The real issue with sapphire is that it reflects much more light than glass, and this is why it hasn't made its way to smartphones yet. The image look less crisp/bright through saphire, which is exacerbated outdoors, under sunlight. There are plenty of fitness watches using sapphire glass and you can see the difference for yourself
Francisco Chaves that’s true in the light, but on watches it is till manageable. I can see how annoying that could get with a phone tho. Still, in the dark I think it actually looks crisper and more defined, at least in the watches I’ve seen
But there's a screen protector made out of literal sapphire though?

2:00 just look how much more like it reflects, under direct sunlight it is even worse. Screen aren’t only about durability
So you mean that screen is just a thing to attach? 😅
@@balakajan4983 He's saying that the screen is very reflective that using it outdoors especially in direct sunlight would be difficult considering that the screen will reflect the sunlight and would make it hard to see
Would you compromise durability for reflections?
@@ChrisAngel. Yes. Because what we have today is durable enough to survive basic drops and scratches. As an outdoor person myself, I prefer the less reflective glass.
@@ChrisAngel. And if you do damage your phone today, then its on you, not the manufacturer. Ive been going caseless and no screen protector on my s9, and after a year, not one scratch is visible. This is proof that our glass today is tough enough.
0:53 It cut video I don't see that drop phone full clip video.
Yes but even in close up shot rock didnt hit glass but side of the phone
ok boomer
In slowmo u can see rock is moving because phone hit it.
U need to watch carefully
That's why I only buy watches with sapphire crystal.
Mineral crystal is still better shock absorber than sapphire.
Sure, but makes more sense to have Gorilla Glass for phones because phones get dropped often, and sapphire is harder, making it more brittle but with more scratch resistance.
3:10 they change out the fuel for the torch, the second one is a pro/butane torch, the first one oxyacetylene
@Moses Sebastian the oxyacetylene burns at a much higher temperature. Meaning its able to melt the glass. Hence why they used a different torch on their own product to induce a false image of being indestructable. Not much stands up against oxyacetylene.
So its a somewhat underhanded way to promote your product.
Incorrect. There is a color difference only because the "glass" is really more plastic and as it melts the fumes are burning and turning the flame orange
@@darkcornholio well spotted. So that would even be worse. Theyre comparing a piece of plastic to presumably glass.
never mind. even the screen protector can withstand the high temperature for 30s, my hands cannot
@@darkcornholio Then why wouldnt they do the sapphire one first, and would the fumes burn off fairly quickly?
Very professional video! Both educational and interesting. If I'd be able to rate it I'd give it a 5/5 and I'm not even exaggerating
"Scratches at level 6, with deeper groves at the level 7"
3:58 lmao the ball bounced like it was a ping pong ball
0:55 i was expecting rock to break i don't know why
Would it have been more realistic that way?
In the heating test the "glass" just melts which glass does not, glass explodes at high temperature, that's why in car crashes there isn't melted glass everywhere cause glass explodes and does not melt. Also, in the mohs scratch test, sapphire is a 7 - 8 in a hardness test which means it would have been scratched by that pick or material.
glass does not explode at a high temperature, and no the reason why glass cracks in a car crash instead of melting is because of the stresses the glass is placed under when the crash happens... i dont know where you got that from but its nowhere close to true
It seems apples being using low grade saphire i guess
Actually no they use real sapphire but the thing is it’s a blend between premium sapphire and premium glass so you could say it’s lower quality but they do use sapphire
Apple just uses glass, don't believe everything
1000 subscribers without subscribers might be true but they would get sued for false marketing so I think it’s just like I said with a mix of materials including sapphire
Actually no. The only sapphire on the phone is in the. Camera lens. The screen is only gorilla glass. Just like any other phone you buy. They would never spend the money making the entire screen sapphire, the price would be insane.
@Vayne Carudas Solidor You are so right 😂
sapphire is very brittle however. that's where sapphire fails in comparison to Gorilla glass. its impact resistance isn't as strong and is why although it's a lot more scratch proof. It isn't used in phones as the screen is much more prone to breaking
The rock was a level 7 but sapphire scratches at level 8. So yeah
Glass is glass it can break easily
"scratches at level 8 with deeper grooves at level 9"

_Now, in this episode of Why the heck is it in my recommendations? But I still kinda ok with it_
The ultimate ad of natural mineral...
Yep, thats exactly what i need, youtube!
in terms of using it at mobile phone or any electronic devices, i still choose glass to absorb more impact from the momentum
Sometimes you actually want the protection glass to break, since that way it takes most of the kinetic energy and makes sure the actual phone screen is less damaged. I get why this looks cool, but question whether its actually better.
3:15 Looks like they aren’t even touching it
And? I mean.....6.5mm of this stuff costs about $25 so chances are you're not toing to use it anywhere
Plus, How common is it for you to put a torch near glass?
8o8
I guess it’s not very common? :P
But they held the torch nearer on the Premium Glass than on the Sapphire
@@paulybeatz3688 i honestly think the same, but some other comment in his thread claims that the flame looks bigger/closer in the Premium Glass because of what it's made out of (sounds like BS)

@n z You're right, But... Let's be honest

Premium Glass: NOT VERY TOUGH
Saphire: EXTREMELY TOUGH
*so calming to watch*
I heard there is a new kind of glass surface etching treatments that is meant to improve its strength even more. McGill university did the research based on seashells.
Priсe test :
Premium Glass - 10 cents
Sapphire - 25 dollars.
I mean, on a 1000$ phone, why not?
Tech Warehouse that’s the equivalent of buying a $2500 windshield on a 100k car. That’s not too bad at all
Gorilla's 5-6 self price is about 25 dollars. Saphire on the other hand... I dont even know. Plus saphire is much much more harder to work with. It is pretty hard to curve it.
The question is can the phone handle it?
Will it blend?
I think sapphire tempered class will be a better option for a very hard protection, but it will cost you more money than the premium tempered glass.
2:53, I'm skeptical about this flame test. The flames of the torch are touching the"premium glass" as evacuated by the spread and discoloration of the fire and smoke coming from the clamp. However, if you compare the flame treatment for the"Sapphire," It appears that the lights are farther away or not even touching the Sapphire. The flame is not spreading over the service of the Sapphire because the flames are still blue, and if you slow down the footage, the fire keeps it's pointed shape, and you don't see the clamp smoking; the Sapphire is probably not even hot.
True but stil tho sapphire is a crystals with a really high melting point of 2040c so I dont think even at close the flames would do anything
@@allianzsaint4336 I think it Sapphire would shatter do to thermal expansion. After all sapphires is more brittle

scratches at level 6 and deeper groves at level 7
We can see in 3:29 that the flame is not touching the surface of the sapphire it is just waving behind it. While for the Glass they are literally holding it very close to it. We can see that on the glass the flame gets yellow color, because it is touching the surface.
0:55 In this drop test phone goes out of camera and than come back
They do it 2 times droping the phone that's why they cut it and start recording the second time droping phone video
3:15, Glass is Glass and Glass melts
Sapphire to breaks on hard hit , instead of scratches it's a right blow to shared a glass , sapphires are expensive depending on permeability than gorilla or regular glass . Sahoires can take blows quiet well

First at drop test at ):54 why i cant see actual hit that saffire glass recived ? They immediatly zoom out at new scene so i cant be shure if they replaced this sapphire or dropped at lower distance.
Second part burning test.
Premium glass is burning diffrently so this may be the case but isn't support handle burning as well ? On sapphire test handle didnt burn and didnt smoke so fire could be weaker.

I feel like the sapphire screen protectors ive tried all have a weird slippery feel to them and also seem to get covered in tiny scratches like it was rubbed with a very fine abrasive. But they actually never crack or get any deep scratches
Yes, that happens, the tiny scratches you see are actually in the thin oleophobic coating on top of the glass. So there's no escaping those unless you're ok with a oily mess of a screen
