hold the MW, FM, and SW buttons to ATS your presets respectively. Moreover, SW- will ATS everything. SW+ will ATS within the current band. It's by far my favorite feature. I think that's much easier than manually setting up 10kh step presets.

    This is one of my most favorite radios and very sensitive. It’s works as well as my Sangean 909x2 and Tecsun 990. Don’t be fooled just Because it’s much cheaper then the other radios.

    I lucked out recently and Amazon had a deal for $37.00 including shipping. I'm really enjoying this radio. Like you said, the sound quality is really nice (for any sized radio) but so surprisingly nice for this tiny one. I think the only drawback for me (besides of lack of SSB, but I was okay with that) is the occasional imaging problems. I ordered a MLA 30+ antenna but haven't tried it yet. I've heard that it will probably overload it. I'm just hoping it will lower the EMI effects.

    • @todderbert
      @todderbert  Před rokem +2

      I've noticed overload on just the whip antenna. it is sensitive, so I just lower the antenna, or use my downstairs wire antenna that extends to the window, but stays inside.

    Dr. Todderbert,
    Nice radio but tends to lock up. If you just go to one or two functions and leave it be usually you’re ok. The reset gets you out of lock up. Good review as usual. Thank you.

    • @todderbert
      @todderbert  Před 11 měsíci

      Might be a BT issue. I have not had a lockup with this radio. Probably because I don't use the BT function.

  • @dheerajchidambaranathan

    You forgot to mention that this radio automatically selects the external antenna for both SW and FM when an external antenna is connected. I was shocked to see that since the manual doesn't tell you how to do it but does mention it! :)

    I have better radios, but for some reason I really like this one. I use it a lot while out doing POTA, often using the Bluetooth feature and listening to podcasts while I play radio. Transmitting on 15 meters does drop fm signals, but no interference when on 20. Solid radio, well worth the price. I got it a few months ago while on sale for $36 or so, great deal.

  • @sandybottom6623
    @sandybottom6623 Před rokem

    If you wrap a coil of wire around the radio and attach the ends to long lengths of wire you will be able to receive MW signals in the evening from great distances - 2,500 miles.

    • @radellaf
      @radellaf Před 7 měsíci

      I bought a long ferrite for a couple bucks, wrapped 26awg insulated wire around it, and connect one end to the SW long wire and the other to a ground rod or single wire run along the ground, and it really brings in everything on any radio, as long as it's within about six inches of the rod. I put a 1/8" jack on the wiring so I can easily swap between radios that have a jack and ones that don't.

    Do I need to leave town to DX? Or just wait until night. I was wondering 💭 if ya can DX on this radio 📻. Too bad this hasn’t been 🆙graded for Bluetooth headphones 🎧 or speakers 🔊. Tip, ya don’t always want the backlight on, if you’re using batteries 🔋, this will cause excessive battery 🔋 consumption. Your friend, Jeff.

      Tune to your station, then press the memory button, a number will flash on the top right. Select a position between 1-100 with the tuning knob then press Memory again before it stops flashing. Enter VM mode by pressing that button, and now you can scroll through your presets with the tuning knob. Press VF to go back to normal tuning mode.

    My D-109 is screwy as all get out but it kicks butt sound wise so all that goes by the boards. It also has really good sensitivity on AM/FM. The bandwidth control is very useful in AM/SW mode so play around with it. I have had a lot of goofy errors with this radio requiring resets so I've gotten used to resetting it a lot (2 seconds with a toothpick). The longer you blare this thing out in the hot sun the better the speaker sounds. The D-109 is meant to be played hard so let's get this party started while there's still some Summer left.

    • @dosgos

      I love the bandwidth control on AM/SW. Maybe my favourite feature.
