Life Lessons From An Old Fashioned Farmer on a Remote Island

- It might seem strange to some, but this farmer, Sammy Stevens, is unashamed to call a jackass both a colleague and a friend.
The older Sammy gets, the more he relies on his donkey for help. He is one of the last farmers on Saint Helena Island who stills farms using traditional methods.
His secret to a happy life is to be content with what you've got.

I have a donkey named Jennifra. She guards our cattle herd. My dog Willy and I bring her treats twice a day to thank her.

Lovely and simple man who has a best companion in his work donkey! What more can one ask for? He treats his companion with what he needs and his companion helps him with what he can't do. This is a beautiful way to have contentment in life. Working the land for what he needs, nothing more! TFS :)

For the longest time humans have taken liberty with animals, ridiculing them for their appearances or names.
This man however has understood that no animal should be bereft of respect - hence his appreciation and affection for "nelson".-
What a delightful human, Sammy is. I love his donkey xxx

What a lovely man! And he's correct about potatoes too. They taste delicious, are cheap if you buy them, and are so nutritious you can bet most of your daily nutrition just by eating potatoes.
This is what happens when you understand what's important in life and you stay in gratitude for what you have...contentedness. I do not expect to lead a happy life, I expected to lead a contented life with sprinkles of happiness and joy to look forward to, and bits of pain and trials/test to keep me evolving and growing and keep me humble. I feel that if I am happy all the time, in time I would get used to it and not have anything to look forward to. When we take away all the needs for materialism and being like everyone else in lack consciousness, never having enough, always wanting what everyone else has, always saying "I'll be happy when I get this", you'll find you have enough. What more do we need but food in our bellies, a roof over our head, and clothes on our back? I have many clothes, I have a refrigerator and cupboards filled with food, I have a strong roof over my head, and I have many things like books and my art, this means I'm rich. I may not be rich by other people's standards but I know what I need and I have more than I need. I do not live in lack consciousness for even a rich man is a poor man with money.

Hi.i am from st helena Island and I recognize the ppl in your vids.How long were you in St Helena and how many vids did you make of the locals? I live in New York city now and I am all ways on line checking out videos of my home .I hope you enjoyed our little Island.
Hi Gavin. We've actually visited St Helena on three separate occasions to tell stories of local Saints. Once at the end of 2017, and then again twice during 2018. It is SUCH a magical island, and we have fallen completely in love with the Saints people. We've made a total of 16 stories featuring local Saints - we've released 15 of these. And the last one will be released in two weeks time. We hope that you are well in NYC, and I'm sure that you're missing the gem of an island in the Atlantic. I hope that these films have brought back floods of happy memories for you :)
