I think what she is saying is that she was actually victimized by the adults who labeled her a victim. The adults in this scenario failed her. It was the adults that took control away from her.

She goes into further detail about this in another interview where she basically says that while all she was looking for was an apology, but the powers that be were looking to politicize her incident to a level that she did not want to go to… that they went against her wishes

I used to be very liberal and im still registered as a democrat but I lean more to the other side nowadays.
Her point was the reaction of the Media/Government to the incident is what made her start to look at the conservative concepts she previously denied looking at.
