  • It's Ged and Kelsie 🙋🏽‍♀️ we are two Aussies enjoying the wonders of South America (with our travel companions Blaine & Elissa). Our adventures continue in the amazing Amazon Rainforest.
This is our second instalment for our time in Iquitos, Peru. Part One saw us cuddling sloths, handling anacondas and swimming in the Amazon River. Check it out here: • Amazon Tour🌴🐒 with Man...
Part Two picks up very early the next morning with a super clear sunrise and some failed attempts to film the elusive pink dolphin (they were there - we just couldn’t get the camera around quick enough).
After some brekky back at camp, it was time for yet another unique experience, Piranha fishing! Not as insane as we thought (kids were swimming around the fishing pontoon) but still fun and very relaxing with a beer in hand. Things did get a little more exciting when one of the local kids brought out a massive Tarantula (Blaine loved it, Liss not so much).
More creepy crawlies awaited us on our deep jungle hike that afternoon. We were taught more about the jungle by our guide René and got to see (and feel) more of the Amazon - centipedes, swing vines and don’t forget the heat. With the hike done and a few litres of water replaced, we were ready for a feed however this wasn’t possible because we had signed ourselves up for a trip…
Ayahuasca ceremonies require you to fast beforehand - and we were glad we did. The effects of it’s consumption hit us pretty hard. Our shaman, Alfredo, guided us spiritually through the experience (which he also joined us on) and a lovely man, known as ‘Other René’ or ‘Boat René,’ provided physical support. The experience took us all differently and overall was a positive one for our group (any landing you walk away from right?!).
On our last full day - we spent the morning in quiet reflection of the ayahuasca journey (sleeping), before visiting a local tribe who welcomed us and shared a little of their culture with us too. We said some goodbyes to new friends who were leaving the lodge in the afternoon and relaxed before retiring for an early night.
We finished our Amazon adventures with a last little hike to the boat and a river cruise back to Iquitos. We won’t be forgetting this experience any time soon!
