  • It's Ged and Kelsie 🙋🏽‍♀️ we are two Aussies enjoying the wonders of South America.
We thought the bus ride to Jardín was hectic but it was just getting us warmed up for our trip to Salento. Three ‘buses’, a few hours and some beautiful scenery got us to town with a minimal amount of stress (some stress is always healthy).
Salento is a gorgeous mountain-side town with a welcoming vibe and plenty to keep you occupied. Having a few days to spend here, we were keen to settle into our comfortable accomodation and recharge for activities. We met some wonderful travel buddies (during a small earthquake at the hostel) who joined us for a jungle hike and a coffee tour for our first full day of exploring. The natural landscape of the hike was super interesting and the coffee tour was a lot of fun, plus we got to taste some spectacular produce. The day was rounded off with many beers and the hardest game we have played - Tejo. Basically cornhole with exploding packets of gun powder.
Day two - we hiked Valle de Cocora (Cocoa Valley) with our mate Kay (legend and enjoys a breakfast beer like Ged). The valley is something special and is very much worth the hype it gets. The gigantic waxed palms stand like sentinels in a cleared grassy farmland. Unfortunately, because of this clearing the next generation of palms won’t be able to grow in that cleared area. It is a little sad but the view is spectacular. Continuing our hike into the preserved jungle around the valley gave us a much needed break from the heat. We managed to get lost a few times and get a few shocks on the river bridges (Kels had a little too much fun) but we made it to the end. With a lunch stop and a few well earned beer stops it took us about 6 hours - start to finish.
Our remaining time was spent exploring the town and eating heaps of delicious food. Luckily walking around Salento burns serious calories (it is a mountain town after all).

Not sure if it is your camera, but that Valley normally looks with a very lush green. It is the first video where the green is not that exuberant. Was it really that dry?

Hi there - It had been pretty dry! The locals were saying it had been a long time between rains. It started raining the day we left though, so it should be back to it's green glory!

Hey there! We got them from a cafe called Brunch Cafe. It was so good, we got another pack for our long bus trip to Bogota. I've linked the cafe in the description ☺️

@@Thattrainhassailed I hope you didn't take the bus from Armenia to Bogota. If you did, bless you because it is a miserable journey. Far better to fly one way for 120 mil pesos. Enjoy the rest of your journey.
