  • It's Ged and Kelsie 🙋🏽‍♀️ we are two Aussies enjoying the wonders of South America (with our travel companions Blaine & Elissa). After some last minute/poor planning we managed to find our way to the Amazon jungle! This trip was insanely good and so much fun - there was too much for just one vlog! Part One starts with our arrival in the bustling town of Iquitos, where we experience our first tuk tuk ride (of the trip) down to the edge of the Amazon river.
Our guide René (true jungle man with city street knowledge) ushered us onto a local boat to take us up river to Maniti Eco Lodge. The accomodation had us reliving school camps and wondering if the jungle wildlife would come calling into the cabin for a visit. We loved the lodge area and the feeling of having a small space of our own in the heart of the Amazon jungle (ahh…. so awesome).
The adventures started straight away and didn’t stop. A quick jungle hike made us realise just how easy it was to get lost in the vastness of our surrounds. Then after a quick ride down the river, we stopped at monkey island - a habitat for abandoned pet and other rescued monkeys. Just around the corner was an animal refuge which gave us the opportunity to get up close to some truly amazing creatures. On our way back to the lodge we stopped for a quick dip in the river (yes in the AMAZON RIVER! Locals do it all the time) and capped the day off with a night hike through the jungle. We thought the day hike was special but seeing the jungle come alive at night was something else…
The adventures have only just begun - keep an eye out for Part Two - coming soon.

The nature reserve gave such an interactive experience. The anaconda was epic!

I was at Maniti 2 years ago and Edwin was the head tour guide … he was so knowledgeable and kind to a solo traveller. Great memories 👍

I'm looking at this exact trip with my 11 year old son. Do you reccomend it? Is it worth all the hassle of vaccines and getting to Iquitos? Would you do anything different?
    Thanks for the upload!

We enjoyed this trip so much and once in Iquitos the tour was hassle free. Flights out from Lima where easy also. This is an adventure that you will both remember forever. If you can handle rustic accommodation, heat, bugs and rain you are gonna love this trip. Originally we were going to go to Leticia in Colombia but missed out on flights. So it was just luck we went on this tour.
The vaccine process at home (Aussie) was pretty straight forward. You do need to get the timing right for boosters and different vaccines so make sure you have enough time before you go. We also took Malaria medication which you might want to look into.
We hope this helps. Please let us know how your adventure goes.
