@@catsdogsbaby8318 Canada already is a bubble and it’s a shit one. America is no better, and this is coming from someone who has lived in both countries for many years.
The issue is, that being isolated from the rest of the world or being uncultured only weakens your worldview and it is counterintuitive to being sympathetic to other groups of people outside of your bubble. Obviously, I am not referring to everyone being this way, but many Americans have never even been on an airplane, and many others don’t even own a passport. Also, like I said, Canadians are no better. So many provinces have such similar homogeneity to the point where most interactions with other cultures is, well to be candid strange. It’s like what Candace was saying about Philadelphia and the black population. The town I’m from was probably 99.7% white.
Anyway, this response has been too long and I doubt you would read it all but all I’m saying that ignorance doesn’t fix an issue as much as it does cover it up while everyone thinks it’s solved. Instead, everything just gets worse and people call it “progress.”

I don't understand people who say racism doesn't exist an vehemently believe it. I've lived in the south all my life. I love the south and southern people they can be the kindest most caring people you've ever met. Yet in that same breath those people will turn around and to your face say things like "this is the problem with the blacks". Peoples perception of racism has become this thing were its some bigot screaming in your face about how much they hate a group of people. When really its a whole lot more subtle then that.
Its a mindset or a belief a person has about an entire group of people. A perfect example would be when bill o'reilly went into a black restaurant and was stunned everyone there was not loud and abrasive.

Even Trump used to be celebrated in the press as someone who hired women and blacks to important positions in his company at a time when it was unusual to do that. My nephew who is Mexican and his sister who is black got full scholarships to college because my sister who was poor always made it a priority to put them in the best school district she could and emphasize education. Drugs, broken families, and bad schools keep blacks down. It is in the interest of the democratic party to keep them a poor voting block that they can manipulate.

Our Walmart is constantly running off pan handlers who walk the parking lot bumming money out of customers and they will come into the store and just sit for hours and have even been caught washing in the bathrooms and most of them are white. My retired father who loves to get with a group of other seniors and sit at the local Bojangles for hours and talk politics, etc. over a cup of coffee or a biscuit got ran off the other day by a new manager and they were buying stuff. They were told that they were sitting too long. He didn't get mad they just started going to another restaurant and buying more stuff. “Race” conversations always seem to end with more confusion than anything. So you should ask the question “who started identifying people by “race”? Because if you stop using the word “race” then racism will die. It’s tribes. Not races.
The word “race” was coined by a German 300 years ago Von Hibensbok (forgive spelling). If he would of never coined that word, then tribes would co exist today, and “race” would be unheard of in reference to human beings.

I understand where Candace is coming from when she says, it might not be about race. The truth is, how would you know/feel, as a white woman/black person/Chinese person etc? Especially if it wasn't blatant or aggressive. If it were subconscious, or someone just power-tripping. I am not familiar with the Starbucks incident so I'm not speaking on any details. But this very thing has always bothered me about big media stories. Its not always about race. Is it appropriate to say, "white man offends black man" or white woman does something to mexican, etc" The race of the people involved doesn't always matter. Also: how often do we hear in the news about black on black violence? Can't this also be racially charged, but there's an assumption that it's not? I have a black friend who commented on how black women are lazy. I was stunned, but it was somehow "acceptable" because he was also black. It would have been completely different if it were me who said this, as a white woman, especially if I said it to him.
